What would have been evolution for you?

I think evolution for something like this would have been hard to convey to be fair. I think there's a chance there's some really good QoL improvements in there. What were you hoping for?
If I knew the answer to that I wouldn't be telling you, I would be on the phone to Bethesda...

I think they should make a new engine though, draw on all those other studios under the same umbrella. Do what Capcom did and create an engine that they can use for their current and future games that actually looks good, stunning even. That RE engine has been great for them. Bethesda are supposed to be a flagship studio under XBox. Or that is what I was lead to believe anyway.

The true north.
Was hoping to see some news on Avowed, though I guess the 12 month thing means that hope was never getting fulfilled. Didn't really see anything I'll lament not playing there except Diablo 4.

Starfield looks like more of 2010s Bethesda, which was always likely but still very disappointing.

I'm not backtracking. It's exactly what I expected to see. I still think it'll be a huge hit for Xbox and get lots of critical acclaim.

I've never said it's going to be the best thing ever or push the needle though. Haven't hyped Starfield up much at all to be fair.

On that innovation front, outside of BOTW2 and maybe Elden Ring (though even that I'm not convinced), what games have pushed the needle in recent years? I'd argue that should be the biggest criticism of Sony too - really high quality games with high production values, but usually very formulaic.
Red Dead 2 - best and most detailed world and sandbox ever made.

God of War - one shot camera and some of the slickest combat seen at that stage.

The Last of Us 1/2 - Probably the best story game ever produced by a triple A studio.

Elden ring like you said. Hell even Horizon blew me away with the facial animations and dialogue. I think there’s been plenty of innovations across the board but Bethesda constantly let us down. I absolutely love Skyrim (probably my fav ever game) but it came out 11 years ago, they should be making massive strides in the years that have gone. Starfield just doesn’t represent as much progression as I hoped we’d see. You’re right about one thing though, it will still end up a bestseller regardless.

Diablo 4 will be coming to PS5/PC mate, not exclusive to Xbox. So you can cross that off too

Xbox fans dep..?

Not sure I'd agree with the innovation of Red Dead 2 or TLOU personally. They follow the same formulas as tons of games before them but execute on certain things better than anything that came before them. Not sure they brought anything new to the table. Maybe TLOU really showed the industry that a narrative driven game could sell shit loads and compete with other mediums for it's storytelling but I think that's a stretch.

GOW probably a fair one with the one shot camera. Good to add to the list. Brilliant game. Even if we did agree on those, it's a handful of games from the past 9 years..

Horizon is super polished but there's nothing innovative about it.

Not sure what I was going to say there, think a hangover from a previous life?!?

I think if a game at least pushes the boundaries of what is possible at that time then that’s innovative. Red Dead 2 was a masterpiece in so many ways even if some of its other systems were abit outdated. I didn’t even like TLOU but it’s certainly a heavily influential game. Bethesda are meant to be in that category of gaming. Innovators, some of the industry’s best and yet they never want to push the boundaries anymore. Those early fallout and scrolls games were a truly wonderous experience for gaming when they first game out, Bethesda just don’t have the drive to push it anymore and it’s a real shame.

I’ve watched all shows and the number 1 thing I really wanted was the release date to cowabunga collection and they have all let me down

I'll still check it out though...

There was a huge amount of games. No show is every going to be all great. Even if just 20-30% of stuff there is something you will play or try I think that’s good enough

Was referring to Starfield, show was a bit meh too but I'm sure if you have GP it's a lot more compelling.

Forza Motorsport immediately looks more enjoyable to play than Gran Turismo. Of course the usual crowd here could never admit it to themselves though

They have another showing on Tuesday.

More of what we've seen today, or maybe more of the future rather than the next 12 months
Nah, I wouldn't expect much from Tuesday's show. I thought they should have managed expectations for today - nevermind Tuesday!

It will be long interviews with some deeper dives into the stuff shown. Anything shown there that wasn't here is probably 'filler' gamepass indies. Although we might get to see some Halo stuff - legacy maps, co-op, maybe BR but I doubt that (as I'm sure that would have made today's cut if it was deemed ready to show).

I do hope we get more on Starfield and Redfall though. Just uninterrupted gameplay sessions with a Q&A vibe. They did say that even if the same games, it will be new content at least - so it won't just be somebody talking over the Starfield video from today.

Ugh, not thrilled that Starfield looks way more shooter than I'd expected. Was hoping it'd be more No Man's Sky with a story than Fallout: Planets.

Yeah Forza looks incredible. Huge step up. Disappointed it's next year though.

Looks much better here in 4k than it did live in muddied 1080p. @afrocentricity would be buying a new £500 racing setup for it if had GT's name plastered over it.

Wouldn't take anything from today. They cut today a bunch of clips and there wasn't actually that much action or gunplay in them. Hard to tell how much of your time will actually be in combat.

Not enough on Starfield to tell much from, but the combat alone will make it more interesting than No Man's Sky. If they can do No Man's Sky but better and with a Skyrim level world I'll be very happy. They'll need interesting planets though. Hopefully not all barren.

I think I’ll look at one in 2/3 years time by which point there should be 5/6 good games to play. I wouldn’t say theres much right now though for me personally.
Yeah there's only AoE4,Starfield and Hellblade coming for me. Hopefully it'll get better in a year or 2

But NMS is in VR, that cannot be topped unless Bethesda were to follow suit. Which they probably would have done but can't see XBox allowing it as things stand.

Did they show AoE4 today? I couldn't believe it wasn't shown today with a console version. Maybe they're struggling to make it work well with a controller.

If they did show it, I totally missed it.

Guessing somebody on PC will mod it onto VR? But yeah.. I wouldn't expect proper support until VR becomes mainstream enough that Microsoft put 3rd party VR support on Xbox.

They didn’t show it here. They announced it last year i think, that it’s coming to console.

Just realised I hadn't watched the whole thing for Starfield. The ship creation

Have they mentioned anything about online?

Never really understood this one. I found God of War's combat very average compared to proper action games like DMC and Bayonetta
It's because it's a PS exclusive. Everything gets overrated to the hilt.

Starfield could also have a fantastic story, or an amazing game-world (universe?), like those mentioned, but is being judged solely on some short clips as not being worthy because it looks kinda similar to Skyrim (one of the highest rated games of all time and not because of the engine/graphics).

Okay I take it back. The Showcase was in 1080 looking at the Starfield demo in 4K if they can meet this quality I'm not only looking forward to Stargate in this engine but more than willing to see ES6 in it as well.

Plenty of PS exclusives have been panned by critics and gamers.

God of War is mint though, and the PC version got unanimous praise too, just look at the steam reviews.

I think looking toward 2023 if Microsoft pull it out of the bag with all these games then it is definitely going to put the series x and Gamepass in a really strong position and make it almost impossible to justify not having a subscription to the service. Hopefully they do nail it. Starfield looked a little disappointing but there is still time.

AOE4 is great, the developers knocked it out of the park. no clue how they’d make it work with a controller. And you really wouldn’t want to cross play with a KB+mouse player

Bit by bit Xbox is looking like something worth getting.
I’m a PS/PC guy but gamepass is insane value and is tempting me to pick up an Xbox. It’s surely one of the best things in gaming with all the first party games being day 1 and also a ton multi plat games on there too.

I didn't say it's not good. It's just funny how each platform's games are viewed with a totally different lens. Mostly on here obviously, but it's also pretty evident everywhere. Things that aren't particularly special get hyped up and things that aren't very good overlooked. Seems to be the other way around for MS.

You said it’s overrated though. So… how? I mean, if every platform of it is universally well received then… no, they’re the wrong ones, not the guy who hasn’t played it.

like Ms flight sim, didn’t enjoy it personally, not for me, but I wouldn’t call it overrated, because most critics and people seem to love it.

I didn't say the game was overrated. I said it's no surprise an aspect of it is on here, considering

You're sort of answering your own question. GoW is so overrated that even a few people saying they didn't like it gets fans out to say b-b-but we all loved it, look at the scores!

People would understandably not do this for Flight Simulator because, like every game ever made, it's commonly accepted some people liked it and some didn't.

Name me another quality of something you'd describe as 'overrated' if it's not being unwilling to accept everybody didn't love it.
