I say we hire Van Gaal to be director of football once the world cup is over then sack him on his first day

As of Timber needed to be told that he’d risk his place if he’s not playing.

Sure but how do Nathan Ake and Steven Bergwijn get in when they don’t play regularly for their clubs? Double standards by LVG.
Double standards, yes. However with good reasoning. Wijnaldum, with a far bigger reputation was dropped from the squad because he does not play at his club.

Bergwijn and Ake have different competition on their position. Van Gaal much prefers a left footed LCV and therefore Ake is in the running and gets a chance. Bergwijn is linking up very well with Memphis and other attacking options are also not international stars. Timber however is competing against VVD, De Vrij and De Ligt, who are all world class. Timber is the least experienced of those. Of course he's likely to lose out on the WC squad if he makes a poor transfer. Donny has lost his place in the NT since he moved to United. When he was still at Ajax he was competing for a starting 11 spot, which has now been taken by Klaassen, who replaced him at Ajax.

LvG advising this has nothing to do with United bitterness. Just with common sense.

There is some reasoning to his advice but there’s absolutely no doubt he’s still carrying a grudge from his time here. He’s slagged us off repeatedly and told Ten Haag not to come. Bitter old man needs to let it go….

He selects players based on their performance and that is the only criteria. Playing regularly for your club helps.

You need to let go of your bias towards LvG, he has done nothing to MU, but you treated him like shiit.

Fabinho's forehead
To be fair here's Timber's competitors : Captain Maguire, Varane, Lindelof, Phil Jones
He only has a significant advantage over Phil Jones.

strikes me as strange that a national coach these days has that much influence on where a player moves. Usually their agents/management team have that kind influence. This is a massive move for him. The way it could be resolved is, if there is, some of agreement he comes in Jan after world cup. These things can change quickly though, a poor start to the season, poor world cup, an injury and that lucrative offer can go away very quickly. Same for Van Gaal, I believe his contract expires at end of this year, a poor showing in world cup and he's gone I'd imagine. A good performance and at his age he may still go anyway, so that's a lot of input from a man who most likely will be out of the picture in 6 months.

Van Gaal is leaving after the WC and Koeman is replacing him, that's already been agreed.

Other than that, Van Gaal is just giving his opinion (as a good Dutchman will never refrain from doing :D ); Timber is free to do as he chooses. And if Ten Hag can promise him game time (insofar as he can promise that; nothing is guaranteed, of course), then Van Gaal's argument disappears.

you'd think and hope so, Van Gaal seems petty enough to hold grudges against those who seemingly ignore his advice though. It's all hearsay now though, we don't know whats been said behind closed doors, we are merely speculating at this point. I'd like to see the lad sign for us, he's in a strong negotiation position though for when we do/have approached him. He can basically say I need to be given starts otherwise I lose my world cup spot. . It's at that point ETH determines how much he wants him now or possibly go back in Jan.If we do sign him now, you'd imagine he would at least start first few league games and hold his position if his plays well

Weird I didn't think Van Gaal could annoy me any more than he did when managing us and serving up the worst football I have ever seen from the team yet he is making a good go of it now he is the Dutch manager
