Possible that Xavi had to decide between Dembele or de Jong.
Frenkie costs the club around €30m in masa salarial every year from now on.
Dembele signed his new contract for €6m net, that means somewhere around €10-12m in masa salarial.

Ous is from this point on three times cheaper for the club than Frenkie, but is way more important on the pitch. If there was a decision between them, it didn't take 3 seconds to think about it.

The Frenkie de Jong transfer saga could probably end up being like the Nico Gaitain and Wesley Schneider transfer sagas. Constantly linked but no deal
“We’ve got a deal that’s oven-ready.

“We’ve just got to put it in at gas mark four, give it 20 minutes and Bob’s your uncle.

“There’s only one way to get Frenkie done and there’s only one way to get it done fast and that’s to pay him his freaking wages”

If I was owed millions in wages, I'd be playing hardball and refusing to leave too.

I think with all the business Barca are doing they 100% need to sell and it will get done eventually.
This is my opinion too. Barca are forcing him out and if he has to leave he will come here....... They're trying to make him leave without paying a tonne of money owed, so he's quite rightly calling their bluff until they pay him out.

I think it might rumble loooooong in to the window but will eventually get done with somebody blinking first (hopefully Barca)

What I do find truly bizarre, is when agreeing to defer wages to aid Barca’s plight, did they honestly not write in an agreement on any outstanding monies should the player leave in the meantime? I mean really, at this level?

Genuine question. Does anyone else find it odd that we seemingly have a free run at him ? Why aren’t other clubs interested ?

Let's not forget about the Second Economic Lever which kicks in within the next week max. Gives Barcelona money to pay deferred wages and ability to reinvest 100% of transfer fees into the market rather than 1/3 of it with the rest going into debt restructuring.
Once it's put in place we'll start hearing progress IMO

The fee and wages are huge and none of the other 5 clubs that could afford him have an FDJ type as a high priority.
Really strange that City and Pool aren’t interested. Both could definitely do with him and he seems a perfect fit in either system. Never mind PSG.

I accidentally opened this thread on my phone on page 302 and the update then, from the second week of June, reads exactly like an update we would get today…

I think it’s wise to just not follow this transfer for a week or two.

The club likes to test the competency of our negotiators and accountants.

This is why I’d just pay a bit extra to help Barcelona out.

This time next year plenty of clubs would need him.
A bit extra to help Barcelona out isn’t required, it is the convincing of the player. Barcelona are on the same page as us.

arnold: “so yeah lads, i went to barcelona with jimmy and we demanded to see laporte. the stupid, foren taxi driver didn’t understand us though and took us the docks instead. quick as a flash jimmy was all “we ain’t here to suck any sailers off. we’re here for de jong, not de dong.” we had a barry and paul (chuckle) cheersed are carlings and then got a uber to there training ground.

of course laporte was at a restaurant. we’d called at an awkward time, between brunch and lunch, so he was sitting down to his fourth meal of the day. me and jimmy burst in to the restaurant and told laporte that de jong was going back with us or we were going to have a scrap. laporte calmed us down by ordering two beers. was that estrella muck but the sun was out so we sank them. a few beers and a few shots later we’d managed to negotiate paying another 20m over three years to them, alongside a goodwill lever of 7m. told them to accept by friday or we’ll add another 5m. it’s only euros so not real money. stupid prick.

went to the beach afterwards and tried to smash a couple of local broads. frigid as feck over there. didn’t even react to jimmy helicoptering his willy after slashing into the sea from the rocks. got easyjet back this morning. heads fecked.”

City have the same problem as Barca - they have Rodri who wants to receive the ball deep and have KdB, Gundo, Bernardo etc. who play between the lines and wait to receive the ball.

Liverpool have Thiago and Keita and it's not their style to spend this much money on a signing.

I honestly think Madrid could've used a player like him but it's very rare for players to transfer between Madrid and Barca. FdJ is no Figo.

Except that isn't the case here. They aren't unpaid wages. They are deferred wages paid over the remainder of the duration of his contract. There is a massive difference.

This was what Frenkie agreed to previously (wrongly in hindsight), and now barcelona are trying to weasel out of it by ending his contract via transfer to us.

You're just making shite up when you clearly haven't a clue.
Believe what you want to, but ‘deferred’ wages are still wages that would have otherwise been due previously.

This means that had FDJ not agreed the deferral Barca would have owed him that money already.

There is not a legal professional on the planet that would have advised him to defer guaranteed payments due to him and make the deferred payments conditional they would have always been guaranteed.

Clearly you’re a top legal professional though who worked on the deal so can say with certainty that this particular deal went against industry norms.

Needs and wants of other clubs this summer are different. PSG have veratti, Madrid is an impossibility for Barcelona to sell to. Juventus have signed Pogba. Bayern have other priorities. Chelsea jorginho (i don't buy the story they were genuinely interested). Liverpool have other priorities. Arsenal have othet priorities and finally city, who i thought would deffo be intetested arent because they have rodri?!?

You don't need to read all pages, they are literally identical.
Di Maria vibes, talk about money Barca owe him, we should walk away, this is done, some random tweet saying he wants to stay, another random tweet saying we're close - rinse and repeat.

Believable up until they managed to get a flight back without a cancellation, especially with EasyJet

If there has to be a choice, then yes without a second thought.
Frenkie isn't an undisputed starter anymore with Pedri, Gavi and Kessie as competition. And we have a new lad called Torre who showed some Pedri moves in yesterdays game. Also Frenkie's best position as double pivot isn't there in barca's 433. But at the same time, he costs the club €30m+ in masa salarial every year like an elite player and game changer. So there is a big
discrepancy in cost and benefit for the club.
I love Frenkie as a player, but I understand that the club doesn't want him to stay under those circumstances.

City will need to overhaul their entire midfield to fit him in (unless you play him in a sub-optimal role which isn’t worth it).

Liverpool play a very different football but Klopp needs more workhorses in midfield and he already has Thiago as his ball-playing magician.

By all accounts the clubs relationship with De Jong has been destroyed.

United just need to sit back with the popcorn and wait.
