Seeing the Halaand and Nunez announcements is very depressing.

Especially when even if we sign FDJ that's not some major improvement for us. All that is is replacing Pogba with Greenwood still to replace before we start actually improving in what we already had.

Gap only growing.

We’ve already gotten our most important signing of the summer. Gap will be closing.

Welcome to Anfield, Darwin

I really hope you will perform well in this season. Darwin said very well in his opening clip

“If I score goals or I don’t score goals, I always want to give maximum effort.”

He will fulfill our lack of clinical finishing and he has a lot of services from Trent, Robbo and Thiago. I can’t wait to see next-season.

Haaland is more of a sure thing. Núñez might need time to adapt if he even does.

10 years of Woody and poor decisions have left us where we are.

I’m sure that both will perform well (over 15 goals in EPL) in this season, if they can adapt English football and don’t have hard injuries.

Benfica splashed huge sums on Nunez when he played for Almeria in second division in Spain.

Basically he has had 1 great season. Still unproved. Could go either way. I predict another Morata.

Should've retired Divock's number out of respect for the great man. Big shoes to fill.

A risky signing at that price. Comes across to me like one of those "fake" pressers who closes people down but not intelligently.

Eh, Frenkie De Jong coming in as an enormous improvement. It'd probably be the single biggest improvement any club makes this window, not counting getting an actual coach like ETH in instead of Ole and then an interim with MLS coaches assisting. FDJ over Pogba (a demotivated Pogba who has long declined and is always injured and isn't a natural to play deep and doesn't have press resistant qualities which meant he always made mistakes that got punished) is going to be like night and day. Frenkie is Modrić-esque in his ability to keep hold of the ball under pressure, with his on the ball dribbling/movement and reliable passing.

Darwin isn't an improvement on Mane for Liverpool, though they will be different now and who knows how he progresses. Haaland obviously a big improvement for City though. I'm more concerned with us though. Let's revisit in a couple of years and see where we stand, for now we aren't competing with them but De Jong in would hugely accelerate the process to make that step up.

Sure but the player gap is massive and gotten bigger in last 6 months.
It’s big, sure, but I don’t think it’s as big as this season suggests. I think a top coach like Ten Hag with a full pre-season will improve our players a lot and we’ll start looking like a proper team again next season, especially if we can get in 3+ solid players during the summer, which I fully expect us to do.

Liverpool are losing Mane don’t forget, and I don’t really think there’s much room for them to improve anyway given how annoyingly good they’ve been for the last 4 years.

Has he got a facelift or has he always looked extremely liverpudlian?

Unfortunately everyone walks straight into Klopps team and succeeds
Yes and no.

Fabinho, Robertson, Ox, Thiago all had to wait a while before getting regular starts. There is, at times, a period of intense acclimatisation. There are obvious quick starters - most recently Jota and Diaz - but patience is offered when required.

Your prescription has to be fine-tuned. You can't just breath onto the field like that.

Does this signing and the subsequent fanfare/expectations fall in line with the Liverpool boom-bust cycle?

Hmmmm ... 3 meaningful (PL/CL) trophies in 17 years and such arrogance? The graph may have moved a bit but I'm sure it has maintained a similar shape in 14 of the last 17 years.

Arrogance? Suggesting Liverpool aren’t engaged in an in-season boom-bust cycle is arrogant? Okay.

Tough crowd.

FDJ is the perfect player for ETH's system though, he already knows the tactics of ETH so will be an easier and faster transition. Frenkie is a miles better player for ETH than Pogba would be. This in itself makes the team an improvement from last season if FDJ does actually join.

You view the same view about FDJ as me. United needs a press-resistant midfielder who can bring the ball forward from zone5 and De Jong is one of the best in the world at this department plus he knows ETH’s tactics especially team movements. I’m pretty sure he will upgrade United.

Most depressing is Nunez' salary at 140K/week compared to Sancho' 350K/week.

He'll still be playing next to shit Midfield partners.

And then as I said Greenwood also a major loss in a footballing sense. Approx 80 mil in value gone up in smoke than needs to be replaced.

I think your missing the point anyway. Wether he is better is irrelevant. The point is we are only swapping one big asset out for another.

The key think is the second Midfielder that'll be needed beside FDJ. Without that it'll be majorly flawed

He looks so sexy with a real rather than a photoshopped Liverpool shirt on.

"Alisson, with a wonder save who quickly rolls it out to Van Djik, he moves it on to Thiago and in a blink of an eye Nunez is on goal... Nunnnnneezzzzzzz!!"

Yes.
Made 2 bets with my Liverpool supporting mate this evening.
He thinks Nunez will score 18+ goals in the PL this season.
He also thinks Nunez will outscore Haaland in the PL this season.

Hopefully I'll be well stacked with beer this time next year.

why is it depressing? It’s not your money. Sancho is/was a much more accomplished player than Nunez

If he comes in***
I was more responding to the guy saying that FdJ isn't much of an improvement on Pogba while the others pull away which just isn't true if we actually sign him

I feel like you're missing the point here actually! It's not swapping 1 big asset for another. It's getting rid of a long underperforming, injury prone and poorly fitting player for a player that fits what we need and the new manager perfectly (while being younger, and less injury prone). A world class player if used correctly makes a hell of a difference to a team. Finding a partner for FdJ is a lot simpler than finding a way to make Pogba work as part of the deeper 2 midfielders. Hell, there's a much better chance at just getting Fred or Mctominay to work with a partner like Frenkie de Jong than there was with Pogba, who quite simply was not naturally a deep playmaker (in any respect). If it happens, combined with the coaching, I think you'll find our midfield is a entirely transformed.

Shocking that they've paid so much for the second best CF in the Portuguese league.

Personally I was hugely dismayed when Chelsea were linked to him - very glad we've dodged that bullet (granted in large part because we've ducked directly into the Lukaku bullet, but still).

Been reading about him. Came from abject poverty, similar to Antonio Valencia. Has one brother and they both dreamed of football but his brother (older) went to work full time to support the family allowing Darwin to chase his dreams. He's already overcome an ACL injury which reoccurred and needed surgery, that was prior to moving to Europe. He's a determined fighter. I think he'll do really well for them.
