Some classics in the nations league, with Germany-England and Germany-Italy (twice); Germany-Hungary on top of that. No league football interrupted by these matches either, so i'm really looking forward to this round of internationals.

There is also the Italy v Argentina game to decide the best international side isnt there, (Euro's winners v Copa winners), as laughable as that now seeks, with Italy not qualifying for the World Cup.

Squads should be trickling in this week.

Good catch. Edited the OP, though I think Scotland - Ukraine will steal the show.

When are the teams meeting? The FIFA date is after the CL final but Germany already today starts preparation with some days at Marbella (including families). All clubs (even City, PSG and Chelsea are okay with it)

Teams starts preparation without them. CL finalists trickle in later.

Feck me why is there Nations League in the summer? Will the players every get any rest? I think summer 2019 was the last time players actually got a long pre-season break? Most of our squad will probably get like a 3 week rest now.

It's ridiculous and just means that teams that have huge squads (looking at you, City) will do better than the rest when the league re-starts.

4 nations league games in June, are they taking the pee?!

Really with a world cup they should've left June as completely empty bar finishing the play off games.

Play some of them end of August/start of September as usual.

As for play offs Wales big favourites to go through in euro section.

One off games make the others interesting I think. Fancy UAE to beat Australia and think they'd give Peru a good game, Costa Rica to edge out New Zealand in the other tie.

Dosen't Vincent Janssen play in Mexico now?

Can remember Martins Indi at Stoke for years, think he played a few seasons for them in championship and no idea where he is now. Strange pick given he's in his 30s now and Dutch are stacked with CBs.

AZ after a failed stint at Porto. He started under LVG during the 2014 WC. He's a calamity waiting to happen. No idea why he likes him so much.

Yes, Janssen plays in Mexico and the Mexicans don't really rate him/are kinda amazed he got a call up.

It really sucks that we have to play Ukraine. If we lose we don’t get to a WC, if we win we are hated for beating a team everyone is going to be supporting tomorrow.

I have never cared so little about an international break. Normally we have the world cup or Euros at this time of the year.

Now we got boring nations league.

Better than a summer without footy.
Now we can overanalyze our transfer targets in (glorified) friendlies

There are still some qualifiers to be played, btw.

I won't hate you for winning. If you beat Ukraine you deflect all that potential negative attention away from Wales and we can beat Scotland knowing the world is fully behind us. Cheers mate.

It is quite relaxing compared to this awful season.

Although nations league for me is just like friendlies.

Exactly.

Maybe they should have given Ukraine a by to the World Cup and let us and Wales fight it out for a spot.

It's a meaningless game but I'm eagerly awaiting fir the Italy Argentina match to start, reminds me of better times in football.

I think Argentina will nick it as Italy seemed to be all over the place in their last few outings.

Also maybe they should scrap this nations league thingy, its so utterly meaningless and matches are usually noted fests.
Not to mention the added physical burden on players increasing the risk of injury etc etc.

I'd have thought odds would be about even with whoever wins Scotland v Ukraine tonight, no?
Wales will be current Favs to go through as they only have one fixture to play...

Wales treating the Nations League with the respect it deserves by naming their B team. Nice to see our boy Dylan Levitt starting though.
They have a huge game Sunday? Would be bizarre to go strong.

What is this game between Italy and Argentina? I tried to google and can't find any tournaments before.

Also there is no Confederations cup either right?

It is the winner of the two respective area tournaments going up against each other to see just who the best team is.

It makes it a bit of a farce now, seeing as Italy haven't qualified for the World Cup mind.

Can’t see Ukraine losing tonight. Scotland will be playing against 41.3 million people.

Yeah another supercup. Feels quite weird. Have they removed confederations cup forever?
There is a batle between Fifa and Uefa to control the calendar. Fifa was trying to end the Confederation Cup for a long time. Uefa saw it as an opportunity and now is trying to get Brazil and Argentina to play in the European Nations League. In other words, Uefa want to control its own World Cup. Also there is bizarre huge tournament that Conmebol and Uefa are trying to create, with europeans and south american clubs.

On the flip side a lot of the Ukranian team have not played in 6 months and this is a pretty strong Scotland side compared to some recent editions. If you take emotion out of it Scotland have to be favourites.
My thoughts too. I think 6 of the Ukraine starting XI haven‘t played for months. They might actually get battered. You see it in pre-season when a team is a step behind in fitness.

To add on to the other answers, this is not the first time we'll have this sort of a one-off match between the two champions. This happened twice in the past: once in 1993 (Argentina vs. Denmark) and once in 1985 (France vs. Uruguay) under the name "Artemio Franchi Trophy". We can consider this a revival of sorts.

This match will happen two more times after this for the next two eventual European/South American champions.
