Trust me, a third party paying off 17M you owe will always work great with your accounts.
I think the idea was it was going to come out of the transfer fee which they weren't keen on. To be fair us giving 10m more in guaranteed fee kind of suggests your right. But if that didn't sort it then why would you bend over backwards to help them yet again. Theres a point where everyone involved says feck it, frenkie stays on his current wages and we go elsewhere. They have good reasons to think we're stupid cnuts but it doesn't mean we have to be stupid cnuts. We need more midfielders regardless of de jong. Buy one, leave barca to stew in their own shit till january and go back then.

Sorry @crossy1686 , when did Athletic say he’d rather be in London? Source on that pal?
Mitten kind of said it on the Athletic podcast. He said he's spoken to people at Barcelona and he thinks Barca will put pressure on him to leave but he's now 50/50 on whether it happens (down from 60/40). Said United probably isn't his number one destination but he's certain if he did come he would be professional and not like Di Maria who left because he got the hump.

Can be found here if you want to listen mate, starts at the 41st minute onwards.

Exactly what you said right here.

Ten Hag knows what he's doing and he must have been told by de Jong that he'll come if the situation arises. Otherwise he truly is going to look like an absolute idiot and he's going to make the board look like utter fools too. I can't imagine, in his first window, he'd do something to make the board so pissed off with him that they take transfer responsibilities out of his hands. Plus look at Brobbey and Timber. Both told us no, we moved on sharpish and that was that. No messing, no sticking around in hopes of a mind change, just gone.
I honestly hope you two are correct. However this view is riddled with assumptions and motivated reasoning and I'm not optimistic enough to believe that this is the only possibility.

That actually get posted?

Either way, it does fecking suck balls for them the way he’s been treated, especially after his sacrifices the past 2 years. fecking scumbags.

Feel sorry for the pair of them who clearly thought Barcelona was gonna be their life :(

But…. They will be rich as feck, the North of England is miles better than so many idiots make out, and it’ll likely be 5 years tops. Even De Gea and plenty of players from much sunnier spots than Holland have enjoyed living and his a career here. And they can keep their home in Barca, and spend their entire post career 33-80 lives there if they like, and every Summer or move wherever the hell they feel like.

Of course he’ll care more about his career.

But you’re saying he could be “adamant” he aint going United, that isn’t the same as keeping his options open. It’s one or the other.
Don't use quotation marks for something I didn't say. It's dishonest. I said its possible he wouldn't want to join for whatever reason. Two different things though I suppose I could have added a "right now" qualifier to be more precise.

I said you guys were adamant that the view above isn't true. I don't agree with this notion. It's perfectly reasonable that he doesn't want to come - i.e. we are far down on his list of options - but given his current situation he doesn't want to burn the bridge with ten Hag or us. It's not one or the other.

You’re making something of a mistake again here, there’s every chance he’s told ETH that he has other destinations he’d prefer but he’ll be open to United if they don’t come in for him.

The idea he’s told ETH “absolutely not”, well, that’s clearly utter bollocks, we wouldn’t still be here now, so late into the saga without some assurances that it’s an option he’s very interested in.

So, for your scenario to be true, it means he’s bullshitting a man and manager he has a great relationship with, I find that extremely hard to believe.

With the way he’s being treated by his “dream club”, you have to wonder how all this shit is going to affect de Jong mentally and how it will affect his relationship with a future club.
It’s kinda like coming home from work and finding your clothes all over the front lawn, crudely shredded with a pair of scissors. Your high school sweetheart wife has changed all the locks and is already shacked up with a new bloke and is refusing to tell you what you’ve actually done wrong. Even worse she is even refusing to give you any money from the house you’ve shared the mortgage with over the past 5 years but is still telling everyone how much she loves you. Without anywhere to live you go down the pub for a pint and see a girl who’s always fancied and you had a fling with a few years ago. Or something.
How on earth did you get a look at my diary?!

He’d be burning future bridges with the manager he played his best career football under by far, seems very far fetched if it’s a “no Erik, for whatever reason”.

He’d be leaving Erik with loads of egg on his face if he for example joined Chelsea now.

See my previous reply.

In any case, I do hope he comes and I find the optimism in here refreshing and encouraging. Ridiculing other (equally likely) viewpoints, however, while expected in a forum, still rubs me the wrong way.

The only viewpoint I ridicule is the idea he’s adamant he’s not coming here, as do most in fairness. Not when his ex manager is the boss here, that’s just stupidly far fetched.

I think you’d struggle to find many that don’t think he’d likely prefer a move to City or Bayern for example.

Pretty sure it was that report that was put out last week,
It wasn’t Ornstein or Whitwell, it was the bloke who covers Spain and Barca. The whole Chelsea interest is simply a Barca brief to get United to stump up more, no Chelsea journalists like Matt Law have ever said a word about De Jong to Chelsea.

Lets be fair, i know Mitten has a lot of contacts, but the fact remains that he has absolutely NO IDEA what de Jong has told ten Hag and vice versa. He's probably well more connected than most journos, but i think this is a transfer where the only ones who know whats going on are those involved (United board, ten Hag, de Jong, Barca). Anything outside of them are probably being fed what those telling them want them to hear. Hence why there are so many reports being flung around in Spain. Thats my take on it anyway.

Unless Mitten has a direct line to someone directly involved, and by that, i mean privvy to the private conversations, he likely knows as much as someone such as Romero etc

He says that in the podcast. He thinks that Ten Hag has heard something positive from De Jong which is why they haven't walked away but he's also heard from *an agent (probably De Jongs) that no one is considering what the player wants here, and living in Manchester isn't at the top of his list of things he would ideally like to happen, but it still might.

I’m always skeptical of anyone claiming to know something who then says ‘it’s 50/50’ this or that will happen.

It’s essentially saying I’ve no idea and I’m covering all bases.

Possibly could be de Jongs agent, but i'd find it unlikely. I don't see why his agent would tell someone one thing then de Jong himself tell ten Hag something else? It'd make no sense. My best guess on that will be an agent who knows de Jongs agent, or getting an agents view on things. If living in Manchester isn't one of the things de Jong would like, i'm sure he'd have told ten Hag that and we'd have given up, knowing that if someone else came in, he'd choose them in an instant. It really makes no sense to me at all

Imagine his face on September 2nd after failing to sign Frenkie and somebody shouts to him to “get fecked!”

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Frenkie’s fiancée has just put a video of herself on instagram stories looking miserable as sin, followed by a picture of Barcelona saying “love this city”.

That’s the actions of somebody who’s just received a text saying “pack your bags love, we’re going to Manchester”
I just had a look at it. That food's disgusting, she'd be better having fish and chips at Tony's Chippy.

Plenty of quality food places in Manchester.
She'll love a good Fish and Chips, or even a quality Kebab or Curry on Rusholmes Curry Mile! Bet they don't have a Curry Mile in Spain!
