I don’t think he’s been that good for last 12-18 months. Also, what’s the condition? The website is a bit crap on my phone

He's as much of an old school 'keeper as DDG. The point should be to move on from that.

Some context would be appreciated.
I meant he still has a chance to be first choice at some club or the other. Would be stupid to take deputy role at United and stay on bench till he decides to hang up his gloves.

Condition is that Leicester find a replacement so if they don't he'll stay for his remaining year. Leicester have agreed to let him go to Nice with a year left on a free. High earner apparently.

He will be 36 in the fall, so I wonder how many seasons he actually has left at the highest level.

There are old school keepers who actually come out for crosses and dominate their penalty boxes. What I'd give for one of those at United.

He is a keeper very much on the decline. I think Brendan will be delighted to have him decide to go on his own terms. Too big a legend to get into contention with about his starting role.

Would be fine as a backup keeper. Certainly not an upgrade on De Gea albeit slighty more comfortable with crosses. Inferior shot stopping and distribution though.

Some comments on Schmeichel from a Leicester forum:

I just think his inability to command his box has become more evident in recent years. I also find his incredible inconsistency with his feet infuriating to.
We have a chronic set piece issue that Rodgers promised to sort and Kasper is arguably the most important element that needs coaching.
Absolutely delusional to suggest that kasper has no blame in our defensive frailties this season, he never leaves his line it’s pathetic. The ‘theory’ should be a combination of both that Schmeichel is simply not good enough at claiming crosses or organising his defence to defend them properly. The defence has been patchy and inconsistent all season yet with his best defence in front of him we still concede corners, what’s the common denominator I wonder?
He’s always been fine as a shot stopper, but has always been poor at crosses and corners.
Have you not read the 100s of times where the majority of fans agree he is a good shot stopper. Unfortunately being a keeper involves an all round game.
I dont think our set piece issues go with Kasper staying as No.1 – he is a massive part of the problem.
Kasper is an amazing shot stopper and his commitment can’t be questioned but at times he doesn’t command his area as much as he should when coming out for crosses or corners he often stays close to the goal line then can punch the ball rather than catch.
If Kasper has intimated he is ready for a move I would happily let it happen after this season and take the opportunity to bring in a more commanding GK.
It wasn’t always the case, but it has become more and more noticeable how ill at ease - I’d even go as far as to say fearful - he has become when the chance is there for him to claim the ball in his six yard box at corners.
An exceptional shot stopper but you have to be more than that as a goalkeeper in 2022.
If we can't fix the set piece situation another way, we will simply have to look elsewhere. He's clearly never going to change his strategy of staying glued to his line.
He never came of he line for crosses since he's been here, he not going to change at 35 years old.
Get him gone in the summer. Commands absolutely none of his box and is one of the main factors to why we’re so bad at defending set pieces.
I don’t care how good at shot stopping he is when you concede 25+ goals a season from set plays and your goalkeeper doesn’t command his box then that’s an issue. He needs to go.
Great shot stopper undoubtedly. But doesn't dominate the box as he should, distribution is iffy too often and prone to silly errors as we saw today.
World class shot stopper. League 2 at commanding his area on his crosses.
And so on. If you think De Gea is frustrating at set-pieces, Schmeichel would drive you insane. Note where he sits relative to De Gea on the below:

Nothing new either. As some of the comments above say, he's been like that for years. Yet for some reason people who don't watch Leicester regularly sometimes seem to imagine him as some sort of commanding presence.

Tom Heaton is already a perfectly adequate backup keeper, is likely on a modest wage and will never complain about his role. Schmeichel's only six months younger than him too. Apart from some odd nostalgia over the family name of Manchester City legend Peter, I don't see why anybody would want him.

He HAS to play for United. He simply has to. 1 season, half a season, doesn't matter

Hes 36???

Jeez it doesnt feel like hes been around that long but then he made his City debut in 2007 was it?
In November he will be.

You are right he made his City debut in his early 20's in 2007, but then he didn't really play top flight football again until 2013, when Leicester got promoted. He has also made the vast majority of his appearances for Denmark in his 30's.

Robert Sanchez would be a dream buy next summer, not this guy. We’d face the same problems that we do with DDG now.

Made a lot of mistakes last season. Been an excellent keeper for them but would make sense for both parties to now move on.

Comes across as really smug in interviews. Always comes running out of his goal and having a go at the referees. I can't stand him.
He’s a cnut. I guess he got that from his dad.
