He can definitely be even better with a proper CM partner. The shifts he puts is pretty much for 2 players.

One of the few who should be considered a sure starter next season. Pretty much the rest are questionable as to being guaranteed.

Should thank Mctominay for existing because no doubt he'll bare most of the brunt from the fans but holy shit he was shocking. Wouldn't be mad if he fecked off with the rest of them.

The man who put an chance on the platter for hannibal to score (who let himself get tackled), and was one of the few actually running, pressing and passing was shocking? What does that say about everyone else?

Says they are worse, but that doesn’t mean Fred should be in United starting 11, being bad but not as bad isn’t a great label

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
So a typical Fred performance then
Yes and no. He often starts matches quietly or poorly, but normally once he gets past that he'll be good for the rest of the match. This time he had another poor patch in the middle.

I did also notice that he was playing deeper in this match again than what he has been most of the time since Rangnick took over. Wonder if that was deliberate from Rangnick or whether it was just how the match went that Fred ended up dropping deeper.

It's far better to have an inconsistent player you can use until we find better, than to try to play with players that are not as good and of less use.Have you seen the state of our club? We aren't a good team any more. If the option is to get rid of one of Fred & McTominay it's by bye Scottie imo.

I don't think he's shite and have defended him a tonne on here, but I do believe that we should have a better player in the starting XI. We can't replace everybody at once, though. I'd far rather get a replacement for McT first. I don't think we're going to buy two starting midfielders this summer. An actual #6 will hopefully do a lot for the team as a whole.

I think he'd make a decent squad player in a functional team. But let's face facts, we desperately need two new first team midfielders this summer.

I understand we can't replace the majority this summer but in the engine room I think 2 top class players are now justified. I was a great believer in McT but obviously would be madness to defend him now unfortunately. I think other teams would get a lift seeing these 2 in our team sheet. I think Fred is a clown and compounded by his salary and 50million

Way too many players get away with this cop out. How about we hold everyone accountable for the utter shite they serve week in, week out? Scott was gash and he's rightly getting stick for it, so should Fred.

I expect Fred to be a top class player for us next season. In an actual team with some semblance of structure and complimentary players. If he's not I'll be very disappointed. I think he'll prove a lot here wrong.

It’s better again to have two good midfielders so let’s start hoping for that instead of the using the thinnest of defences “he isn’t as bad as others”

nothing wrong with saying fred is not good enough, he may be better than Scott, but ultimately is still not going to get us where we want to be

I really like Fred. Think he’s had a rough time because I think he was signed with the idea that Pogba was going (bit like Van de Beek) rather than as a replacement for Herrera or Matic. He’s certainly a better 8 than he is a 6. Still, we need at least 2 quality midfielders this summer, and honestly I hope they’re too good for Fred to be a regular starter.

Have a feeling he might be off in the summer tbh.

I think it’s a safe bet we’ll play some variation of a 3 man midfield, 4231, 433 etc.

All briefings seem to have us as being after 2 midfielders. We currently have McTominay, Fred and Bruno, with VdB and Garner coming back from loans. Hannibal is also breaking through.

Lets say we do get 2 midfielders - that’s a lot of numbers. We won’t sell Bruno. ETH has spoken about wanting to work with Donny. It’s likely Fred/McTominay would be pushed further down the pecking order, and Fred is more likely to be sold by the club than McTominay imo.

Doubt it - also seriously doubt we get 2 midfielders. If we manage to get De jong in, that would be it I would guess. Bruno, Frenkie, Fred, Mctominay, van de Beek and Garner or Hannibal as our midfield group (with the other going out on loan). My guess is next season is Fred's last though, but i do think ETH will like him.

No way will he be leaving. Utd won’t have a team to put out at this rate.

Fred is playing really well against South Korea here. I honestly think Ten Hag is going to turn him into a beast.

Could see a De Jong-Fred partnership working well next year, but I’m not sure there’s another potential incoming CM out there that I think I can say that about.
