We are chasing a player who barca are adamant wont go for less than 86 mill. We want to pay less. Why dont we pick our top offer say its 75 mill for example and give them a week to accept. We put the finality on it. If no deal walk away. Go for our next target. This would show the football world were not just gonna pay anything like we have been doing. It might even work to our advantage as Barca might come back a week or so after with an agreement to our offer.

As long as some of our targets are signed by the time pre season starts its fine. Signing them now or signing them in a week or two makes absolutely no difference, except to appease some "fans" who think this is FM in real life.

I agree with this. If Barca were not facing any financial issues, then fair play, they have every right to demand whatever fees they want.

But they need this as much as us, and we seem to be the only club interested. Give them a final offer to take it or leave it. feck them for asking even more money, when he's not exactly been a runaway success for them.

if we don’t buy anyone this month it’ll be clear that the club no longer matches my ambitions and i will have to seek an alternative. the new fm is out in a matter of months, if we don’t spend united’s budget will be severely impacted and i may only last until the end of the festive period before getting sacked, instead of being given the extra time to do a moyes.

In the worst case scenario of no transfers, how would our midfield evolve?. Apart from Garner do we have anyone else lurking around who can do a job in midfield?

If we are to sign players, then we surely should sign them before we fly out to Thailand and Australia to aid team bonding and tactics etc. Surely..

Think there is already a deadline in that Barca has until June 30th to get things in order financially.
Don't know much about these Financial matters.

Option d) nobody wants to come!

I choose d) because;
Top players will shy away until they see what sort of ' fist' ETH is making
of the job.

I'm not overly fussed that things aren't happening immediately. It's still early, and we're in a situation where we have a new manager who has not yet been able to interact with the squad.

If we're looking for bad signs, how about this though: All of the players we are actively pursuing come out of Ajax under EtH (or in Eriksens case, trained with them). Evidently, the list of options is down to players EtH knows directly. Is the confidence in the club's scouting department now so non-existent that they've simply been more or less shunted out of the process? If so, maybe there are good reasons for that and maybe there aren't, but in either case it's cause for concern.

Of course, familiarity with EtHs system and so on makes these players extra attractive, but there's a difference between that and focusing solely on players with that background. But while there are lots of rumours about other players, the only ones where there seems to have been concrete initiatives from United are Timber, Martinez, Antony, De Jong and Eriksen. That looks like more than just the tendency of the media to jump at the Ajax link?
If I were to guess, this is a new manager using the first transfer window to instill his philosophy and methods on a new squad. He needs promoters and players who buy in his methods. I would be super concerned if the same Ajax/ex-ETH players transfer strategy persists next summer, with small exceptions for long-term targets like Timber, who I think will come either now or next summer

I'm between option b and c at the moment. We're 2 weeks into a 12 week window, and as long as we see some new faces by then (before start of the season hopefully) we should be OK. I would still be annoyed if we don't have anyone in though by end of July. I just don't care when it happens from now till then.

This window was always going to be tricky - players want CL football and some confidence their career won't go down the toilet (like those currently here) - it's hard to sell a project if you can't see it. It's just the reality of where we're at. That's why comparing with Liverpool/City is insane - the situations are night and day.

Almost a decade of mismanagement will take time to turnaround.
A lot of time.
One huge positive to hold onto is that we didn't panic that Pogba & Lingard etc were drifting out of contract, and desperately offer them anything to stay.
I believe that would probably have happened under Woodward, just to "protect the assets"

The problem is that we can't attract the best players because we are a Spurs level club. And we don't want spurs level players. So it's going to take time and we will have to pay through the nose. Which Glazers don't like.

We don't pay anything. We recently waited a year to knock 40m off Sancho price

We didnt wait, we were given a deadline to get it done by Dortmund and they closed it down for a season when the deadline passed. We still tried to deal with them after the deadline, but they were adamant even after Utd offered over £90 mill with add ons*, more than we eventually paid. Money was saved as there was only us in for him. Liverpool heard he wanted £375k a week and baulked at it.

We offered Pogba £300k a week, how isn’t that desperately offering a player to stay?

Why would a player go out his way to play for a team that hasn’t won league in a decade, sketchy front office and ownership, players all dropping levels, and players consistently leaking how messed up things are. The stadium is falling apart, fans are upset, players aren’t good and somehow outlast managers of every creed, and Ralf gave a passionate speech on the incompetence then got sacked. It’s an abysmal team. We legit are haggling over pricing of a player, but refuse to do more than one deal at time. United refuse to face reality because the owners don’t give a hell. Their dad bought the team, and had blind faith in his stupid sons. They are so out of their depth they tried to Americanize the fecking sport because they are so in need of a safety net. Fans protesting in front of houses for fecks sake and they still won’t budge.

There are is an angle that some people aint looking at any more and that is Man Utd attraction to a young up and coming hotshot player in europe, talkless of a world class one.

Take for example Jurien Timber. Years ago, the transfer will be done without a player even thinking, but truth is, he is loosing CL football and for development, he is better off going to somewhere like Dortmund

So yes it might look like United aint signing anyone but truth is that we have lost that instant appeal

I don't think Ralf was sacked but apart from that fairly accurate. But ETH is cause for optimism.

Relax guys,

I have it on good authority, we are signing 60 players in the next few weeks.

United are simply teasing us meanwhile.

Been seeing in places around the Web and twitter, that its possible United have been deliberately going slow on some transfers, waiting for todays court case result, so they can assess whether or not someone will be returning to the squad this season & changing targets if that is the case.

If any of that is accurate, then it again shows, the little forward planning the club has.

Yeah I am expecting less links to Ajax/Erik players in the next couple of transfer windows

Who knows at this point, everything changed rather suddenly when Mbappe stayed at PSG and also Sane quiting Liverpool.

Anythings possible if Liverpool want to cash in and Salah forces a move before contract ends.

Not sure where he will go now, doesn't appear Madrid want him despite Mbappe snubbing them.

Wonder how the fanbase will react if we end up not signing anyone in this window. I truly feel it is a possibility. The club is still, even with ETH, managing the aftermath of a horrendous identity crisis since Sir Alex left.

Chill the feck out.
This way of thinking has seen us go from serial winners to unable to win a trophy if our lives depended upon it.
Winners never think this way.

We finished the season with form akin to a relegation team and we have fallen further behind in the transfer window, thus far.

We will definitely sign someone. My money would be on De Jong.
We'll probably sign another player, too.

The big issue I have is that we lack the expertise, skill and competence to offload the dead wood. Selling players is the far bigger issue.

I really don't think City or Liverpool (with all their transfer nous) would be able to sell Martial on the contract he's on and wages he'd expect. Its not about skill or expertise, its about some of these crazy contracts running down and that all signings made from this window on being players being paid to their market worth, not just United gazumping all other interested parties.

Also if we actually get our transfer plans right we shouldn't have too much deadwood to begin with. The very idea that we could release 6 players who weren't really going to be missed and could easily add another 5 in just shows how bad we've been in our planning. I look back to the early 2000s when we had such a strong squad and would maybe look to bring in Ruud or Veron to improve competition. We could lose superstars like Stam or even Beckham without it derailing our squad harmony. Its what City and Liverpool have now and hopefully this is the beginning of United getting back to those levels.
