pretty level headed from Howson (apart from the clickbait title)

Yep, that is a decent analysis which is very likely to be the truth. I hope FdJ makes Barca sweat and cough up whatever they owe him. I have no doubt he will be a Man Utd player before September this year.

No. They will raise 520m euros. Original aim was I believe 600-700m. However they raised more from TV rights and no longer want to sell the merch
Okay, the report says they need €500m this season to save Barcelona, whatever that means, so I guess that is the minimum goal for them. Still doesn't change the La Liga salary cap issue though, unless that is based on revenue?

This is certainly the weirdest transfer I can ever remember. At what point does it end? I suppose we have to wait for Barca to break and pay the money so he will agree to leave.

Feel like a good strategy would be for United to carry on with its other business and sign the second midfielder to put pressure on Barcelona. We still need another midfielder anyways regardless of whether De Jong agrees to eventually join or not. Just De Jong alone still doesn't fully address the midfield needs.

He's bound to go on the tour - Barca are playing hardball, as are we.
People forget that he's still their player, and they can take him on the tour if they so desire. A fee being agreed means nothing.
Just because he's going doesn't mean he's going to play, plus as i say, if a breakthrough is made, private jets exist to get him back to Europe in hours.

You are aware we only have a limited budget? We can't just say screw it, lets sign another player and come back to this one when Barca have stopped acting like a spoilt child.
If we back off de Jong, then we'll go elsewhere... but i don't see that happening, and i read we're willing to play the long waiting game, even if it means the PL starting before we sign him

People here are weird. We have players like Bailly and Telles playing on our tour. I wouldn't expect these players to be with us beyond 1st September, but as long as they are there the club will use them. Same applies for every club and their players. People act like a player who went on a tour never got transferred later on in the window.

I believe DeJong is trying to force a stay in Barcelona as he says but keeping us on standby in case that doesn't materialize. They will definitely get rid my only worry is if PSG or Bayern were to show for him we'd most likely miss out on him.

A more experienced manager like Koeman would already have got it done. Xavi seems to be struggling a bit with this but eventually they will get rid as it's the only way they register those other players.

Not like we weren't expecting that... but people are going to go mad now, saying it's off and we need to walk away etc.

I think quite a few people here don't understand how transfers work, and until that player is sold, the selling club can use them however they want, and take them wherever they want

exactly, but better to rip the bandage off early and hopefully the doomers can get it out of their system in under 100 pages. Then normalcy can resume.

I mean, if Barcelona still owed me €18m and weren't interested in paying me back you could absolutely guarantee I'd be on that tour also.

He was always going on tour when Laporta said its Xavi decision. This will go on till the end of the window. We should take a decision to pursue this or not till then.

Hope we never deal with a scum club like Barcelona after this. We have got us into an unprecedented situation and we have no idea how to resolve that

True enough. I just hope we're being sensible in the background and doing the groundwork on the alternatives. Appreciate we'll give this every chance to work itself out but hope we don't leave ourselves exposed if it doesn't turn out the way we'd like.

Do my eyes decieve me? A post with sense haha.

Exactly, he'd doing what we'd all expect him to do. He's not going to kick up a fuss, he's not going to pull a Rojo or Martinez and kick off about not being able to leave. He's playing the waiting game and pushing Barca to the point where they get so frustrated about not being able to register their players they'd likely cave in and pay his wages

Memphis was also included despite now being surplus to requirements and they're actively looking to sell him...

Like others mentioned, we also have players in the preseason squad as well who'll most likely be shown the door by the end of the window.

This doesn't make or break anything.

We've had this experience recently too when Ronaldo travelled with Juventus and was even in their squad at the start of the last Serie A season only to be sold towards the end of the window.

Hold your nerve my fellow muppets , we'll navigate these rougher waters

Our midfield this year will be De Jong and Eriksen. There won’t be another midfield signing.
