it's quite amazing how such a good team might end up with just one PL, they've had three 90+ point seasons

City with Haaland will be very hard to beat now as well

I almost feel sorry for the cnuts
Almost but not quite

They haven't dominated shit

The question is whether the cycle has come to an end, and they need to rejuvenate/rebuild portion of that team. Klopp is already doing it with integration of Konate, Diaz this season and I reckon he'll blood in another forward and midfielder next season. The level they have played at, with the kind of intensity in past 3-4 seasons. It's difficult to see same group of players sustaining those heights. A certain drop off is inevitable, but they won't turn to shit if that's what many are expecting

It's only what happened to us when we kept coming up against that Barcelona side in Europe. We'd have 5 CL's if it weren't for the best team ever to piss all over it.

If a tree falls down and there is no one around, does it make a sound??

Similarly, if a team lifts a trophy, but there is no-one around to see then lift it, have they really lifted a trophy??

I don't remember any parade to celebrate winning the league, so did you really win the league in 2020??
Not for me they didn't.

Depends how you look at it. Its not the most successfull team this year (Real is), but they dominate pretty much every game they play though, and was really close to a quaddruple. They are really unlucky City being just as good, if not slightly better (debatable) Im sure it will be like that for a few more seasons.

This post is brilliant

Shear genius comparison!

We can say the same about the cups right. If you win two lesser trophies, but the whole world expected four, have you actually failed as badly as not winning any trophies at all.

So therefore they haven't really won anything. They've just failed lots.

Liverpool didn't beat a top 4 opponent or score a goal in any of the finals. It was no where near close to a quadruple. It's like standing next to Margot Robbie and saying you were close to marrying her.

Depends if he can source plenty of asthma inhalers by August. Otherwise it could be a repeat of 20/21.

Come on dude. City was 0-2 down with 15 minutes left in the last game, and Pool dominated the final against Real. Them not winning against top 4 or not scoring in both cup finals has nothing do to with how close they were to the quadruple. It was really close. The live odds of them winning all 4 at the 74 minute mark was near 2.00.. If thats not close, nothing is. What would the odds have been of me marrying Margot Robbie if i stand next to here ? Terrible analogy

United lost the league on goal difference to a 94th minute goal. United also missed out on a second treble because Portsmouth managed to hang on for their lives in a FA cup semi final. Football is cruel, you can be on the cusp of something and end up with nothing in the space of seconds, everything apart from putting the ball in the back of the net is just noise.

I'm sure you've heard of Murphy's law - "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". You were always on the cusp of losing everything, not winning everything.

I expect them to react to the failure of this season the same way they did last time and completely dominate the new season when it starts. If City let them build a lead early doors then it might be very tough for anyone to catch them.

The obvious answer to the thread is "for as long as Klopp is there", but it does go a bit deeper than that I think - the fact that almost every single one of their signings succeeds with them is a sign of how incredibly well run they are - there's little chance that Klopp's successor will be as good as him but I still expect them to make an annoyingly competent choice to keep the standards high.

We might be looking for someone in the executive side of the club to leave before they start dropping to a more mortal level again, but right now they are favourites in basically every match they play and any time they drop points in the league takes an immense effort from the opposition - they might not have won the trophies but their time is far from over.

They'll always be absolute cnuts though.

Even when they were 0-2 down still they were winning the league if I am right.Even during that match you were never lead them in table.

We haven’t really dominated but we’ve been really good. Unfortunately ending what could have been a fantastic season in a disappointing way.

It does feel like something needs to happen to the squad this summer. Mane and Origi are both off and Salah will likely be gone for free in a year. Firmino might be looking elsewhere, too. At the same time Henderson’s not getting any younger and Keita has failed to make any meaningful impact (while also having just one year left on his contract).

I think people have different views of what dominating means. To a lot, being the most successful team winning the most trophies is what being dominant means. To me it's possible to have more than one dominant team in a league in the same period. Liverpool have managed more than 90 points in 3 of the last 4 seasons. That is a very dominant team. The fact that an even more dominant team were at the peak of their powers during the same period is just unlucky.

I think folks are giving too narrow a definition of dominant. There can be more than one dominant team in a league, but there's only one trophy to win. United vs Arsenal during the invincibles era, Jose's Real vs Pep's Barcelona, United vs early Jose's Chelsea. These are very good teams that you would say are dominant over everyone except perhaps the team they are directly competing against.

Klopp's Liverpool is another example of that. They have had three 90+ point finishes in the league and have reached three CL finals in the last few years. That's more than a lot of other teams have accomplished, they have just come up against a team that is even better. That doesn't take away from the fact that they have by and large been a dominant force. We had similar experiences when we unfortunately came up against Pep's Barcelona in two CL finals.

Let's go with 'dominant also-rans.'

What dominance?

One PL in 32 years?
One PL in 7 Klopp years?

They’ve been really dominant, for 20-30 years. Unbelievable that no one here can just admit the truth. There was a moment where I thought their dominance would end last year but Carlo left and went to Real Madrid. I don’t think Frank is a good enough manager to turn the tables, so I can see them being dominant for the foreseeable future.

Yeah. It all depends on how you interpret dominant, I guess. As I said, we’ve been great for the past four or five years, and the transformation Klopp has overseen has been remarkable.

But for me, we need to add a few more big trophies before I would call us dominant.

We won the xg trophy!

Nope, doesn't do it.

Very good that, tickled me however in my day it would have been Debbie Harry.
I can't those supposed United that we shouldn't laugh at Liverpool cos we're bad.
When we were dominant they celebrated every win against us as if they had won the champions league.
I was there in 92,when we lost the title,I still say the fixture pile up killed us and they absolutely loved,I couldn't stand them before that and I will always want them to lose, the Beatles were shite too

Mane leaving, Salah might only have 1 more year left, we shall see how they fare after that.

They are reaching the point of needing a rebuild, not sure they will get as lucky as they have with their first.

Its gone from a potentially fantastic season to a massively disappointing one.

Scraped 2 cup competitions and missed out on the 2 trophies they actually cared about.

As a United fan I would be happy with their season but as a United fan I would be happy to see us outplay Norwich a couple of times in a season so....

Honestly, I'm pretty impressed that they did their open top bus parade and it was still celebratory by all accounts only a few days after the disappointment of losing the CL final. Say what you want but Klopp has created a good club culture there. I would expect half our players not to show up if that happened to us at the moment.

Although the stat of scoring zero goals in three finals is poor without doubt, the fact they scraped two is by the by really. We beat Chelsea on pens and had the mother of all scraping it wins against Bayern for our last two. The Benfica one went to ET too. They're still wins in the history books. Thank feck they didn't scrape the other one, mind.

Yeah there’s been nothing close to dominance. The great sides seize the big moments and hoover up the big trophies. Like us with the treble or winning 3 leagues in a row (more than once)

This Liverpool side has had so much smoke blown up it’s arse by the media and they haven’t even retained a league. One of the most over rated sides of recent times.

Of course people won't remember the nature of the victories by and large but in an assessment of the current season its hard to say it was a rousing success or dominant in any way when the 2 trophies they did win were decided by the flip of a coin up to a point.

That is the nature of football though. RM by all reason shouldn't have been near the final of the CL. They were gifted goals, relied on opposition fluffing easy chances and insane quality from the likes of Benzema to rescue them. History says RM won the competition though.

I seem to remember RM riding their luck quite a bit in previous recent CL wins as well. Jammy goits

they've had three seasons with over 90 points in the Prem, and got to three UCL finals winning one

I mean come on, they're good
They are better than average, sure, but outstandingly good, nahh.
Point totals are irrelevant, it is about what you actually win, and where you finish that matters most.

Where was this praise for Ole when he finished second?

Liverpool are not this amazing side, their honours board over the past decade isn't that impressive.

Yeah Real are obviously the kings of grinding out trophies, but you have to get there to be in a position to win it.

Scousers must be pretty gutted that they have so relatively little to show for what would likely have been a three prem haul in most other periods.
