Sir Alex, David Gill and Bryan Robson have been brought in to advise Richard Arnold on a wide range of club matters

We were promised a brand new structure 6 months ago with Rangnick at the helm. A forward thinking, modern set up.

6 months later we have Arnold asking Ferguson and Gill to give him a hand because he hasn't a scooby what the feck he's doing.

You've guessed it, embarrassing.

loads of stuff has changed recently

I mean this very thread is about something that just changed
People within the club are being shifted around but there's little evidence of any change so far. Everything above Ten Hag still reeks of dysfunction.

So Arnold decided to get Gill, Sir Alex and Bryan Robson in as advisors instead of Ralf being the consultant essentially. And people are complaining about it, classic caf

What’s dysfunctional in your view?

I mean it might be and it might not but it’s hard to know until they’ve had time to succeed or fail in this post-Woodward world

Would be stupid to take advice from a group of people that made the club what it is up to 2013. Absolutely
Any idiot can decide to consult a proven authority/expert.

It takes a wise man to properly take advice, though.

A less than wise man, using the advice of an expert, is usually still a less than wise man when all is said and done.

So...is Arnold a wise man? I mean - that's the question. Not whether Fergie is one.

Yep. Some of these idiots would genuinely rather he listened to the mastermind of upper mid level Bundeliga football than people who ran this club when we were literally the best team in the world.

I'm not completely sure, haven't been mentioned here. How old is Fergie?
Get this - it'll shock you so hold on to your socks. He's so old (80) that he was literally born when a world war was going on! (80 years ago)

So who exactly do people want Arnold to be taking advice from? Or were people happy with the Woodward "I'm an imbecile but I do what I want" approach?

Instead of berating him for giving his take on the situation (which does seem to be correct), why don't you break down his argument?

Unlike most of you, I am not living in hope. We have a bunch of deadwood players who we can't sell and the weak mentality in the dressing room still remains. This mentality will prevent us from winning trophies. The majority of players do not have any fight in them - something which is essential to win a trophy.

And for those of you who have forgotten, below is our form guide, for the last 6 EPL games that we played.
The players who took us to 16th place in the table below, are still at the club.

Now, instead of calling us names, try and break down our argument, in an intelligent way.

Well if you read the opinions on Murtough and Fletcher they want experience at board level. But apparently Fergie and Gill's experience from running United when we were on top isn't good enough.

Rangnick. He’s the only person he should listen to because he’s been such a great success everywhere he’s been and led his teams to countless honours, unlike Sir Alex Whatshisname.

Nothing surprises me any more. United will only reclaim top spot if/when we stumble across a really world-class manager as we had with Sir Matt and Sir Alex. Hopefully Erik is that manager and Sir Erik will be at least the the 3rd greatest manager of this club (caveat: my recollection of managers starts at Dave Sexton)

Would rather have kept Ralf.

I worship SAF like a god, but his continued presence at the club is probably more of a hinderance at this point.

Whilst we're at it, let's bring Ole in - he did some good stuff for us once. Oh wait, that didn't work out too well...

Dogleash at Liverpool, Lampard at Chelsea, Arteta at Arsenal, Fletcher at United. We asked Sir Alex for his advice on who his successor should be - how is Sir David Moyes getting on?

The club is in absolute dire need of some fresh minds and approaches - and I thought we were getting somewhere when we appointed Ten Hag. Bringing back the figures that led us to past glories isn't going to automatically translate into the same more than a decade later. I love the characters in the thread title, but the game has moved on.

Oh great. Old minds with accent opinion leading us into a new era. I can’t wait.

More value in the market and we don’t deal with agents round the corner.

Mixed feelings for sure. It seems we're always stuck looking backwards.

ETH's hiring felt like a move in the right direction, a promising manager with new ideas. I hope this isn't the sign of a muddied strategy.

Having said that, SAF and Gill no doubt are experts in their field. Hearing their advice is unlikely to ever be a bad thing, so long as those in charge don't rely in it solely.

So they wanted to consult people so chose some successful ones rather than a man who’s career topped out at a singular German cup and a Bundesliga 2. Sounds reasonable to me.

Absolutely no problem with people having a voice (particularly when the clubs relationship with the fan base is as broken as it is) as long as they don’t hold much power. Let them give opinions as long as Arnold/Murtough remain the people choosing the direction.

I'd say Fergie has done a tiny bit more then "did some good stuff once"...

I mean... He's doing pretty well for himself to be fair!

Fergie first wanted Pep to take over from him... Not that that excuses the Moyes pick, but still.

I would prefer if our attempts to run the club properly were a result of the people currently in positions of power at the club actually knowing how to do so themselves. As opposed to feeling the need to consult an 80-year old former manager and 65 year old former player, both of whom have been out of football for about a decade, on the basis that they used to be important figures at the club.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think clubs like City and Liverpool lean on nostalgia-expertise in this way? They seemed to figure out how to run their clubs via bringing in current-day professionals who were good at running clubs.

But whatever. As long as their advice is very limited then no harm I guess. Just keep them away from any decisions to do with the actual first team.
They are consultants not running the day to day operations, this is something people are ignoring and , way better to have them to lean on than the accountants Woodward had around him.

Other than Ole and Ronaldo what decision in the last ten years is "looking backwards"? LVG? Mourinho? Pogba? Di Maria? Sanchez? renewing dead weight for resale vaue? Someone make this argument make sense please.

Sir Alex and Ralph could have been fantastic. We should have moved heaven and earth to retain Ralph in some capacity IMO.

Sure - yes.

That's the key - use the advice properly.

ETA I've said this before, but Fergie's particular genius in all likelihood isn't something that he can impart to anyone. It isn't a "method" which can be learned.

But there are nevertheless certain timeless aspects of his way of doing things which probably can be imparted to others - and you're a monumental idiot if you don't pay attention when Fergie speaks about football.

It's all about the balance, as always.

Perhaps Arnold wants advice from Gill on how to run a first team into the ground before swanning off into the sunset in order to get on in his career.

Either way I don’t really care about this story. Buying good players and employing a manager who gets the most out of them is by far the most important thing of all. The former just isn’t happening and the latter remains to be seen.

Well for starters this transfer window has been a disgrace. The club have reacted with genuine surprise that Ronaldo wants to leave when they should've seen it coming and planned for it. Rangnick was brought in to carry out a long-term role in restructuring the club and was binned off for saying that we needed to spend big on new players.

Why though? Ralf helped build the red bull clubs two decades ago. No one else went for him and he ended up in Russia.

6 games isn’t statistically significant. 38 games saw them finish 6th, which is not great but a very different picture to what you paint and the year before saw them finish 2nd and reach a European final.

Your desperation to scrike is, you guessed it, embarrassing.

You are not wrong here. Looking at SAFs influence over the past 8 years, he really shouldnt be asked for advice anymore

No you weren't. What's embarrassing is to concoct nonsense like this and then throw a hissy fit if reality doesn't align with it.
