That “news” has already been rubbished.
If you have any latest updates maybe you can post it up and reignite the Nunez thread. It’s basically all dead there because of that news.

CB options for next season.

some other golden nuggets.

United budget this window is between 50-75m
ETH will not have final say on transfers

i remember Ogden being decent in the Lvg days but now he’s very much a lower tier guesser.

As for Goldbridge he’s very entertaining and has a far bigger audience than pretty much any paper and publication even rivalling sky sports. He certainly has sources.

also in terms of rehashing stories he clearly does a news round up every morning , he’s not taking others stories and claiming to be his own, he has his own sources with different information and lately they have made much more sense than 90% of the crap out there.

Howson isn’t worth talking about utter gutter level stuff.

Sam is excellent but is a bit high and mighty about not being “like other channels”. But his roundups are v good.

Finally United View is also very good and worth checking out. Owen Flex and Kg entertaining and their recent trip to Amsterdam was great.

Stretford paddock and Football terrace tripe , utter tripe.
No idea how anybody could prefer united stand to Stretford Paddock.

I personally don't care if this thread does died, I'm not totally won over by this signing in terms of the fee and the talent he's shown thus far.
Well since you have already post several times here regarding this, I don’t see why it’s so hard for you to post it up there to clear things up, as you seems to be the only person here with that knowledge on the matter. But it’s up to you of course.

Josko Gvardiol of Leipzig is more suited to the English League and quite cheaper than this guy. Josko is also press resistant and more aggressive in tackling.
Very much doubt it. The persistent figure associated with him in the media is 70 million. Leipzig don’t need money. He will move eventually, of course, but they’ll price him out of the market this Summer as they apparently are doing with Nkunku.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gvardiol is eventually the best central defender in the world. He’s absolutely class.

Have you seen the interview ? Basicly what targets United should get like Rice or other ready made players , and at the same time reporting United budget would be around 75m and only Rashford has some value in selling. He also praised Liverpool for buying players like Wijnaldum and Robertson for cheap and turning them into world class, but thinks it will be a bad move by United to target players in eredivisie etc. He also said something about Ten Hags not having control over transfers, and a lot more im sure is bs.
I just finished watching the interview.

I don't agree with him about not signing players from the smaller leagues like the Dutch or Portuguese league. And I think it's important we look at the profile of player in relation to the head coach's vision before making a decision on who to buy. And the Dutch and Portuguese leagues have historically produced great players and it would be daft/ignorant beyond belief to ignore the talent in the aforementioned leagues. Maybe someone should tell Ogden that Wijnaldum was a export of the Dutch League.

It's also the same Ogden, who on his previous appearance on the United stand said that he had heard Rangnick was surprised to learn United won't scouting Nkunku. And that was taken as Gospel truth by some.

What I did agree with him about was that the Manager shouldn't have total control over transfers, and that's normal at other clubs. Ten Hag will have a say on who is signed but like Ogden mentioned, ten Hag won't be in a position to make thorough and detailed assessments on transfer targets due to his role as the head coach. Coaching and preparing the team for games is a full-time job and the recruitment should be left to others who are in a position to make thorough and detailed analysis on potential recruits.

But unlike his predecessors, ten Hag is comfortable in his role as the head coach and understands that he can't juggle coaching and preparing the team with recruitment because he can't possibly be in a position to make thorough assessment like a scout can who has been watching a said target for several years. Our previous managers did attempt to do that and were even afforded the luxury of having their own personal recruitment staff and they made a mess. Solskjaer had Simon Wells and Mike Phelan helping him with recruitment and they made a mess.

For a scouting network to be effective in the modern game, they have to be empowered. And they can only be empowered at first team level under a DoF/head coach structure. So it's the first time since Fergie retired where I believe we will be able to judge the scouting at first team level due to the above reasons. The same scouts have done a good job at youth level by scouting/identifying numerous talented players in various different age groups which is easily identifiable by anyone who watches the youth teams regularly. And the scouting at first team level which has been led by the managers and their personal recruitment staff hasn't been of the requisite level.

The Portuguese clubs leak news like a straw roof in the rain, if there were any negotiations going on for him, you'd be getting a minute to minute update.

If United are signing this guy, then I would guess Maguire is leaving the club. It only indicates Ten Hag and Murtourgh have decided to move him on sooner or later and I think he'd know it too.

The worry in my mind in signing these CBs is that we’re sticking with a gk that doesn’t know how to play the sweeper role, and never comes off his line. It means we’ll still face the same issues we have done this season.

this was the guy I said we should be looking at when we got nine-point-turn Harry Maguire...

Timber should be a relatively easy signing for us to make, so interesting that we're actively looking at alternatives.

Possible the club aren't convinced on Timber and are encouraging ETH to look at alternatives, maybe they've decided to prioritise a left footed CB where possible, maybe small chance ETH sees Timber as a right back in this team and we'll look to sign both.

He's the exact same type of defender of Lindelof and Varane. What a stupid, stupid transfer this would be.

Does Torres even play anyway similar to Lindelof or do people just say that comparison because they look strikingly similar?

Well you're right in that all three are more passive style defenders but that description encompasses a huge variety of CBs. I wouldn't say they are the exact same type of defender as there are some pretty big differences between the three.

Their physicality is a big difference, to be fair. However, Torres and Lindelof share remarkably similar characteristics. More to the point, we don't need another passive defender.

You couldn't be more wrong  Lindelof and Varane aren't even similar themselves.

Or what if ETH wants to play 3 at the back so he wants both Timber and Torres. It seems these dutch managers/coaches tend to play 3 at the back. He did play 3 at the back and 442 diamond before he joined Ajax.

He's nothing like Lindelof. He's taller, stronger and better in the air for a start. The caf is bonkers at times. Left-footed too, he'd be a good signing even though I would hope it's in addition to Timber and not instead of Timber.

Both Lindelof and Varane like to play as the last man, reading the game and mopping behind, so as this guy.....Maguire, Bailly, Jones are more aggressive front footed style....I would have expected we get someone of the latter style.

Not really tbh.

They've both contested exactly 3.27 aerials a game this season - which is funny...and a weird box-tick for the Lindelof/Pau seperated at birth truthers. Lindelof won 67.3% of his duels, Torres 65%.

Last season the gap was even bigger in Lindelof's favour. Contested more and won them at a higher rate.

Not knocking Torres, think he'd be a really good signing.

He's very similar in terms of being a backfoot reactionary defender who doesn't confront danger all that well but he has some of the physical advantages you mentioned. But he's also playing in a league where you have to deal with less crosses and physical bodies. So how well it translates to the premier league we dont know.

Importantly he developed a knack for goalscoring last season and none of our CBs can be relied on as a threat from set pieces so at least that would be an addition.

Buy a midfielder and fullback first, before splashing 50m on the Spanish Lindelöf. He should be an upgrade, but not sure this should be our priority right now, he is not that good to get him over the line now.
Delaying a transfer because there are bigger priorities is strange. It's May, do the deal that you can do.

Besides we will 100% need a CB if Bailly and Jones are leaving, which the club likely know about.

La Liga not being a physical league is a myth. It's mostly a bit slower paced than the premier league, but quite close to PL (and L1) with regards to physicality.

The player Pau Torres reminds me of is Rio actually. Something about his style. Lindelof dont have the same agility.

But Pau Torres is not as good in the air as Rio Ferdinand was. (But going of stats like this, Lindelof is.)

Stats are misleading in this case as Premier League defenders have a lot more aerial balls to deal with. I'd be shocked if Lindelof wasn't ahead, but the fact that Torres is close and scores more from set pieces says a lot.

If he comes, Lindelöf might as well pack his bags too, along with Jones, Bailly and Axel.
That'd rob us of the possibility of having the best looking central defender pair in the world. Let's not do that. We need Lindelöf - Torres.
