This seems to be the general opinion here and I disagree massively. Football moves on very quickly and we’ve seen far too many historically big clubs fade into irrelevancy for a long time. Look at Liverpool until 5 years ago, or even us right now. Either they don’t spend for a while and risk becoming another Liverpool, or they sell off assets and float around the top. If it was United I’d much rather the latter.
Liverpool is the last club you should mention. They went so long just winning FA cups etc and were still one of the biggest and well supported clubs on the planet.

It’s not about losing money. It’s about being competitive. Liverpool didn’t sniff a league title for 3 decades. Milan were absolute shite in the 2010s. It’s very very hard to claw your way back to the elite level once you’ve slipped away for a few years. Look at us.
One option is for United to contact all their sponsors and find one or two that are willing to use De Jong as an ambassador for 17m.
Because players use net wages as a basis for comparison. You can't have say Pedri on €5m, Gavi on €3m and then Dembele on €12m or Frankie on €18m. Tax rates can change (as they did for Beckham in Madrid or for Ronaldo in Italy) with the end result not being that players net more - it's just the club ends up paying less gross.

Firstly, I don’t believe that he’s that much of a doormat that he’ll willingly play for a club who owes him £17m while spending millions on millions on new players young and old while simultaneously forcing him out. Not when the alternative is rejoining the manager who gave you your break at a massive club, where the fans will adore you and you’ll be paid extremely handsomely. Also, Murtough and Arnold wouldn’t travel to Barcelona without a green light that he’s willing to come. They’re not that incompetent, even if they are (jury’s out).
As for Barcelona, it’s very morally poor that they’re willing to spend 50 million on 34 year old Lewandowski while owe-ing a player £17m. Also, it’s not sustainable what they’re doing, as economic levers won’t last forever.

He probably does want out but players never really come out and state otherwise due to bonuses.
But they finished second a few times, they were always in he top four winning CLs and reaching CL finals. That’s more than competitive. They’re one of the biggest teams in the planet as we speak and they’ve only won 1 league in 30 years!
It’s such a bad example when trying to argue Barca should literally risk their future fighting for success when total success isn’t needed. Their fans aren’t going to disappear because they haven’t signed Raphina.

I swear, it seems as if less than 10% of posts on any given day are interesting/original/informative. These then get added to the other 90%, that consist mainly of repetition, memes that initially drew a chuckle, and endless and endless and endless clickbait tweets. Then the baseless analyses start.
I've never been a RedCafe muppet before, and for many years I wished I was one. With FDJ I really wanted to feel what it was like - and I am left with only one conclusion.
Good god it is tedious. What a monumental waste of time.

Maybe is the agent indicating that they are now willing to negotiate on the deferred payment.
They’re not risking their future though. I know people are painting it as a disaster but most clubs in Spain sold a portion of their TV rights years ago. 10% of them is of course a fair whack, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not going to cripple Barca.

Anyone know much about the supposed 3:1 rule imposed on Barca by La Liga? I gather that for every €4 the club makes, €3 must go towards debt and €1 can be reinvested into the club. Essentially that means only 25% of any money coming into Barca is available for them to spend. I don't know how it works but there was some suggestion that the second 'lever' would effectively mean the removal of La Liga's restrictions and a return to some normality, at least in the short-term, for Barca. I think there must be issues with FDJ's departure that are related to the previous wage deferral but if Barca are also about to find themselves free of sanctions and restraint, surely that must also be a factor that would probably see them deliberately stall any large outgoing deal?
