He needs to leave and United maybe a good place for him to find his form back. Honestly I was surprised United offered about 75m for him. I don't think he lived upto his reputation in 3 years in barca. He did ok, not terrible, but never lit it up. Sometime it just doesn't work perfectly. If I was in barca board, I will maybe pay his deferred wages and take the money from United ASAP. We save on wages and we have enough depth in midfield. Nobody else will pay 75m for him, that's for sure. When we have kids surpassing him in the midfield role, you know something didn't click properly.

He's under no obligation to tell ETH that though, he will do what his wife/girlfriend and agent says
No you're absolutely right, he's not, but you'd like to think he would do. If they have a good relationship as is reported, then you'd like to think that he'd be honest with him and tell him where he stands

What stops FdJ from coming out and saying he wants to stay at Barca, but he's not opposed to joining United, Chelsea or Bayern?
He’s genuinely just trying to stay at Barca, I don’t think there’s much else to it from his side. If they manage to force him out then he might get a bit more vocal about where he wants to go.

Chelsea are after Cucurela, Dumfries/KWP , Fofana - which would take their spending to 250+.

Another 80 for FDJ ? Fine - good luck at Chelsea.
Just cause they are linked with all of them doesn’t mean they will go out and get all of them.

Cracking volume of posts today lads. The Chelsea links are still bollocks. Until Matt Law reports it, then it’s nonsense

He's clearly not coming. Not to say I told you so but he'll sign with Chelsea after they submit their first bid while we've been begging him to join since June.
This type of comment drives me crazy..."clearly". There's no freakin clear anything with this. Its all perspective. I could make a case he's clearly coming if I picked and chose whatever media reports I wanted to make the case.

The facts are:

- We want him
- There are a lot of complicating factors involving funds between FDJ and Barca
- We continue to want him

If we move to the "seems"...:

- He seems to want to stay
- Barca seems to really want to sell him
- There seems to confidence from us we'll get him

We have no confirmed idea how FDJ actually feels about joining us though...just a lot of speculation. You could make a case either way based on the speculation. So nothing is actually "clear". I could easily see a scenario where FDJ gets his deferred payment and immediately agrees to the transfer and happily moves. There's been plenty of speculation I could site that says he wants to play for ETH and would take a move. So GTF out of here with the "clear" crap.

So as I understand it, technically those deferred wages aren't yet owed, and if he leaves they will never be owed because they were rolled into the payment for the next years? This is Barcelona's argument?

We think it is, we don't really know though

Exactly. Even then the new ownership group is going to want to start off with a large investment like Roman did when he first bought the club 20 years ago. Don't think they'll get fofana and doubt Dumfries will be as expensive as cucurella, they can easily pull of a FDJ deal.

We're still believing the none sense that he's waiting for Barca to pay his deferred wages? Laughable, if that was the hold up it would've been sorted a while back, he's stalling to see if someone like a Chelsea, Bayern or PSG come in for him, it's pretty obvious.

Of course they are. But so are the defiant and/or presumptuous posts about him going to United.

I don’t expect a chelsea bid but I do expect a baseless article along the lines of “Chelsea tried to hijack deal” as has been reported for about a further 10 players.

United should cut their losses and move on. If Barcelona are saying one thing publicly and privately doing the opposite then they’re seeking a bidding war. If what they’re saying is true, he isn’t coming.

The situation APPEARS to be either;
A) United sign a player who doesn’t want to play for you.
B) You get dragged into a bidding war
C) You pass transfer deadline day and get no player
D) He stays

I don’t see a scenario where you’re coming out of this with a a decent result.

This one is dead in the water. He’ll stay at Barca to earn his cash in a team that has no real power to shift him.

What an aggressive waste of a forum saga.

We’ve already agreed a fee with the club

Things sometimes APPEAR differently to the reality.

If he genuinely didn't want to play for united under any circumstances we would know and United would have moved on.

I know I have said it before but I really do think it would be hilarious for him to go to Chelsea after reading this thread

Yes. His deferred payments are part of his wages which increase every year over the next 4 years. The main issue is his contract is over the new wage cap. I believe we can register all players at the cost of another lever but as I've said many pages ago, Barca don't want Frenkie, financial situation or not, he has no place in Xavi's 433. People laughed and said Barca need to sell him in order to buy, we need the fee they said - incorrect. The same is said about registering players.

The delay in this transfer is down to the player not wanting to leave. The media inviting Chelsea interest is NOT Barca trying to start a fecking bidding war (which I still see posted almost once every 2 pages), a fee has been AGREED between the 2 clubs. You can shit on Barca for how they dealt with the situation fair enough but this delay is all on the players side. Frenkie wants CL football and his agents are feeding the press trying to drum up interest from CL clubs.

Also, I do rate ten Hag highly but this is a massive stubborn red flag if it's Frenkie or nothing. There are so many midfielders who could improve United for half the price of Frenkie yet due to a seemingly total lack of flexibility, he only wants Ajax/ex-Ajax players. Frenkie is being very overrated on this forum. This isn't an Mbappe level talent or a world beater who will drag you to CL positions.

This transfer saga could cost ETH before he’s even got going,John Murtourgh and Richard Arnold will look to pass the blame if this does not get done,

ETH is putting himself under additional pressure with this saga, if FDJ goes to Chelsea for less money it proves that his pull as a top manager is not all that in the same way the club pull is not all that but more importantly he put all his eggs in one basket when other players were and are still available.

If you offered me the choice between De Jong and Rice I’d choose Rice. He’s a better fit with the other personnel we have in midfield. I wouldn’t be gloating if we got De Jong because I honestly don’t rate him anywhere near as high as this forum does.
We need a playmaker: FdJ is a wayaaaaay better fit. Rice is too high a price.

Hilarious fun to see McFred killing it, eh?

I think I've read hundreds of posts saying we would have walked away if he didn't want to join us since this saga started.

For him to them go to Chelsea and not us yeah that would be hilarious

Guys, the deal is soon to be done. After such a long period without real news, this is the last push the dirty Barca tried through their propaganda system to lure us to panic. They won’t be successful and they are running out of time. I think within a week, it will be done.
