In what role? We’ve just hired a deputy football director, and Murtough just gained some power as football director. (No, I’m not suggesting these people are better than Edwards.)

I would very much welcome this. He'll have more freedom at Chelsea, in all likelihood, but the scope for improvement is way more dramatic at United so in that sense a lot more exciting job. Hope we get him.

Recruitment - neither Murtough or O'Boyle have any real experience in that (hence why we are currently just raiding players who played under Ten Hag)

As if the director of football, Murtough, is going to contact the Glazers, who know nothing about football, to approach Edwards to replace him.

What a waste of time. Don't you know Murtough is on the job and he's amazing?

If Edwards is brought in then he would be head of recruitment with Murtough as the director overseeing the whole football operations. He wouldn't be replacing him. The way I see it is the Glazers are sick of wasting money on players, there's pressure coming from them and also Richard Arnold who doesn't want to repeat Woodward's mistakes.

Interesting that we're also interested in that Brentford guy. Brentford are a club that rely heavily on analytics and United just recently appointed Dominic Jordan as the head of data science. I reckon there will be more changes coming. Our whole scouting department is going through a transition.

While it looks like he is off to Chelsea, at least the fact we are looking at people like this shows that Arnold and Murtough recognise they are out of there depth and need to bring in help from out side the club.
Somthing we should of done when Fergie left, but it’s rattled on for a decade.

Any reason why he left Liverpool particularly when he was highly thought of over there?

It’s so odd that so many people have been taken in by the ‘new structure’ and seem to think it means recruitment won’t be heavily dependent on the manger. There’s simply no one with the experience or competence to do anything other than defer to the manager.

Was such a glaring gap when Murtough and Fletcher were promoted and has never been addressed. I think zero chance of Edwards coming here, if someone ever is appointed probably be much lower profile.

This sounds like utter bollocks. Edwards wouldn’t work under Murtough, would he?

Fun fact: Edwards had far less footballing experience let alone recruiting experience when he took over at Liverpool

I’d happily take either Edwards or Marina Granovskaia as both seem to brilliant in the transfer market and both seem brilliant in getting a premium for outgoing players as well, even fringe ones.

Whether it’s a brief from United to appease fans after such a slow summer transfer wise I don’t know and it’s something that the club have form for but if it’s true then it means Arnold and Murtough realise their limitations and know they need someone in for a head of recruitment role, Paul Mitchell would be my personal pick if Edwards doesn’t come.

Murtough is our DOF. I'm sick of United's name getting thrown into everything just for clicks.

Transfer guru? The whole world knew all about all 3 of them
They all went from being good (to very good) players to being world class, or top 10 in the world. It's hard to talk down those deals.
