As i said, Uniteds silence on this and all the more reputable sources too speaks volumes.
Ronaldo news or not, if negotiations had broken down, we'd have briefed, something short and sweet saying that negotiations have become too difficult and we're moving on to alternative targets.

Imagine if we cock this up  In what should have been one of our busiest transfer windows in our history we negotiate for almost 2 months for a players that doesn't want to join.
You are assuming that. No one is that dumb to spend 2 months chasing after someone unless there was some indication that he would move. ETH would have spoken to him too -- are you saying that Frenkie lied to ETH?

I was just posting.

Personally I think this deal is done. No way Barca will back out of selling, they can't afford to.
sorry, was not directed at you, I was making a sarcastic point that Odgen thinks he's added anything new to the conversation.

Or maybe you stay silent and let the theatrics play itself out?

Just wrap it up, why do we seem to be the only club that takes an age to get transfers completed, we’ve seen ices ages come and go quicker. I know people will say there’s loads of time yet, the window has only been open a few days, but come on some of our transfers are like some sort of mini series!

Then Laporta will spring on him that he has to take upwards of a 70% cut in wages most likely.
You can love a club but bloody hell would you work for over half less of what you were on before? If your employer came to you and said we need you to slash your monthly pay for you to stay here, would you realistically do it when you have an offer of going somewhere else for what you're earning now?
But what if De Jong just says I’m staying and not taking a pay cut? Apparently he’s going from 350k and forgoing his rising wages to jointing Utd for 200k anyway. He isn’t getting his Barca wages at United that’s for sure.

We're good at briefing. We've done it pretty much every time we've walked away. Plus as others have said, look at how quickly we moved on from Timber when it was clear he didn't want to come. For us to keep negotiating with Barca, EtH must have some reassurance from de Jong that he wants to come

Because if he wants to stay at Barca, i imagine his wages would fall WELL below £200k a week.
Barca can't keep paying his £350k a week

Could you imagne how Frenkie must feel if he DID lower his wages to stay, probably over 50% of what he's on now, only for Lewandowski to come in and earn more than double? No one in their right mind would think Lewa would come in and play for Barca for peanuts.
Yeah and the fact that the club he loves doesn't see him as a good enough fit. The only thing Barca has over us right now is champions league football and better weather. Unless his family really loves their lifestyle in Catalonia he's better off joining us. With Gavi and Pedri, his days are numbered anyway.

I know a lot of people describe him (FR) as a "tap in artist", but I think he's been the most consistent ITK on this transfer; he's always talked about the myriad difficulties and the practical reasons for delay in signing FDJ, so this is a pretty reassuring post given what's being discussed elsewhere.

I really like him when he gives me the news I want to hear.

So after Laporta's comments, absolutely nothing new/negative from the BBC/Tele/Romero and a Tier 1/2 in Fab is still saying it's on.....you mean Laporta continues to talk shit? well colour me shocked.

That we can be certain. If anything their relationship will have been broken if FdJ doesn't go through with this. And ETH will have been damaged internally, within United's hierarchy if this falls apart.

I think if the player hadn't been on a long and obviously important holiday (where he got engaged), this would have moved much faster. I fully expect things will be finalised quickly as soon as he gets back from Mexico (Wednesday, I think).

There are two issues with him reducing his Barca wages.

Firstly, Barca want the transfer fee + saved wages off the books to get new players

Secondly, De Jong around 2020 signed a new deal to help the club financially. He basically agreed to defer his wages but by taking a few years at a 'lower salary' then the remaining years on his contract would essentially pay back what was owed to him in the form of a greatly increased p/w wage. Even if he takes a paycut he is still essentially owed quite a bit of money. It would't surprise me if this was part of the problem and one of the 'significant hurdles' that we were told about.

I will also say as well that people making him out to be willing to play for less money, like I said above he technically wouldn;t be. He only went to Barca initially instead of PSG as Barca gave him more money than PSG (thanks to Nike)

He would be a PSG player had Nike not agreed to heavily subsidize his Barcelona wage.

Let's not start this discussion again. FR is marmite here and we should just leave it at that.

Well it's exactly what we did with Fabregas so who knows what we are doing. I do however agree that it seems unlikely. In any way: We need to wrap this up quickly and then resolve the Ronaldo issue. If he really does leave we need forwards.

He's coming. laporta reminds me of marotta from juve when he came out regarding no sell of pogba . When we already have signed the player and were waiting for his holiday to end to finalise the move. It's the same with de jong.

Been hearing that FDJ is "close" for weeks now. I dont think this will happen and I will only believe it when it does.

Personally, won't be the worst if we don't get FDJ. Can't stand the idea of signing somebody who doesn't want to come here.

That was on Woodward. The dumb cnut was flying around the world claiming he was about to close deals everywhere. Now that was embarrassing/humiliating.

If we fail to get this across, it's nothing compared to those days -- especially after we were league-feckin' champs the previous season.

It's not so much about being embarrassing. I don't care about that. But we need proper quality in CM and it's highly unlikely we would get that so late in the window if this breaks down. Plus as I've said we still have the Ronaldo issue. So this hold up isn't ideal.

When is De Jong coming back from vacation?
If this drags on I'm sure we'll have a couple of nervous breakdowns on here
