i like how Newcastle are the answer to all our issues with off-loading our problem players

it's as if they not only have loads of money but they're also blissfully unaware of how shit our players are playing

Maguire has received a lot of (justified) criticism this season and one of the biggest criticisms is his leaving of the defence to chase the ball…

But watching tonight and Lindelof is doing exactly the same thing and getting caught out too. Is he just making the same mistake ? Or is this something that we’re actively working on as a tactic?! Some kind of weak one man, disjointed press..?

When an oppo player is open in the space infront of the defense with the ball or about to get the ball, I'd want one of my CDs to close him down. But in that scenario, I also expect the DM or the closest fullback and the CD partner to cover the previous CD. Its just that in our case, with no midfield and lack of organization in defense, the second part hasn't happened.

And once it becomes apparent that the second part never happens (which would be around the tenth conceded goal from that particular action) we should've stopped doing the first bit. Yet here we are, about a year and a half after the tenth conceded goal and it still keeps happening.

Well, if you're tactically set up to do this (I don't expect any manager not wanting their CD to do this), then I'd put more blame on the second part than the first tbh except for the lack of commitment in the first part.

Why?

They have a whole market of young and hungry upcoming defenders who they will pay a fantastic wage to, why does anyone think Maguire would interest them?
Yeah, this. His stock is at an all time low, and it's going to be very difficult to shift him.

Even if he is not worth his fee and he continued to make mistakes - i never had too much of a go at him because its obvious that the team has too many faults to start blaming it on the defenders.

then you need to add this to every single player performance thread
Well, not really, because I don't see 15 other threads for "how do we sell player x?" open.

I did once open a "How do we sell a Raphael Varane?" thread after he made a mistake and a "How do we sell a David de Gea?" thread after he made a mistake but the mods shut them down in a shocking display of bias and double-standards

Ironically enough, he plays because he isn't the worst of the bunch. Sometimes, he is better than the lot we have. Given his durability, he actually might be the best CB we have at the moment. What a terrible thought.

For all his faults, he is still worth keeping around as a squad player, just not as a first team player wearing the arm band.

Who put "sign" on top of a sign? that is my only question. Surely signs are there to be read, you dont need a sign to point out theres another sign for you to read.

Reading the comments on his Instagram is fecking depressing. I'm sure having a social media presence is an important part of boosting footballer's profiles and to wrangle sponsorships etc., but the barrage of negativity some of them experience must be draining. It's pure hatred and toxicity. Even a post commemorating the Manchester Arena attack is full of nasty, personal comments. There are some utter cocks out there.

Especially not one placed in such a way that you can no longer fully see the text on the sign it's pointing to.

Ridiculous isn't it. How do they expect these players to gain confidence again if they get shredded for every single thing they do?

Videos of them training - "Show it on the pitch"
Visiting the memorial, or some charitable event - "PR stunt"
Doing anything non-football related - "Focus on your football"

It's so fecking tiresome. I don't know how these people have the energy.

Yeah, it's unreal how everything is PR.

Maguire visited Munich memorial, it's PR stunt. If he didn't, then ManUtd captain didn't even visit Munich memorial when he was in Munich, what a waste of space this guy is, what a shit captain who doesn't even respect club. It's a lose-lose situation

If people can't take a simple post, maybe they should unfollow all football or ManUtd related accounts. What's the point of following the accounts and getting angry on everything that's posted.

Also if he gets dogs abuse every time he posts then surely if he actually wanted good PR he'd post absolutely nothing.

 Perform on the pitch if you don't want to be abused for going to a memorial? Grow up.

Criticism of his performances is fine but you know it has gone way further than that now. He's basically being harassed. There was a bomb threat at his house ffs.

Exactly.

I hope we start winning again, some of ours fans might abuse them for even breathing when results are not good. "Show the results on pitch before breathing"

Genuinely think the likes of Di Maria and Tevez got less actual abuse than one of our own players. The hatred is really visceral at times.

I didn't abuse him for going to a memorial, I didn't harass him or send him a bomb threat so direct your concerns to the people who are doing that.

I do think he is a shit player and a shit captain and that going to the memorial is as obvious a pr stunt as imaginable.

I agree with that. There are posters who justified Jones getting abused in front of his daughter, it's unreal how fecked up few people thinking is. All the reasons are "he is paid well and he is always injured"
