How does he compare to Matic?

One thing I've really noticed when he's played for us over the last few weeks, we look a lot more structured when he's in the team. He makes himself available, he uses the ball well and you sense he has a clear picture in his head of everything that is going on around him.

Palhinha always stuck me as more of a destroyer in that role rather than someone that's going to get our play moving, this not the case?
Not very well in except in defense and that's comparing him to grandpa Matic who's still miles better than Palhina on the ball.

Looks like he is off to wolves for 20M + 5M in objectives and possibly two Portuguese lads to Sporting.

I hope Palhinha does well and I will miss him!

Believe his sale is motivated by the fact we have Manuel Ugarte (20) who had a breakout season in Joas position last season for us.

Great signing for Wolves I think.

Agreed, would like to see him here, especially at that price.
Well, Wolves and Portuguese signings don't exactly work in the same way as normal transfers. You never really know what the true fees are as it always seems like it's done on a favours type system to best suit what Mendes and co need at the time.

That's a very good point. Weird setup.

Either way I'm looking forward to seeing how he does, and assume this is in preparation for one of Moutinho / Neves moving on?

I think Ugarte will be better, and will move for twice that

Ugarte seems to have more to his game which is One of the reasons he became a starter as well.

I love palha though he was brilliant for us.

He was a key component to Sporting winning the title in 20/21. He is a old school hard nosed DM with a high tackle success rate and wins many 50/50 balls. He faced a few injuries this season along with a couple of suspensions (typical soft Portuguese league refs) and Manuel Ugarte gained a lot of playing time from it.

Does not have too much offense to his game and his passing is nowhere Neves passing. However he covers so much ground defensively.

I believe he will be a hit at wolves and in the EPL.

Not sure why we didn't go for him at his price, seems a great fit if we were to get Frenkie De Jong. Decent age, decent price. I don't know what we're looking for.
his name must have been left out of that 1000 name spreadsheet our scouts "scouted"

The Portuguese reports don't make this guy sound very appealing. A great tackler that covers ground but can't pass very well isn't exactly a signing that springs onto the radar of top clubs, or those aspiring to be.

he just isn't very good. Why do you think only fulham and wolves want him?
Same thing people said about the likes of Neves and Tielemans when they were on the move, to be fair. Things are rarely quite that simple.

I think he'll do well in the PL and would love him at United ahead of McTom. Proper no-nonsense DM type I've always been a fan of. But if he isn't the type that ETH wants then sure, no need.

He’s nothing special IMO. Probably why he’s ending up at Fulham.

18 million.... Perfect replacement for Matic. Does the club even know he exists? We keep messing around with De Jong but meanwhile other decent targets are being bought by other clubs. If the De Jong deal collapses we end up with our d*ck in our hand...

perfect replacement in the sense that he’s another big, heavy, slow and clumsy midfielder? sure.

And yet that ‘slow and clumsy’ midfielder was literally our only defensive mid and at times one of our best midfielders.
If all you can take away from watching Palhinha is that he’s slow and clumsy then you seriously need to consider glasses.

Except Neves and Tielemans were barely out of their teens at this point and still developing as players.

Palhinha on the other hand is 27 in a few weeks.

Sure, you know except the fact that Matic is a brilliant passer and Palhinha is limited as hell, but other than that.

Yes except that. Where did I say he was an exact copy of Matic?
I said he would be a perfect replacement because he is cheap and a decent defensive mid which we currently have zero of.

This guy is one of the players I wouldn’t mind us buying. Bought him on my fm 22 game and he’s quality… has the stats to go with it aswell :)

Ronnie must have been annoyed that we didn't sign his Sporting mate. In all seriousness, I recall a Sporting fan here rating him higher than McT, Fred and possibly Neves. Based on the highlights I've seen of him, he's unfortunately not a Ten Hag type of player.

I dont know. Lot many players play out of skin against bigger teams. Especially who play in DM positions.

He was brilliant today but even Casemiro is criticized for his ball playing skills in our team. So not sure he has that ability to do some passing from deep.
