Good players in great sides often become overrated, because people want to appear intelligent by talking about how underrated they are. Football analysis died the day people started saying things like “Jorginho is the system.”
Carrick was a good player, but the biggest indictment of his whole 18 year career is that he only became Michael Carrick. People can speculate as to the why’s, but quite simply, he is just Michael Carrick - for everything that does mean and football, and importantly, everything it doesn’t.

I watched him in real time thanks, you all love Carrick, great, for me one of the most over rated players ever to wear the short, each to their own opinion, I cannot try to convince you otherwise, trust me you will not convince me, like I say I watched the guy, live and formed my opinion, not from stats or you tube or what some pundit says.

Whilst we are on Brian McLair in midfield was also terrible (not as a striker though), anymore people I can annoy???
Well I watched him in real time as well back then. Even then there where people claiming he didnt do anything. The video explains what it is he did so well and why Ferguson used him.
Much like back then, the critics failed to understand what he did and why he was in fact a great player.

Its not a matter of opinion. Carrick was objectively a great player.

Spanish & English: deal agreed
Caf gets super giddy

Spanish: Frenkie says feck off
Caf gets depression

English: Frenkie is interested
Caf gets giddy

Rinse and repeat every fecking day, sometimes multiple times in one day.
Absolutely bonkers this, journos just lapping it up.

It’ll be done, very very very rare a player refuses a move when his club agree a deal and want him gone, even more rare would be his ex manager not having a clear indication that he wants it.

Don’t let the journos cloud your emotions on this.

2 Things....

1st adding to what you are saying, these stats were achieved playing for a dominant Ajax in a relatively weak league (strength in depth) and Barcelona a dominant team in a relatively weak league (strength in depth).....

2nd thing Carrick should not be used as an example of a midfielder to aspire to.... he was bang average and way over hyped on here, the guy was on his way out of the club his performances were so poor until we had a defensive crisis and he had to step in as a CB, admittedly after that reprieve his performances stabilised but still he was, meh at best, he was just slightly better than other bang average midefielders we had at the time, he was fortunate to play in front of a great defence otherwise he would have been exposed more, the worst sideways and backpass merchant I have ever seen play for us, and gave numerous goals away passing to attackers outside our own box,
Wow that's a hot take Zed. You are CAPPING right :nono:

Each to their own but just to put it into perspective.

MC Spent 12 years a the club and racked up 5 prem titles, 1 FA cup, 2 league cups, champions league, Europa league and a world club championship as regular starter for our club. That's not the career of a bang average player and he's not a player who picked up these honours whilst sat on the bench either before you list benchwarmers who have also picked up several honours.

If anything he was underrated and it shows with how crap our central midfield has been since he retired. SAF signed him, trusted him and he was one half of his first choice midfield partnership. Carrick would often look for the forward pass when the moment was right. You can't just look forward all the time and try high risk passes even if the front line are magicians.

I get that his highlight real on YouTube probably doesn't leave you wet but come on man if you've ever played the game at a decent level or genuinely understand the game beyond the average viewer then you'd appreciate what a player like MC brings to the table.

I get why he went under the radar for some fans and some fans will be disappointed in FDJ for the same reasons as he isn't going to rack up goals and assists but in terms of the teams transitional play he'll be vital.

Maybe I'm wrong but i feel that he was more than just " meh at best " .

Not sure what that actually means. However, my support for EtH is full and it wasn’t a criticism in any way.
I’ve just never seen such a potential influx in 40 years of watching United!
Lets accept it that he prefers „his“ players, especially since our scouting is useless

Twitter is down, so every chance he's actually signed and we'll have to just wait for teletext like the good ol' days.

Suspect a lot of players like Carrick and Fletcher that were less heralded by fans during their time at the club would be much better appreciated if modern analytical metrics were available.

Suspect Carrick would have been a standout in progressive passing, buildup metrics, interceptions and tackling. Was never a huge moments player but kept the engine ticking over and kept the ball circulating.

So its initially gone from being a broad agreement on fee to a basic agreement. I think Murtough and co. presumed Barca would take care of the deferred wages with the transfer fee but instead it’s clear that Barca did not have any plans for that. Laporta and Barca have always been the problem and are showing the world what a classless charade they are at the core.

Carrick is actually a very good shout as to when that kind of talk started to appear too. There’s a reason that despite him allegedly being world class he wasn’t getting a game for England at that time either.

Sell Depay, pay de Jong!

Jokes aside, it looks like we're paying more upfront so Barca appear to make a profit, the add ons are us paying Barca back when they pay the deferred wages. Now we just need to sort personal terms.

Barca don't want him unless he takes a pay cut and forgoes his deferred money!
Agreement made between too clubs on a transfer fee If reports are correct.
FDJ has to be the one who makes up his mind . Let's see but if you read between the lines Barca have to sell imo so who knows. If this hasn't been sorted by Monday. I'm UTD I pull out of it . And leave Barca try and sell him to another club?

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Yep

Spanish based journalist proceeds to parrot the Spanish press line. It would be good if one of these “journalists” thought 1) if FDJ had zero intention of leaving why would Manchester United agree a fee and continue to push for him? 2) if FDJ had no intention of leaving why would Barcelona agree to sell? 3) If FDJ had no intention of leaving why would Manchester United be telling Manchester journos he does? 4) And most important - if FDJ had zero intention of leaving why has ETH made him his key target and insisted we push for him AFTER SPEAKING TO HIM? They don’t use any semblance of logic themselves and just parrot the same bullshit over and over.

I do not have all the intel, but everything I understand says that Barca can not afford De Jong. I mean not even close. It is so bad they do not have the money to pay his deferred wages. In addition Barca have been recruiting heavily, but again so in debt they can not register the players. This knowledge of the debt so widespread Bayern want all of Lewy transfer kitty up front.

Is that off significantly anywhere?

So how does Barca keep FDJ?

There seems no way by my understanding. Honestly this is all down to deferred wages and just a standoff. Yeah I want FDJ, but regardless I see no way Barca can keep him based on their current state, even with a reduction in salary, plus the transfers they want.

Time will tell...

I'm going to personally ridicule each and every walk way poster when FDJ wins us the league and also wins the Ballon D'Or
