So all they had to do was hire a law firm to sort out contracts and they go for probably G.Nev recommendation in the Keane twins brother.

Mates FC. Like, good and all, but is England such a small village we just always happen to hire a mate of a mate?

Did he have to be from the family of an ex-United player?! I mean, really?! He's probably excellent at what he does, but why does it have to be us with the nepotism? It's become a meme at this point.

It is incredibly rare at other clubs that players and their community work at the club after playing career

And like feck you do. Sorry are we suddenly meant to trust this club’s decision making?
which is probably why he didn't post a comment stating how bad of an appointment it was..

if you look at his CV he's actually pretty qualified for the job

Brandsmiths website reads: 'In sport, Tom has vast experience in the football industry where he has become a trusted advisor and representative for household name players, managers and pundits.
'His work for these clients includes negotiating high value transfers, contracts and endorsement agreements.' Keane is also listed on the website of player agency New Era Global Sports as an FA registered intermediary.
So many beautiful words but all we get to know is he's registered with FA under player agency.

Do we have to announce/leak this kind of stuff? It just seems to attract unnecessary, to people who should be working in the background from our deranged fanbase.

He’ll be doing all the legal parts, fine contractual details etc. Not negotiating transfers in the way people might think. He’ll be getting the right protections in for the club, the right language etc. Advising on enforceability and clause details etc etc. There are several people involved in the transfer process. His previous work as an intermediary and player advocate is only a strength as far as I see it.

That’s my assessment anyway.
Yes by reading the statement above he has experience in this.

Bayern Munich have former players in pretty much every key leadership position and have had so for a long while (Uli Hoeneß, Rummennigge, Beckenbauer, Kahn, Salihamidzic, etc.). Sir Alex even hailed them for taking that approach. Outside of Bayern, AC Milan currently have Paolo Maldini as a technical director (basically Fletcher's role), PSG had Leonardo as their sporting director for many years, Barcelona had Txiki Begiristain before he moved to City not to mention both Abidal and Puyol working as sporting directors, Real Madrid had Valdano and Zidane work as their sporting directors and currently have both Casillas and Butragueño in other roles, etc.

It's way, way more common than you think.

EDIT: One more notable example - former United player Brian Kidd was Sir Alex's assistant coach when United won their first league title in 1992/93 after so long.

I got a warning for this even though a few posters posted similar before me.

Anyway to elaborate, it seems that rather than hiring the best out there we are classically being ‘Mates FC’. O’Boyle was also an ex United guy. For some reason, even though we’re such a mess we don’t want to look out to hire upstairs. We came close with Ralf but his ideas must have been way too out there that we sacked off his consulting. We’re stuck in the past and I don’t know if we ever will come out of this mess.

:lol::lol:

Like feck do you have a single solitary clue what Tom Keane’s experience is
I don’t, I’m not the one claiming it’s either good or bad. You claimed he’s an inexperienced nobody like a toddler throwing a tantrum that we’ve not hired Jeff Winger to be our legal representative.
So we’re now blaming somebody who hasn’t started work yet for… well nothing actually going wrong at all (so far at least)

Cool. Glad I understand.
Give it a rest christ you’re talking utter nonsense.
Are you Tom Keane himself? Or one of his brothers? Very passionate about this one.

This approach is great.

As long as you have people who can look at these former players, judge them well and choose the ones who fit certain roles.

Yes you've missed my sarcasm. It is pretty standard. But I appreciate you writing the post I was too lazy to write and writing it better than I would have !

He's having a go at your needless negativity (yes, it's needless as you've completely ignored his credentials in your prior posts). If you want to be angry about nepotism, there's Carlo Ancelotti who's hired his son to coach with him since the PSG days.

The guy might be the best at whatever it is he does.
He's related to a former Man Utd player so that can't be true. Anyone hired by the club now who has had a link previously is obviously just hired because of nepotism. They have no qualifications or experience. Who cares what their duties actually are? Making things up and being angry for no reason is best.

Imagine having Keane, Neville, Rio, Cantona, Beckham, McGrath, Ince, lock up inside a room without flying pizza.

Woodward and Judge had too much influence on running the football operations of the club when they weren't fit to do it.

Arnold is allowing Murtough to run the football side within parameters such as total spend. Murtough is 100x more qualified to oversee the football side than Woodward and Judge were. They were heavily involved in player transactions and also the inability to shift the deadwood.
I would imagine Glazers and Woodward went to watch how Powell, Schnederlin, Dalot, Telles play, and decided these are the players that we want. They even wrote down AWB's workrate is excellent, his crossing is excellent.

You can blame Sanchez on Woodward, add Pogba & CR, but 90% of our failed recruit, would not have caught the attention of a "business focus" CEO/Chairman. Sanchez failure might have caught a lot of press attention, but at the end of the day, it is the failure on Powell, Schnederlin, Dalot, Telles, AWB, plus the big big ? on Lindelof, Maguire, Pogba, Fred, Bailley, Martial, that is costing us dearly.

I'm confused as to what point you're trying to make and how that is related to Judge as a contract negotiator for inbound players and players you're trying to sell.

The biggest thing United have lacked for most seasons is a lack of consistent goal scorers and a consistent way of playing to generate enough good goal scoring chances.

Powell, Telles, Dalot, were not signed to be immediate starters and were relatively inexpensive. The other players you mentioned have had their uses, but not desired impact. More like Martial, Maguire, Bailly. Pogba had a great first season and nice half season when Ole was interim manager, with a handful of good to great games spread across the other 3.5 years.

United can and will offer better wages, but to the point of not being able to offload/sell players has been detrimental. That's been on Judge.

If needed someone like this why wasn’t it done earlier. It feels like everything is just made up as they go along, then when it inevitably all goes wrong there is just a shrug of the shoulders and they all carry on without any accountability.

If Duckers post is credible he is hopefully good enough to exceed in his role. Many people are memorised by changes but the credibility of these transitions should already be viewed with skepticism. The mere fact that Ragnick is no longer here is enough of an alarm bell regarding the strategic direction of the senior level staff.

Because Matt Judge has still been working for the club.

Supposedly he wasn’t involved this summer and the ‘new structure’ wanted him out the door. If a guy who has been a disaster has still been working during his notice it just underlines my point.

If people at the club are competent and proactive this shouldn’t be happening now.

Does anyone actually believe there has been significant change at the club. Sure some people have left but have any highly regarding people replaced them or have their responsibilities just been divied up amongst some of those responsible for previous failungs? It feels like the changes made have been done to give the illusion of significant change rather than to improve things
