Figured I'd start a thread. It's a big change losing Mane and bringing in a more unproven player like Nunez. I suspect Klopp will change to a 4-2-3-1 and we'll see Carvalho play a fair bit as a number 10 ahead of Thiago and Fabinho in midfield. This might also be the season where Henderson's age catches up with him. I don't think he'll have over 50 appearances in him this season (but nothing a little puff on the magic inhaler can't fix).

Ins (so far but I think we're done)
- Darwin Nunez
- Fabio Carvalho
- Calvin Ramsay

Outs (so far)
- Sadio Mane (not confirmed but he's basically a Bayern player).
- Divock Origi
- Sheyi Ojo
- Ben Woodburn
- Loris Karius (yes he was still a Liverpool player)
- Marko Grujic (he should've been sold years ago).

I've seen us linked to Wijnaldum on loan which wouldn't be the worst idea. I think we could do with another midfielder.

I expect Minamino to leave and Joe Gomez has been linked to Aston Villa but I doubt we'll let him go. He was a useful player to have in the squad last season. Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked to United (the answer to all of your problems) but I don't think he'll go. Klopp likes having him around to start in a few games here and there.

I don't know if we can win the league. City signing Haaland is intimidating but they're going through some pretty big squad changes themselves (Sterling, Silva and Jesus linked with moves away). I'd like to think we'll be up there but a lot depends on how we adjust to not having Mane. He's been a Liverpool player for most of Klopp's reign so it's a big change. Salah and Firmino might well play their last seasons for Liverpool as well.

I think we're the only side capable of challenging City as things stand, but maybe they run away with it and it's done by Christmas.

I am saying you might struggle for top 4. Chelsea and Spurs look strong if they get some of the players that have been suggested.

Then if we get our act together and Mane is a big loss then maybe we can end up higher than you lot.

Our lack of signings reduce the optimism though.

People have said this every season for the last 5 years and the only time it happened was when their entire backline got injured. They’ll hit 90 points again.

Mane has been fantastic for them and him and Salah been key to them playing so well in attack.

They are much weaker up front now.

Im not so sure, Diaz was brought in specifically for this reason, Mane out, Diaz in, Liverpool were covering their bases.

Spurs have brought in a 33 y/o squad player in Perisic, a backup GK in Forster, and Bissouma, who I do rate but doesn't turn them into title contenders. And Chelsea have done not much of anything in the window yet.

Nunez will bring better output than Mane as a single player scoring more goals if he live upto his reputation but general play for liverpool will get regress in my opinion. Mane s tireless dogged attitude won't be matched by Nunez or Diaz.

They will score more goals against minnows but will struggle to find form against structured defense.

With all their key men a year older or leaving in Manes case I don’t see them winning the league, I can’t see anyone touching city this season after the arrival of Haaland. Nunez is a bit of a roll of the dice. I can see Liverpool winning a domestic cup, finishing top 4 and being quite happy with their season.

Mane's loss would have been devastating if you didnt have Klopp as a manager ... I think you will have a top-4 spot plus one good cup run every season while Klopp is your manager. City just need to sign a first choice LB and backup DM, and they will continue rocking the league.

Liverpool will have a good season. I can’t see them beating City to the title. Mane is a big loss. They’ve signed well but I think they’ll struggle against the bigger teams. Last season they only managed one win all season against a top five side. A 2-0 win vs Arsenal. They didn’t beat anyone in the top four all season. Diaz and Nunez are good signings but I don’t think they’ll improve their struggles against their immediate rivals. If anything they’ll be worse.

Salah, Firmino, Thiago, Matip and VVD are all the wrong side of 30. Sports science and asthma medications considered, they’ll not feel that so much this season, but a major overhaul of the side is on the horizon. TBF they have been very proactive In dealing with that so far.

And that’s the thing about Klopp. I don’t think the players coming in so far are as good as the ones leaving, but he’s a master at creating teams that are greater than the sum of their parts.

I expect them to finish second, but a couple of key injuries and/or a loss of form from Salah and I could see them finish 3rd or even 4th. That said, anything less than 2nd would be a surprise and less than 3rd would be a shock. They could play on autopilot this season and finish top four. And I don’t think any Klopp team plays on autopilot.

The key, as with every other season Klopp has been there, is the form and fitness of VVD. Without him, their high octane football unravels.

We’ll finish a minimum of 10 points behind and probably closer to 15 or 20. The peak of our aspirations is top four. They’ll be competing for the title again, even if I think they’ll fall short.

What on earth makes you think this? They still came top 4 that mad season we had no fans and they were down to Kenny Daglish and someone's mate's brother in defence!

I still think you make top 4,but it is closer to 1/4 you miss it than 1/7 that bookies roughly rate you.

I think it is closer at the top now than previous years recently. Lots of good managers.

One serious injury to Salah or Van dijk could destroy pools season. I think City could win it without Haaland.

They got into top 4 because of other teams craping themselves towards the end of that season. Even Klopp had thrown in the towel.

As for your first statement there is no valid reason we shouldn’t be in the mix at the very top. Your second statement is a long shot considering what happened last season, there has to be some kind of carryover. You third statement might be wrong since optimistically it look like your getting Eriksen .

You dont go from last day of the PL season, CL final and spend £100m on transfers and be happy with top 4 and domestic trophy.

They will want to win the league.

And then we won 8 and drew 2 of our last to 10. 3rd place at our absolute worst is a decent bottom level.

They had a strong end, others had a crap end, it's how seasons work.

I'd love them to drop off a cliff next year. Them losing trophies almost feels like a trophy to us in our current state. But it takes pure wishfulness to think they're going away soon.

Course they’ll want to, all the big clubs want to win the league but I’ve a bit of a feeling their season will be a bit of a let down for them.

Think they will regret not enforcing the midfield, the main reason they had such a good tail end to the season is that Spurs forced them to go in for Diaz early otherwise they would have waited until the summer to go and grab him.

Their midfield is ageing and/or injury prone plus they don't have a decent Fabinho replacement if he goes out for a long time.

Ageing ( Milner /Henderson)
injury prone (Thiago/Fabinho/Keita)
Not good enough (Ox)
Inexperienced (Elliot/ Carvalho)

Reports are saying they chose not to invest because they didn't feel that the right player was out there and It's a big gamble IMO.

Fabinho's less injury prone than Thiago & Keita but I do agree we're a bit light in midfield. I think that's why we'll go to 4-2-3-1 and focus on trying to play Carvalho/Elliott as a number 10.

Yeah he's less injury prone than the others but because he's by far the best in his role he gets rotated less often.

I also think you are moving towards a 4-2-3-1 (Diaz, Nunez and Carvalho signings) so it definitely will ease some of the burden on him but it's a lot of responsibility to put on Elliot/Carvalho so early on.

I just think that you need another body in there (I thought Tielemans was destined to end up there after Wijnaldum left) although the 5 subs rule may mean you can rotate them more.

Seems like we've just agreed a deal to sell Minamino for 15.5m. This makes me sad for some reason, scored some cracking goals for us.

I’d agree with this, Mane brings a big fear factor which is more important than the sometimes lack of goals. Him and Salah really did terrorise defences and I’m not so sure Diaz will do that as much. Liverpool have bought well recently and Diaz came in and did really well but is he Mane level of threat, I’m not so sure.

Still think they are locked in for 2nd but if Salah leaves next year that’s when you’ll see a drop off and them fighting for top 4
again with the rest outside City.

Might be totally wrong but the Nunez signing smacks of trying to match Haarland to City to me, I don’t see him complimenting the style they are playing now so if they change that which has been super successful I’m all for it as there’s more chance of a drop in performance.

I think they'll win the league unfortunately, to do 3 in a row is a hard task and if City aren't going to win it then Liverpool unfortunately will :(

Have they left themselves short up front with mane, Origi and the Japanese fella all leaving?
Depends on the fitness of our forwards. Last season I think Firmino had a few injuries but apart from that and AFCON everyone else was fit most of the time. Salah seems immune to serious injury.

Currently we have Nunez, Diaz, Jota, Salah and Firmino to cover the front three but Carvalho could play in one of the wide positions as could Elliott. I think keeping one of Minamino or Origi might've been a smart move.

I think that is plenty up front for three positions. I'm sure there are some talented youth players waiting for a chance to impress in cup games as well.

Yes they will surely get 80+ points even without Mane. Only team other than city have chance to come close to that tally is spurs under Conte. Of course it's just theory.

But for me liverpool with that kind of heavy load last season they may count one two long injury lay offs for their prime players. So it's not entirely impossible to drag them further down in my opinion.

I also have a sneaky feeling that Liverpool will disappoint this season - to the point where they might finish 3rd or something.

So in actuality they'll probably win the league.

Agree I think both City and Liverpool will decline in the league with City still probably winning it.

I think though City might finally win CL since I think Haaland will suit those games better.

Although Real winning that again would not shock me they have a great side and real specialists.
If it is a City vs Real final I do fancy Real.

I do though think City will beat Bayern and PSG who also got great sides, but one of those sides might knockout Real.

Liverpool was relativly poor in big games last year and Mane has usually been the big game player for them with Van Dijk. Thus I struggle to see them win CL unless they manage to get an easy draw again.
