Seriously though, why are you guys so against Kalajdzic. It looks like Nagelsmann and Brazzo intend to commit heavily to Mane as Lewandowski's successor and then only want to sign a cheap-ish backup striker to have a plan B.

I think on one hand Kalajdzic appears to have the perfect player profile for that role and you also have to wonder who else you think Bayern will sign for about €20m that's supposedly better.
I would rather have Zirkzee try his luck in the „Choupo-Moting role“ than sign Kalajdzic for €20+m

I guess the counter argument would be to ask whether it really helps Bayern to have such a young backup striker and whether it would help Zirkzee if he got EMCM's minutes.

Also considering Bayern played some 40 crosses against Villarreal it's easy for me to see how Kalajdzic could be a game changing sub for them in the games where Bayern struggles. He does seem to score quite a few comical goals just from being stupidly tall.

I expect Lewandowski to be sold and Mané to come in. The minutes available to the backup striker would increase in my opinion.
I would rather convince Gnabry to extend his contract and take a second look at Zirkzee again (after he had a good season) than spend €20m on Kala. Granted, I also don’t know a lot about the latter.

I think this video covers his strengths pretty well:

Surprisingly good technique, a willingness to drop deep and work for the team, a bunch of decent layoffs and some unethical headers. Granted, the big question mark is how well he would handle the step up from Stuttgart to a top club, but his profile looks just perfect for a squad that has a bunch of quick forwards who like to score themselves or needs the occasional not so pretty can opener against a deep defense.

I'm just curious what Bayern's strategy is, because if they want a player like that there won't be many alternatives. If they trusted Zirkzee they wouldn't need to bother with Kalajdzic's agent. There seems to be a risk that they shoot themselves in the foot by haggling over peanuts out of principle.

Thank you for the video. I stopped watching after 3:30 and am convinced that I am happy if Dortmund signs him.
His touches and goals (besides the headers) often seem more lucky than planned. But I am no scout and if you‘d be happy if Dortmund sings him then he is obviously better than I give him credit for.

I mean I'd be happy in the sense that it's easy to see how he'd fit in tactically with Adeyemi and Malen, or the potential signing for David Raum. But if he was a sure thing quality wise he wouldn't be available around €20m. And the alternative suggested in the press would be signing Haller for nearly twice the price. For all we know Bayern might be looking at exactly the same options.

We all love United
Are Barca going to sign him or not? Seems like they are using the De Jong money to try and sign Bernardo Silva instead?

Year of course. Joining a club in financial disarray, which Bayern has beaten 8:2, 4:0 and 3:0 in the last games will provide Lewandowski the right platform to win the balloon d'Or.
To be fair there is a biast towards la liga players for these individual awards.

I think if Barca can sort out there issues he's going there?. We can't or won't or don't want another 30+ striker in our squad.

I assume you mean United. No, he is not going to United. He wants a successful CL and League campaign with a chance to secure a BdO. Franky, that is not what United can currently offer.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Anyone criticising anyone looking to sign Lewa is an idiot.
I don't know but in the past it never benefitted us to buy players in the twilight of their career, RvP maybe but the rest pretty much got us nowhere. Hell even with Ronaldo back home we finished 6th, admittedly it would have probably even been worse without him, but we need to stop doing these deals that can maybe fix a single position for a short period of time. If we don't fix the overall balance of the squad, even signing Lewandowski will not gain us anything apart from having an aging player on huge wages, who is getting pissy because he has to play for a team that is clearly dysfunctional.

Let's fix the basics at this club again, let's get young and hungry players and make certain we have a coaching team and a culture at the club where players improve again. If we at this stage and our team is overall solid I don't mind us signing some aging star sometimes, because that is the situation where you can really benefit from these players for a couple of years.

If Barcelona really thinks this is the way to get Lewandowski cheaper, then they are totally mistaken.
Lewandowski going public and trying to force a move, was exactly the wrong approach.

Good, because he's a top striker and basically we cannot afford to bring In another 30+ we've already got rid of 1 and still have another, if ETH want to go forward it's pointless in having Lewondoski. Zlatan Came no UCL so frankly that argument is bollocks . He will go to a club who will give him 1 last massive payday. .and I'm glad utd can't offer him that as we would have gone in for him and then no forward thinking at all.

Just read that Lewandowski scored more goals for Bayern than they conceded with him on the pitch. 312 to 311 or something along those lines. Mental stat.

Interesting stat, apparently the only Bundesliga player in history to have this.

His national team seems to crumble defensively as soon as he leaves the pitch.

The other day Belgium scored for fun as soon as he got subbed off.

If these quotes are true then what a shite club Barca is.....yuck.
They are just acting like a big club, tapping up players. I would choose that over what United have experienced recently. Because we can't attract a world class talent at a high price, we are buying a midtable quality player at an inflated price.

I should have said, 'we have.'
Ah, gotcha. I thought you were saying that Frenkie is midtable quality! I don't disagree that our recent business has mostly been poor but that doesn't make these classless transfer tactics from Barca any less classless. Hated them as a club for years so it doesn't surprise me, mind.

Publicly whoring your club to an under contract player is not acting like a big club.

Last spring, we had Neville acted as a pimp while whoring Kane. This is a United legend and an England captain. This is but one example. Professional football just isn't pretty.

Haha. An ex player who has no official ties to the club stating which player he wants for the club and a club president being a pimp are different things. Come up with a better example if you want to malign United.

Maybe put in a cheeky bud if the deal with barca fell through and Paris wasn't in for him either?
Would be hilarious to snap him up from barca who specifically sold us de jong to get him .

Get a brain and come back with logic when you discover what it is. Whichever club you support....reveal that on here....it's a rule.

I like how PSG always gets tacked in at the end of these stories regarding high profile transfers. “Well if things don’t work out with x player going to Y club, then they would not be averse to going to PSG”

I am almost sure I saw something about FDJ “not minding” PSG as well

Wage negotiations- name United and get a new contract
Transfers- name PSG and well...just name them.

That's so weird. In the quick reply here I had typed out "I know there's no way we'd be interested, but hypothetically I wonder how he'd fit into our current squad".

I mean its Lewandowski so you don't say no. Ronaldo looked comfortable wide last season to be honest. Hot take, because it doesn't really make sense, but I think it'd work out.

Absolutely no fecking way he would sign for us or we'd pay for him though.

Unless we're benching one i don't see how it could work Unless we shift either Sancho or Bruno.

Maybe play 3 at the back and go 3 5 2?

It doesn't really make sense, especially considering that we don't even play in the Champions League but of for whatever reason he himself wanted to come, should we turn him down?

Fantastic player. Can’t see how you accommodate both Ronaldo and Lewandowski in the same squad though. Both would expect to start every game and it would be a nightmare to manage.

So we're supposedly back in the hunt... is this as well as or instead of Harry Kane? :)

I'll believe it when I see it. At this rate, I don't believe we're going to get much done at all before pre-season training starts...Erik will be asking his lawyers if there's any way out of his contract ha ha
