He does feel like a really nothing player. Completely anonymous since he's been on the pitch

Another anonymous performance. I think Pellestri touched the ball more then him.

Standard Donny. In his first season it was all his teammates aren't good enough to find his 1000 IQ postitions, in the second he wasn't given a fair chance, in his 3rd it will be he would have been a superstar if FDJ had come.

Say what you see, didn't look up to it even with the new signing optimism in his first season, Eriksen immediately looks like a player who can make contributions in a way that Donny never has.

But I thought it was solskjaer holding him back, and that he was actually the most talented midfielder in the squad

Wish we would ship him out. Waste of a squad place and wages.

What is he? He should be sold soon and let us recoup something before we get nothing

His only meaningful touch was when he had a ball kicked in his face. He couldn’t even control it. Feckin rubbish!!

Well, either way he is holding someone back, either a player or a club for buying him, also dont remember anyone calling him most talented midfielder, more like people wanted him to get more minutes because he could be shit as those in front of him in picking order.

Is he the most hyped player since Kagawa and Anderson?
Said it many times- we do this with lots of players and people take out their frustration/aggression on the manager for not picking a certain player only to realise there's a VERY good reason why that player isn't being picked that the managers are seeing everyday on the training ground. Fan reaction blames the manager for not picking the player as if he's the solution to everything:
  • Kagawa is an amazing player and the best no.10 in the world, Moyes is just too stupid to realise it
  • Peireira is fantastic, did Jose not see how good he was against Wrexham in preseason? Clueless has been of a manager
  • Donny van de Beek is brilliant, Ole is awful. We need to get a good manger in to get the best out of Donny
It's hard to think of any period of 3-4 games where Donny has impressed. heck it's actually hard to think of one game. Got a feeling he'll be back to Ajax before long.

He is pointless. Came on the same time as Eriksen and we all noticed Eriksen. In true VdB style, he offers nothing on the pitch and the game just passes him by.

If we get a new midfielder, all of Donny's minutes should go to Garner, I'm sure he'll make more use of it.

Well if he's not able to perform under ten Hag, then he'll never be able to perform.

This lad is useless. He's even more anonymous than McT, and that's saying something. He never gets picked for a reason, and it's so obvious when he gets a cameo. This will be his last season here.

Offered nothing but I've come to accept that that's his role in the squad this season. To be a nothing place-filler in the team for domestic cup games and the last 15 minutes of matches.

We should cash in on him. A nothing player, just too anonymous for my liking.
You have to just laugh at those who think he is better than Fred and McTominay.

Give him a few games under ETH. Hasn't shown any indications of class but on the other side, it's kinda pointless to judge him on a 25min cameo.
It's not like the rest of the team did much from the 70th minute onwards, aside from one Eriksen pass and one or two runs from the wingers.

Hope he get's a few full games in the EL so we can see something or move on.

Useless. The odd tap-in he will inevitably get over the course of the season is not worth keeping him for. Nothing player.

Looks like a blonde ghost and plays like one. Getting similar vibes between him and AWB. I have absolutely no hope of him making any meaningful contribution this season.

I was interested to see where he ended up playing with Bruno and Eriksen also on the pitch (a scenario where he should thrive), and I genuinely don't remember where he played. I don't think he had a single meaningful contribution that I can recall. It's just sad, because there is clearly ability there.

We've known for a while that he isn't good enough for this level, changing the manager isn't going to change the fact he's massively out of his depth.

I've been his biggest defender, and he has shown glimpses of what he can do in the very limited time he's been given over the past 2 seasons, but he's been woefully bad this preseason.

He keeps making runs in behind when he has no pace to make anything of them. I don't know why he doesn't go and get the ball off the defense. He has the technique to be a good midfielder but that's no good if you keep running away from the ball.

I know full well that it is really difficult when a manager doesn't rate you but he has to do much more with the minutes he's getting.

Looks lost, utterly lost. Even I would pick Mctominay over him now.

I said we should’ve cashed in on him when people, for some reason, thought he was good and it was us that was the problem. Now everyone knows he’s rubbish. We keep some players way too long when it’s obvious they’re not good enough relatively quickly. In Donny’s case, it was obvious at Ajax.
