Fabinho's forehead
And losing them
Imagine getting done by Vinicius Jr. in UCL final. Whatever trio that replace Mane and Salah would do very well just to replicate 50% of what they achieved. It will only go downhill from here based on logic but because we have only heard about this kid, Klopp is seen a genius despite of overspending. Darwin is famously known for the theory of evolution but in this case it's all about devolution. It's time*** to say goodbye.

Diaz, Salah, Nunez, Jota, Firminio, and the kid Carvalho are winning us the league this year. Nunez will score goals and have a sudden impact on the team. I think Haaland is going to take a while to settle at City considering Pep isn’t as good as Klopp in having players making immediate impacts and winning three leagues in a row is a tough call so you can just sense Liverpool getting number 20.
Mane was the key that held it together. It'll all fall apart without him.

Yeah! Just like Nunez lit up Benfica with 14 goals (198 minutes/goal) in 44 games in his first season there (21 years old) and Haaland (19 years old) just scored a goal every 80 minutes his first season for Dortmund. Nunez has scored 2 goals in 10 games (266 minutes/goal) for Uruguay while Haaland has scored 20 goals in 21 games (83 minutes/goal) for Norway. Haaland is definitely the one of the two that needs time to adapt. Everything indicates that....

That said; When the Haaland ship had sailed, Nunez was on top of my striker list for us to sign.

Not really Mane only picked up form second part of the season, he has had two consistent seasons where Salah has been the better player and in previous years it would be Firmino who would be as what held everything together.

26 million agent fee? 17 million commission? Jesus feckin christ I'm really starting to hate this sport.
I wonder if there'll ever come a point where the camel's back breaks. Will the money in football just continue to escalate until clubs are spending a billion pounds on one player, or will something happen that staunches or even reverts this trend? Because on one hand, there's no particular sign of it stopping. On the other, I have to imagine that there'll come a point where things have just gone too far. Technically there should be a limit to how much money is coming into the clubs because there are only so many potential fans and so much you can charge people for tickets, TV packages and whatnot; but with state-owned clubs that have literally limitless funds, who knows?

‘But Klopp doesn’t spend money unlike Pep.’

‘But Coutinho money means Benfica owe us £10m.’

‘With Jota, Nunez, and Diaz, if each of them score 50 goals this season then we won’t miss Salah & Mane so we’ll be ok.’

In any case, £100m is a hell of a lot for a young player with one impressive season under his belt. It's undeniably a gamble, because while he could turn out to be the real deal, there's very much a chance that he won't. He'll essentially have to be consistently world class in order for it to have been worthwhile. That's a big ask for a player of his age whose single breakthrough season was in Portugal, and not exactly for one of the minnows there. Looking at the list of Primeira Liga top scorers throughout the years, they don't exactly have a track record of going on to be world class players at big clubs. In fact, I can't find so much as a single example of that since the days of Eusebio. Doesn't mean Nunez can't do it, but the fact remains that a single breakthrough season in Portugal means very, very little in the grand scheme of things. You can tell he's good when you watch him play, but £100m good? Eeeeh...

In my book, he hasn't impressed any more than Bruno had when we signed him; but Nunez costs 50% more, provided that he meets the exceedingly easy addon requirements. For a club without limitless funds, that's a serious gamble. With Mané gone and Salah likely sidling in the same direction, they really need Nunez to live up to that fee or they're in trouble. Considering how rarely newly-arrived strikers succeed in the PL, that's quite a risk to take. It feels like at least 80% of strikers who come to England just don't really make it. In fact, much of Liverpool's recent success can be attributed precisely to the fact that they got their hands on a couple of the exceptions to that while all the other big clubs have struggled up front. English clubs have an incredibly bad track record when it comes to expensive strikers, and Liverpool had great fortune getting mid-shelf transfers to shine instead. Odd to see them deviate from that now.

This is a crazy take. There is nothing in either player's history to suggest Darwin will settle faster than Haaland.

We've been guilty of paying a lot in agent fees. Alisson's transfer involved a lot of that as well.

the reason why it’s annoying when people quote the total fee including add-ons regarding a player is because it ignores how those add-ons are structured and when they would be paid. By the time all of Nunez add-on fees are paid a season or two will have gone by which means players will leave and revenue will be brought in which doesn’t make it as *big* of a deal as it currently is. Saying that, even the 64m is a hefty outlay for Liverpool considering it’s an unestablished player.

But there is in each coaches history. Players seem to fly under Klopp( Diaz, Jota) whereas players under Pep don’t(Grealish).

Then every transfer should be discussed on how much upfront fee was paid in first year. By the time agreed installments are paid, revenue would have grown or player might leave too.

By most reports, addons are paid if Nunez plays 60 games, which will happen by mid of next year.

Lukaku was signed by Inter for around 70 million paid over 5 years, doubt anyone would be using anything less than 70 million as transfer fee.

Like how Thiago took one year to find his best form at Liverpool? Or how Keita and Ox are still trying to find their best form after so many years.

Every manage has transfers where player hits the ground running, took some time or outright flops. Even Robertson took half a season before he started games.

I think that is especially true. Maybe only difference is, Nunez has a great CL campaign agains top teams in Europe, while Bruno never really had it. While Nunez is abit younger too (young player always cost higher)

But for us, its absolutely no go for that amount of money.

That would be fair if people are going to be disingenuous about it.

It is like Dele with us. People saying we spent 40m on him when we haven’t paid anything yet.

Up front fees don't say much. The money will be paid eventually. Are you remembering to factor in those instalments and other add ons on next season's spend? No one ever does that except the actual accountants at the clubs.
So might as well just factor in the whole deal from the outset.

We paid 85m for Darwin and 41m for Jota. You paid 40m for Dele fecking Alli.

Money isn’t always paid though, is it? So your argument is nonsense.

Only if they are utterly failed signings.
In some cases. In some scenarios a player may have a golden boot clause or a ballon d’or clause that they may not reach but still wouldn’t class them as a ‘failed’ signings. There are so many variables.

Fine those clauses we can take out.

As a general rule, it's just fan vanity that makes people choose one over the other. We may only pay 60m now but that doesn't mean we have an extra 25m to spend. That money will still need to be spent.

And if you structure all your signings like this you're paying off previous signings every summer anyway.

Dele is different, Nunez is very straight forward. Only last 8.5 million is team bonuses. Rest all are just apperance which won't take much to trigger it.

I think the transfer fee is mental for Nunez but his contract might not be. I think there is a bigger chance his contract ends up a steal than Haalands. Haaland is being payed around the same as Lewandowski (a bit more actually) so he needs to score around 35-45 goals in all competitions just to live up to the money. Nunez at 140k could score 20-25 goals in all competitions and be a solid deal. Nunez is a young player and with Klopp maybe he can score around 30-35 and then his contract should be on of the best around especially with it being 6 years long. I think that for Haalands deal to be a steal he needs to hit around 50+ in all competitions and basically be the best player in the world. However none of this applies to City with their money anyway so who cares?

The problem we got as United fan is that everything Klopp touches turns into Gold. Expect 30+ goals from Nunez next year. We will just have to suck it and eat humble pie!

Right. That’s why they’ve won as many PL titles as Leicester since he took the job.

He’s a great manager, and they’ve got an excellent setup at Liverpool at the moment, but he’s not God. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve peaked, and it’s downhill from here.

There's nothing in Darwin's history that suggests he will settle, period.
Oh I fully agree.

Seems pretty selective. Plenty of flops for both - wouldn't draw too many conclusions either way, and certainly wouldn't weight that more highly than a player's individual history.

Might be my eluding memory, but i can think of several players, (Thiago, Konate, Keita), that used long time to bed in.
Also seems like Klopp is more patient with players having to adapt to his playstyle than Guardiola?

That's far too small a sample size to draw any conclusions from.

You should be looking at commissions taken by government contractors as well then, you'll be amazed.

Dunno why people have a concern about the money in the game. It's not your money, so why bother? As long as the quality of the football increases(and it seems to constantly do that), why do you even care?

Football has always been a money game, even in the 70's or 80's. These days you have access to this kind of information, back then you didn't.

I mean the fans do generate much of the clubs revenue so it is our money. Isn’t it?
