Yea, but I'm saying that this summer it seemed that Barca was where he was wanting to go and that was that. Chelsea's continued interest proved useful to him and his agent.
Yeah that’s fair. I had hope that it was a 50/50 thing, but we do not have anywhere near the pull Barca have, so yeah, shit sucks.

You aren't alone in that. We know the feeling over the years.

I’m currently going through the ‘well I didn’t want them anyway’ stage. Bear with me. I will head over and camp out in the De Jong thread shortly :wenger:
I have a sneaky feeling Chelsea will go for De Jong actually. 80m+ for a gem of a midfielder, Chelsea has the money and only has United as competition for him

There's a great video that outlines what Koundé would bring to either Chelsea or Barcelona.

Personally I can't see Barcelona being a great fit for Koundé. He's much better suited to Chelsea's back 3 and would dovetail very nicely with Reece James on the right hand side. For a reported fee of £55m, it just seems like such an unnecessary signing to make for a club who are supposedly financially limited.

There’s a girls scout badge you get for signing with Barcelona, only Madrid has a higher status to it.

Beyond that, everyone can see Barcelona are being financially irresponsible. You have to spend money to make money but this has gone well beyond that and I’m surprised UEFA isn’t reviewing every entry into their financial report.

I just cannot see it. They have a need for at least 1 and preferably 2 quality new CBs besides Koulibaly and they surely would want to add some more firepower as scoring goals has become a real issue. They mentioned a budget of 200M so I just cannot see them blowing over a third of that on a player for what is the strongest area of their team.

If only I were manager I'd have got Tchoumeni and Kounde through the door at united 18 months ago.

no-one in particular
Would be a bizarre move, that’s the only place they are extremely strong, and plenty of other areas to address.
Not really though. Jorginho + Kanté in their last contract year and both not in best form either last season. Other areas are more pressing, I agree, but de Jong could be a nice opportunity nonetheless.

It's not an opportunity when it's 40% of your budget and you've already spend another 40%.

Let’s play FDJ as CB. Oh yeah, we’re buying Kounde by the way.

Either FDJ is a fool if he thinks Barca really wants to keep him or he’s waiting for them to pay him the wages he’s owned.

I've not come across anyone who would do the former in regards to Frenkie. So we really shouldn't say he's a fool.

They seem to be untouchable given how much money they produce for La Liga. They will probably manage to get away with everything even if Frenkie stays.
The way they are with La Liga makes me wonder how powerful United could be if they decided to start swinging their dick with the Premier League

Many teams in it better than current United but I’m sure none of them line their pockets as much as United. United is always the story.

Chelsea fans must love Barceloana after hijacking another player from them

Any comments Chelsea fans?
To be honest I was never fully convinced with the Koundé signing to begin with. And that's not just me trying to cope with the fact we missed out.

Especially last summer I was quite happy the club pulled away from the deal last minute in favor of integrating Trevoh Chalobah into the squad when the cost of the Koundé transfer got too high. After the departures of Rüdiger and Christensen the links to Koundé resurfaced again in recent months and I was kind of starting to warm up to the idea of having him but even so I got nowhere near the same level of excitement about the possibility of buying him than I did from the Koulibaly signing.

Would definitely have taken Koundé but overall I'm not too fussed about the fact we missed out because I do think there are other good alternatives to choose from.

What I am very frustrated about however is the manner of how it happened. Koundé to Chelsea was transfer that was very much in the cards since the summer of 2021 and now it looked like a deal was finally in place and Barcelona even briefed the media about pulling out of the race, only to then make a last ditch effort and succeeding. Chelsea worked hard on the transfer and now all that work was for nothing and the new season is almost here so chasing after an alternative target means everything will now start from scratch which is not ideal because there are still some other areas to improve on, as well as work on some outgoing transfers too.

That said, I now hope the dwarf fails miserably at Barca. Or better yet I hope they can't even figure out how to register him. :nervous:

To be honest i was worried that you would get him, really strong and press resistant player.

I can understand the frustrations about working so long on the deal just to lose him to FC Circus!

Yeah they have a long line of players they cannot register,a real farce and players still wants to join them!

I don't think anyone has any real clue about barcelona's finances and why they seem confident signing all these players. Seems to me they plan to register them, somehow. But I'm sure they won't and go bankrupt any minute now.

They knew they will be backed by la liga and spanish government. La liga for obvious reasons without them there is no league. Spanish government do all to stop catalunya uprising again.

If they try to upset Barcelona things will go from bad to worse. So they will do everything to support Barcelona.

Araujo and Kounde are 2 fantastic CBs. Garcia and Christensen will be backups. They are assembling a great squad to be fair, at a price.

So FDJ wouldn’t make the squad as a CB even: Araujo and Kounde start, Garcia and Christensen on the bench
