Such a whiny brat and yet he's the player with the highest ever combined transfer fee

And it's hilarious because almost every one of his clubs got most of their transfer fee back for him except Chelsea

And that combined fee could well go even higher soon, so clearly he has done something right.

Wasn't he Chelsea's top scorer?

Weren't inter forced to sell to balance the books originally?
Don't think Lukaku never really wanted to leave, so understandable considering his issues with Tuchel that he'd want to go back.

Inter weren't forced to sell to balance the books, they already sold Hakimi. Lukaku wanted new contract which they didn't give, after that they started losing players and Conte resigned, so Lukaku pushed for the move.

Yeah, he's good at forcing his way out and it says a lot that most of his teams are willing to let him walk. They realised he wasn't as good as they thought.

Just had a look back, seems like Inter wanted to sell other players rather than Lukaku, but due to Chelsea's interest Lukaku forced Inters hand a bit.

Chelsea will need to sign a striker if he goes, outscored Havertz in one less game in all comps.

They had already sold Hakimi (I think only one player sale was enough) , I think Lukaku said in interview or twitter that he won't leave Inter (I think this was just when Conte resigned). Once Chelsea showed interest everything changed, he asked Inzaghi to let him leave, he wanted new contract which they didn't give. So it all added up, new contract denied, key player sold to balance books, the manager he wanted to play for resigned and then club he loved made bid for him.

Maybe he felt unfinished business at Chelsea, it was poor decision to come back to PL. He made good name in Serie A, his stock was high. Could have moved to La Liga, something he wanted to explore (read in one of his interviews that he wants to play in as many leagues as possible).

This whole thing feels like a scam at this point, that Inter and Lukaku cooked up before he returned to Chelsea. We pay nearly £100m for him and literally a few months into the season he gave the infamous interview and shortly after that he was already plotting and scheming with Inter to find a way back.

We must be the biggest fecking suckers in the world if we agree to this stupid salary share 2 year loan arrangement with no purchase obligation. Fleeced twice by the same team for the same player within 12 months. On principle alone I'd tell Inter feck off, and tell Lukaku he's going to have to find a different club who can actually afford to buy him or risk rotting in U23's.
You need rid lf him one way or another because he will turn toxic in the dressing room if he doesn't get his way.

Inter weren't that bothered about losing him and I suspect all the talk of him going back is largely fed by him. The fans didn't exactly miss him.

That last bit is a good point. Maybe Simeone, like Conte, can get through to him though.
Unless either can teach him to rapidly trap a ball, lift his head up in less than half a minute, and locate a colleague, it is all going to be an expensive waste of time.

Yeah but at some point, with Lukaku fully taking liberties and taking the piss, the club has to take a stand. For me, this cannot run. Lukaku's plotting and scheming shouldn't be rewarded with everything he wants at the very costly expense of Chelsea.

And how does Chelsea profit in this situation?

Gianluca Di Marzio: “Romelu Lukaku Doing Absolutely Everything To Make Inter Return Happen, Trying To Convince Chelsea Of 2-Year Loan”

“Since last Christmas, Lukaku has been sending public and private messages to Inter,” he writes, “calling the directors and the coach, former teammates and the President, ready to leave a third of his salary in London, ready to do everything he can to make the impossible possible.”

What a clown. So glad he's not stinking up here anymore.
I'm convinced it started in the Autumn (which was when the interview was apparently).

He'd have watched our performances then especially Burnley (fantastic display despite the draw), Leicester and Juve and deep down he'd have known he wasn't capable of being a part of such team displays.

If this all is true why does Chelsea not do everything they can and try to sell him?
I'm sure Chelsea are, but there are two problems, a) Lukaku has made it clear he only wants Inter, and b) he has 4 years left on a contract that earns him 325k a week, and it seems like he would only take a pay-cut to go to Inter. The list of clubs who can afford him at those wages is very small, the list of clubs who are willing to have him is even smaller, even if Chelsea were willing to sell him for as low as 30-40m.

To sell him you need a willing buyer.

What club wants to pay money right now for a 29-year-old striker contracted four another four years in the range of 300-400k per week who has some significant limitations in his game and is fairly likely to start causing problems off the pitch and angling for a move away months after he arrives?

Edit: What WeePat said.

Chelsea can’t go for his suggestion. To loan him and pay some of his salary is a ridiculous solution.

Lukaku has to understand that this is all driven by him. If he wants to play for Inter so much, he should take whatever salary they are offering. He can’t possibly expect Chelsea to top off his wage in this situation. That is absolutely crazy.

I was always a Lukaku fan and think his numbers speak for what he can do in the right system, but he ruins his legacy every time he opens his mouth, and turns himself into more and more of a laughing stock. He should be a respected professional (he has more top flight/international goals than the majority of players on the planet)

He is being absolutely ridiculous expecting Chelsea to contribute to his wage in this situation though.

Chelsea can’t concede and should push for a two year loan with obligation to buy and absolutely no salary contribution. It’s insane that he expects it.

They were forced to sell because their debt is insane(7-800m) so it went down to either selling him or Martinez(who will also be sold this summer) to balanced the books.
There is an interview from Lukaku where he explained the situation.

If this happens it’ll be interesting to see how Lukaku does now Inter are back in the champions league - all we saw last time was him lose Inter the Europa league final by blocking a goal bound shot with his arse. It’s a chance for him to prove that his improved numbers aren’t just because the league is easier.

He was one of the reasons they ended up in the EL in the first place. Completely wank in several of the CL group games.

And went out from the group stages in the other season after finishing 4th.

He does like to shank the odd sitter. So many burned into my brain from his time here. Always followed by some absolutely world class pointing though.

He's a strange person. I actually think he's a good player if he didn't have such a chip on his shoulder, and just played to his strengths (which btw doesn't include wrestling with CBs with his back against the goal). But for some reason he's constantly trying to prove a point about his game, where the only thing he really needs to do is play on the shoulder and make the right runs into the box.

And for free with wage paid by Chelsea and Lukaku renouncing a part of the salary

Don’t think Chelsea will ever accept

The most likely thing is that he is going to remain sad at Chelsea
He'll go there, but they will have to either pay a % of salary, or agree to an obligation with a big buyout is my guess

Major doubt on that bolded part. The dude literally just talked about how he joined Chelsea instead of his "dream clubs" like Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern in December.  If any of those clubs express any interest in him, he'll change his tune quicker than it takes him to turn with the ball.

Wherever he ends up he'll be kissing the new badge at approximately 2.46 times / game until he resumes those dramatic interviews and leaking sprinting stats again.

Best Championship player in Europe.

Probably, not so far away from the truth.
It feels like he has only slightly improved his game over the last 7-8 years. Such a shame.

This guy. Soon as he doesn’t just waltz into a first team or finds it a little difficult he leaves. When he signed for Chelsea it was his dream, showing clips of him early in career at Stamford bridge drooling over the place.. one tough season and he wants out. 100mil for this guy is everything that’s wrong with football

This guy might be the biggest fraud in football. He's managed to convince several clubs that he's a world class striker but can only do it against lower league clubs or leagues where the quality is mainly around that level. What's more is he's convinced himself that he's a world class striker.

Got found out at United. Went to Inter, looked technically awful still but managed to score a load because of the low quality of the league. Chelsea saw those stats and signed him. Tuchel soon found out that he still can't cut it in a decent league and benched him and they're now looking to sell. The rumours of Barca being interested are hilarious, I would absolutely love to see this guy in the spanish league with their higher technical ability with balls bouncing off him left and right. The guy will move to Italy and never leave because that's his level and he knows it now.
