Arnold is apparently more willing to delegate footballing matters to actual football people. I suppose that’s progress but I’m not hopeful knowing Murtaugh and Fletcher are leading the permanent manager search.
RR was clearly brought in to have his saying on this.

Bring in Ten Hag and shoring up the structure with an additional deputy dof post.

Whether he's been involved in any of this directly or not, it reflects well on our new CEO.

Good PR. But it’s needed. Whether he was for ETH. It would be wise to make him the key decision maker for it.

Can we just wait before we start wanking over him?

Indeed.

I remember the summer when we hired LVG and signed about 6 players and everyone was wanking themselves silly over Woodward, with those Oprah “you get signed and you get signed” memes everywhere. The man ended up being a catastrophic failure.

Let’s judge Arnold after some years in the job.

He has basically just done what the majority of fans have asked for... we were all pining for Rangnick and Ten Hag. Football Clubs should always be one step ahead of the average fan.

Not saying these decisions are wrong, but I'm reserving any praise. The jury is very much still out and will be for the next couple years at least.

Maybe but our success and performances will determine whether he's doing a good job not hiring a manager or making changes that are popular with fans. Hiring Jose and signing Pogba + Zlatan was a much lauded move.

Lets be honest here guys. Unless we get excited at the anticipation of something good at United then we probably won't ever get to be excited.

I like him for now. Not because he has done anything great but just simply he hasn't been eager to get exposure and blow hot air about the wonderful things Manchester United can do. The less he's in the spotlight and get on with his job the better it is.

Precisely, it’s still a long way still to go and we’ve been burned so often in the past.

Murtaugh’s watch:
- Solskjær sacked
- Rangnik interim+consultant
- Ten Hag chosen

- Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo in
- Elanga in from academies
- Daniel James out

- many loan deals

To be honest, in total I don’t think this looks too bad so far.

There’s a hardcore element in the Caf who want to slate everything about the club. I do wonder why they bother watching United as it seems detrimental to their mental health

The guy has been here since Moyes and it was all but confirmed by the club he just got a job title change when he was appointed as DoF.

Murtough also oversaw the failure to bring in one decent midfielder over two transfer windows, a weakness that every United fan could have pointed out.

This is just another example of bigging up someone for average decisions which most fans would have made.

Don't think he had too much to do with the summer signings. Woodward wanted Ronaldo, and also contacted agents regarding Varane according to The Athletic and obviously, Solskjaer was desperate for Sancho. IMO Murtough can take credit for Rangnick and now Ten Hag.

Credit where its due. Now ensure ETH gets the right support and setup, clear out the stinking dressing room and start building up

Hopefully. Looks pretty good on paper to me. But honestly I think it’s too early to say if it’s good in action or not. If a manager must be judged over a couple of season, a FD must be judged over a couple of managers, at the minimum.

I guess it’s hard to tell for any of us really who wanted which player how much. What we know, is that Murtaugh, Solskjær, Woodgate all would be involved with and probably at least ok with the summer signings. I think it came out that Joel Glazer was involved in the Ronaldo decision, so I agree it smacks of Woodward. But with Woodward going out and Murtaugh supposed to take charge of those kind of assesments, I would be shocked if he wasn’t central in the decisions to approach Varane and accept the outlay on Sancho. But what do I know really. What we know is that Murtaugh is a part of that window, but not the windows before, due to his role at the club.

You misunderstand. I’m not bigging him up, I’m just summarizing what little we know of his actions as a Football Director at United. Wether it is a good job or not, is far to early to say. We lack most of the context.

Before march 21, however, we know his job description and task was very different, it has been informed widely about, shouldn’t be too hard to google. He has been restructuring the Academy, starting up the Women’s team, restructuring the set up around internal recruitment/bringing players from youth to first team, and restructuring the recruitment systems, and developing a data analysing unit, and been involved in deciding the structure of how to run the club, including the role he has now been put into. There is nothing pointing towards him having a say on transfers or managerial choices before last summer eindow.

He might not be much but he seems far less delusional than Woodward and Woodward left him a copy book of what NOT to do as a chief executive.

For me he's doing all the right things. Time will tell but he seems to be trying his best not to make the same mistakes as his predecessor.

I am by no means ready to start Arnold FC but self-awareness and ability to ask for help and apply these lessons goes a long way in management.

And at Manchester United, we have barely seen any of the above for the past 10 years. People might say it could only get better after Woody but in my experience things could always be worse.

Let's hope he delivers.

So surprised by some of the comments here. Doing all the right things? By all accounts he hasn't actually done much so far that points in that direction. But early doors I hope he delivers

PRichard Arnold
Don’t be ridiculous.

The notion that the Glazers have ever, or would ever use excessive PR to keep fans docile is a conspiracy theory.

Arnold is just one of the lads - down the pub, dressed like a chav, getting the pints in with the plebs, and at the same time, he’s also an elite footballing business mind mixing it up with Gill (who we all like).

He’s also a family man.

He’s an Everyman.

He’s nothing like fat cats Woodward or the Glazers - he’s just like a Utd fan.

I'm not sure how any one can't look at the changes behind the scenes made since he came in, even with the Hag appointment alone, that he hasn't done much.

He over seen a huge overhaul.

Ultimately he be judged on the football successes but wee not see that part play out over the next 5 years.

Already looks fed up with the job.

I'm a still picture lip reader and what it looks like he's saying there is: "I'm already fed up with this shite."
David Gill is saying: "Yes."
close, but he actually said “is redcafe always full of these negative nancies posting shite”

Gill replied sack fergie sell giggs lolz

The man is clearly a genius.

The foresight to meet with David Gill (and be photographed doing so) is unprecedented, and in my opinion shows that Arnold deserves a raise.

Am I doing this right?
It's PR spin, he knew he'd get photographed to appease the fans so he set up the meet. Even wore a green and gold scarf on the way.
