Ralf said before the match that 10 of the players playing today will be here next season. I bet ten Hag was thinking "is this what i have to work with?".

Every time i look at this squad I just cant help but feel daunted at the enormity of the task even though though i'm really looking forward to our new manager.

This is one of the best things Ive seen any manager do in terms of handling journalists.

 bellend
Already love him.

The cheek on that guy saying it doesn't look good trying to push in front of his face. And calling him by his first game like they're best of pals.

De Gea: fine
Defence
Dalot - Maguire - Lindelof - Telles: all back ups
Although maybe Dalot starts if we don’t by RB - I feel he could be coached to bring alright enough for a season

Midfield
Fred: has been good enough this season
McTominay: shocking recently
Both will be back ups if we bring in the TWO CMs rumoured
Bruno: Should be coached back to being a good player

Forwards
Mejbri: youngster with bright future
Elanga: young squad player

All in all only really two starters. I also feel like some of these players can be coached to being better. Some can be stop gaps, next season will be a mixed bag. It will take at least three windows till we start seeing the squad look in anyway like a Ten Hag side.

Why have you ignored players like Varane and Sancho?

Yep, no amount of coaching is going to make that line up today into even a top 4 team no matter how good Ten Hag is. Improvement is going to mainly come from new signings.

"Don't push me, you're on television...” So nice of him to give the security guard visual evidence of competency he can use on his CV.

I think it's going to be tough for him at first. Top 4 won't be easy next year with all the competition the shitty WC also is a problem. I hope things go at least relatively fine for him so he gets more time because I have a feeling it would be wise to stick to this guy in the long run compared to all the previous hirings.

I say this because tactically he has proven he's in tune with the modern game and in the CL he proved he could do well against the biggest sides in europe. He had his team play enjoyable football and I hope he dares bring this to Manchester and don't get too pragmatic.

I think he looks the part too mate
ETH dressing well and looking the part isn't good enough. We need to see what he actually does next season.
This is his first big job/club and he has the opportunity to make a name for himself. I hope he does. The odds are stacked against him, though.

Some of you see Ten Hag as the lord and savior. I expect you to call for his head by December if he doesn't get the right players in.
Agreed.
The expectations some fans are placing on ETH are beyond ridiculous.
If he gets top 6, he's done a reasonable job.
If he gets top 4 - that'll be seriously impressive.

Ralf R got us 6th and some fans are saying he's been terrible. What if ETH gets us 6th next season?

That’s just bullshit. It only takes a mare season from one or two teams and you’re in the top 4. It’s not even that high, especially when teams are miles off the league in 4th like they have been in recent season. Top 4 should be the minimum target. Seriously impressive is such nonsense. We finished 2nd last year.

Top 6 a reasonable job? We literally just finished 6th after being pure shit for 9 months.

If ETH gets us 6th, but having us play good football to watch, he will have done well. Ralf has us playing awful.

ETH has got his work cut out for him, the Club is a complete mess from top to bottom and if we dont get off to a good start the knives will be out for him. I know hes getting well paid, least I assume he is, but he'll damn well earn it!

He’s fed up of the bullshit English press already I think already he’s had a culture shock.

the hype and moves the club and himself have made would usually lead to something special.

City win the league and the big story is ETH at Selhurst.

People need to stop with 2nd last year.

First it was a distant second with 74 points, that was top 4 target not so long ago and Spurs has just finished 4th with 71 points with half a season under Nuno. Second Liverpool had their defence missing, surely you can see with previous seasons and this season with them back Liverpool have 92 fecking points in second. Chelsea when they sacked Lampard and hired Tuchel were clearly one of the form teams in the second half of last season and the first half of this season. It was clear as day Liverpool City and Chelsea were going to be the top 3 teams at the start of this season and 4th was the only spot open.

Our 2nd spot last year was a net 4th with very lucky circumstances of having Lampard at Chelsea and Liverpool losing their defence. Not only that, it was built on comeback after comeback of unsustainable football.

He's taken the job because he knows he can wake the sleeping giant that is Man United. It's a big project but he is confident he can do it and he has the backroom staff to pull it off. Richard Arnold and co will back him 100%. As long as he has that he will set out to achieve what he has planned for the club.
The fans are important but in this instance they would do well to trust that the manager will get it right because the fans and English media will likely be on his back the moment things don't go so well and this is where they need to stay the course.

It doesn’t matter what it was built on. We finished 2nd. The fact we were pretty shite proves my point - you do not need to be that good to finish top 4. There’s only City and Liverpool who are really class and even then we managed to finish above Liverpool because they had a nightmare. Finishing 4th is extremely attainable next season and should be the bare fecking minimum anyway no matter what.

Rangnick's greatest achievement was dragging this shower to 6th

I'm pretty sure he just meant it figuratively. As in those 10 are still under contract, so will still be here in that sense.

Don't think our squad is that bad though, so long as we get 4/5 signings to go in to the first XI... Just hoping he doesn't get forced the United DNA/British core bullshit line and has to keep the likes of Maguire, Mctominay, Rashford without having a say.

Thank feck he knows this and isn’t of the “it’s a process, we shouldn’t expect top 4 next season” mentality that half the fans in this thread seem to have.
This./

Same people that get upset we don’t win anything anymore are the same ones that lowered expectations to the basement over the past few years.

You're too focused on the result. What United need is a foundation for success. It's the same reason why when Mourinho finished 2nd, and Liverpool finished 4th it did not matter to some of us. We saw that Liverpool were playing better football and so future success was more likely under Klopp.

I would be more concerned with ETH if we finished 4th, while playing the same tumescent football than if he finished 6th, but had us playing a style resembling his Ajax sides. It would be a lot easier to pinpoint where United need to improve. For example, what if we create chances for fun, but our defense is extremely leaky?

4th is a must if we're playing crap football like other previous managers because then that would be the bare minimum. If not playing style, then at least give us results. If you can't give us neither (like Mourinho) then they should be gone.

I agree with finishing 4th, that's my point and never said we can't or shouldn't. You're still not acknowledging how we finished second place though. It was on very unlikely circumstances therefore unlikely to happen again and shouldn't be used as a point. We finished 3rd the season before, were net 4th last year and only gunning for 4th this year and missed by a large margin.

People thinking Top 4 should be a given with these owners and this set of players need to get their heads out of their arses pretty quickly.

This needs tearing down and restarting, expect a similar league position with a shite start and better football/form towards the end of the season.

This. Our aim is of course top 4 but it's certainly not a minimum standard it's going to take the management time to fix this sorry club.

Spurs and Chelsea will make it a tough challenge. Unless Kane gets sold of course.

Maybe i'm just being negative after a god-awful season but i just don't see it with these 95% of these players. People talk about the second place finish last year but that was playing with a very limited system with a lot of comeback victories and a pretty decent/ok total of 74 points (Chelsea equaled that this season). I think that was their very best they could have done and their limit as players.
