He apparently rejected us a while ago under Ole, and he is Argentinian. People tend to hate them for some reason, as not many are successful here.
Now that you've mentioned it. Even the successful ones like Heinze and Tevez left under a cloud. Heinze wanting to go to Liverpool, and Tevez for various obvious reasons including the RIP Fergie sign. Hell Romero was decent for us and he also left in a bad way.

Di Maria, Rojo and to some extent, Veron were failures. Here's hoping Garnacho doesn't turn out the same.

"The problem with him is his recent injury record"

...and you think that's not a valid reason for people to say no thanks?
No I don't. If we can give him a training regiment that was similar to what we did with RVP we'll be alright. Everyone wanted Cavani to stay another year despite having a similar injury record to Dybala the season before.

Short notice? The window has only just opened.

Last summer we seemed to swing the Ronaldo deal pretty quick when he was heading to City. Not every signing has to be like this de Jong saga.

And there's a few forwards that I think could do a good job here. I'm just not sure what's "realistic" as I'm not ITK. I don't know how good you think Martial is but I'm pretty sure we could find a forward that is better than him.
Realistic in the sense of he will fit into our budget without impacting our other needs. CB, CM and RW. Also realistic in the sense that he's attainable and wants to come here i.e don't say Benzema/Adeyemi. Don't think you need to be itk to have a bit of common sense.

Who would you suggest ? out of curiosity ?

He wont exactly be free would he?

He would likely demand a high sign on fee since the club doesnt need to pay any transferfee. Added on top of that he will likely also demand a very high wage. He didnt even want to leave Juventus but he couldnt agree a deal with the club he wanted to stay at because he wanted more money.

Will he be worth it as a free signing but on high wages with his injury record? He did miss 16 last seasons because of injury.

He still played 39 games though. That's not terrible.

Cool, explain to me how someone who's scored 47 goals in 153 games in Seria A at 28 is a realistic option as a replacement for someone who, at 37, scored 24 in 28 appearances.

Ronaldo can feck off, but this lad isn't the answer.

I think we have our wires crossed a bit. In your original post you said he's good backup to Martial. I said if he's got to the level that he's only considered backup to Martial then we need better, a bit tongue in cheek.

I wouldn't say no to Dybala on a free. But if Martial is still first choice then that's a big problem and I think we can/must do better. Simply not enough goals.

Who said he had to match Ronaldo's output?

Firstly, he's a completely different type of player and secondly, he is available for nothing and would add massive quality to the squad.

Every summer United are linked with or eventually sign short-termism forwards on fat wages.
Can't we get away from that ?

I don't think he'd be backup to Martial, I meant it in the sense of we can't go into a season with just Martial as our CF option, even if Martial does rediscover his form under Ole's second season (which I think is quite possible under ETH) he does get injured a lot.

Apologies for not being clearer.

If we are looking to replace Ronaldo's output, i think we would have to go for Lewandowski or Benzema, which is unrealistic. The only other 2 players moved to our rivals and Mbappe signed an extension. Kane is not coming either. If we have to buy a replacement for Ronaldo, it will be a decent downgrade output wise.

Lets hope we have a plan.

"He's available for nothing" sure he is, signing on fees, agents fees and wages aren't a thing, right?

Plus, I wouldn't expect him to match Ronaldos output, if he could match half that, then maybe.

This has overrated player looking for one last pay day written all over it.

If he wants to come on £100k a week with a massive goal bonus then maybe, something tells me he wouldn't be up for that.

Any player we sign will cost something. Dybala we have no transfer fee to pay. Feel like I don't really have to explain that.

Suggest an alternative then?

I've no alternative to suggest, if Ronaldo wanting out was a thing we should've known that 3 weeks ago, not while we're in preseason..

That way we could have factored it into planning and not be left to panic buying overrated, money grabbing feckers like Dybala to settle a panicked fan base.

Who was suggesting we should take him on a free a week ago?

Well situations change. A week ago we were all assuming Ronaldo is staying.

Surely there are some decent young prospects out there who we could develop, instead of chasing big names who would demand obscene wages and probably not be overly motivated to succeed here. I'm against signings like Dybala, Neymar etc. It feels too Woodward

Were you against the Cavani signing?

On a free, with Ronald's wages off the books, on a 1-3 year deal for a 28 year old, that could slot in as our CF? YES.

Some people may not like it but if Ronaldo leaves he would be the best available option. No haggling with a team on a fee, just offer him a deal and use some of the money freed up from Ronaldo's wages going.

Which is the exact definition of panic buying, how's that gone for us in, let's say, the last 10 years?
So we should sell Ronaldo and give ETH a cf option of only Martial ?

If De Gea get's a serious injury tomorrow, let's not panic just let Heaton be number 1 we'll be alright.

As much as we would like to build an young player, we are a business too. The glazers wouldn't just let their prized asset go and replace him with nothing. It would be a PR disaster.

Do you really think Ed acted on his own ? Glazers knew everything what he did and they agreed to do it. So come out of this imaginary world that we will develop someone younger. We would sign a superstar if Ronaldo leaves.

No, we should hand Dybala a record breaking contract, let's say 5 years at £500k a week, plus signing on and agents fees.

That'd probably make a huge difference over signing noone in panic and lining up a proper signing in January if we can't sort something else this window.

How many of our panic signings in the last 10 years have been worth it or improved our league position?

And yet this isn't brought up much for Martinez. Seems it's probably because he apparently rejected us and isn't the hot property he once was, the Argentinian thing seems to just be included as part of the bundle.

Our transfers have been shit in general. Nothing to do with some them being 'panic signings' or not.

Ok I get what you meant.

In terms of options though, these intrigue me based on what I've seen of them. No idea what type of forward ETH would want or what their price would be, but...

João Felix or Nkunku - Both very unlikely. Atletico may be open to it but sounds like JF isn't. Great all round players that I think would be good for at least 10-15 league goals.

Osimhen - Athletic, good goalscorer, incredible in the air. Could lead the line well as a lone CF. Not sure what he'd cost, Napoli always quote high prices but never seen the waters tested.

Zapata - If we want a target man that is good with the ball at his feet, I think he's a decent option. I think he's basically what Lukaku tries to be as a player, but he doesn't score as much as Lukaku. Like him as a player though and he could fill the role for a year or two of that's what we need.

Schick - Good goalscorer, reminds me of RVP at times. Not sure they'd sell but I feel it could happen if we pushed. Correct me if I'm wrong but do Leverkusen have the means to turn down a reasonable bid and is he that attached to them? I know he signed a new deal recently but I still feel like a bigger team could make it happen if they really wanted to.

Danjuma - impressed me as a LW but hearing he played as a CF last season. Intriguing if true, he's got the attributes of a good player to fulfill that role. A constant thorn in a CBs side that is reasonably strong but also fast and good at carrying the ball. For the right price I'd be happy to see it given a go. Put up decent numbers as a CF last season, including 5 goals from that position in the CL. Seems to have gotten injured quite a bit so missed games to really hit double figures in the league. 6 goals and 2 assists from 9 games in that position according to info I could find online. He's versatile too in that he can play LW, which I thought was his primary position until I was told he played CF last season and looked into it more.

Ekitike sounds a player with good potential, but I think Garnacho even more so. I certainly wouldn't be against him being given plenty of opportunities and recent stories have suggested ETH will fast track him.

I can't imagine Inter paying him that much. Maybe we offer what they do plus a little more. Were not desperate for him, if he doesn't come, so be it.

We won't be bothering with Dybala. Not because certain people at the club don't want him. Because they probably do. But Ten Hag doesn't sign players on a knee jerk decision. He wants players that can fit into his system. Players that he can trust to do a job. This is why he was interested in Bergwijn. Because he knows him, he's coached him before. He knows he can get the best out of him. Dybala is an unknown quantity. What will he bring to the table? What is his attitude to hard work? Does he want to be here? Is he going to be chilling out on the injury table, like the others did before him?

We've been down this road a few times now. Sanchez, Falcao, Cavani, Zlatan, Ronaldo. Short-term decisions that unbalance the squad and eventually cause unrest in the dressing room.

Have faith in the manager and the decisions he wants to make.

At the end of the day, i dont think we are going to sign him, and i think it is not the worst idea. An out and out striker is a better choice. We really need goals.

With Eriksen, VdB and Bruno, we have that space covered.

How much you reckon he'd want lads, less or more than a Lingard?
More than Lingard is still a mile off 500k

I reckon he'd take half that, not that I think we should pay him that. 200k on a 2+1 contract.
