If Chelsea get him so be it. I would honestly give youth a chance than panic buy someone for huge amounts. In fact if we do end up buying the likes of Neves then what ETH said about moving only if the right player comes along is pure bollocks.

I think the criticism of the club with this particular transfer is unjustified. The club agreed the fee well in advance. Personal terms have not been an issue at all. There’s literally nothing else the club could have done in order to get him. Yes you can argue we could have put a deadline in place but then there would be complaints that the board didn’t back the manager.
We'll know that's total bullshit if Chelsea can come in with a bid now and get it snapped up in a week or so.

Only way if chelsea sign him,he has to cut down his wages significantly. No way we offer 450 k to him as united offered. If he is willing to cut his wages he will do that and will stay at barcelona.

There is no logic in this rumour otherwise someone forced to make him believe he loves chelsea more than his dream barcelona secretly from young age something like in inception movie.
Have we feck

You're a happy go lucky kinda guy, huh? That's good. Most aren't.

Most have been fed lies and BS for years while our club has been feckin run into the ground. Mauled.

We're a shadow of our former selves. People are upset. Don't be surprised that they're negative right now.
I'm not surprised at all with the negativity. It's to be expected after all the crap we've gone through in the past, but as it stands, to me, not much has changed.

Another club is trying to sign a player we're in for, they stand as much chance as we do and at the end of the day, the player will decide. There will be a lot more factors at play than just CL, Location etc. It's out of our hands as fans, so theres not much we can do than just strap in and experience the highs and lows as they come.

I'm talking about De Jong though, is he a united fan? You have to look at it from his perspective.

Recently winning the CL is a decent indication that the club is competitive.
So as a non United fan?

United are the bigger club in every sense. United and Liverpool are in that upper tier of English clubs when you consider history, prestige and reputation.

Playing under EtH, playing with Ronaldo, playing in front of 75,000 each week, good money, buying in to being part of the project, wanting to be the main man?

If he’s only bothered about CL football and living near London then feck him. Who cares?

The Chelsea development is fairly recent. If they've come in late and he would rather go there - EtH needs to know.
The first Chelsea links were over a month ago. People are only acting like this has just happened out of nowhere because it's finally been reported by someone that everyone agrees is reliable in Ornstein.

I think all this Chelsea talk is simply a gossip that is being spread by Laporta (by feeding media) to bump up price and make MU to pay more. There is not much time left for Barca to make a deal (10 days?). It's like a poker game - who blinks first.

It’s humiliating for the club now, we can’t hide from that fact.

We chased a player for months, who had no interest whatsoever in moving to us, and now he will ultimately join a rival.

Nothing has changed at United, and it’s just embarrassing.

Will he not be concerned that he will just end up a squad player at Barcelona?

This would make sense if you weren’t jumping on every negative story about de Jong for the last 3 months? Not being funny but it is a bit rich.
Not even having a go, it’s just there has never been anything tangible about the move to Utd for a long time. No news seemed to mean good news yet here we are.
Still hope we sign him but it never felt real to me.

I will dip in to say one thing. The way people say “Surely FDJ would never string ETH along like this!” And “They will have been in constant communication throughout this entire thing” with such confidence really cracks me up.

You would swear ETH is his father or something
He was his manager for 2 whole years. He practically is his dad at this point.

Will not happen.
Barca still owe him €17M which they do not want to pay
Barca could accept a bid from every club under the sun, still doesn't mean he'll move.

Chelsea would have to be in cahoots to keep stum on that. So barca beat Chelsea to a player, then use Chelsea's name to make united up their offer, but at the same time make Chelsea looks like they have missed out on a target again? Makes sense

Haven't United already agreed a deal with the club? The hold up seems to be on these much-talked-about deferred wages/payments that FdJ is owed. The word is that he doesn't want to leave Barcelona, and certainly not without his owed money.

I'm not sure United chucking cash at Barcelona is going to make a whole lot of difference at this point. It's real on Frenkie and where he wants to go, and also on Barcelona and these deferred wages. That seems to be where we're stuck.

If the issue is between de Jong and Barca, then Chelsea being in for him makes no difference to that. The issues are still going to be there. If them issues get resolved then it's a straight shootout between United and Chelsea. Where does he feel he'd progress better?

There's no news about a move to United because de Jong as his team have said nothing at all for the past couple of months. Everything had been media speculation so we don't know what's actually being said and the sorts

That's correct if you consider that Barcelona and De Jong haven't been negotiating an exit strategy for more than a month.

We never agreed personal terms with de Jong.
Yes we didn't, but my point is the personal terms were never the obstacle. We were reported to be offering same as what he was receiving at Barca. The issues with this transfer were all due to external factors outside of the clubs control. There are many times we can criticise the club, but I just don't think this is one of them.

I trust ETH to sell FDJ this gig.
Chelsea under new owners isn´t a sure bet by any stretch of the imagination.
This is just to pressure us to go all in.
If Reddy says it´s a possibility I will go with her.
She just said Neves and Renato Sanches were our back ups to FDJ yesterday despite Sanches never playing as an "anchor" as she put it before. Since then Sanches has been confirmed to PSG. Why exactly is she considered reliable?

It makes no sense for United to still be after FDJ unless he or his agent made it clear to ETH that he wants to join. If he ends up joining Chelsea then it's true that we were pushing for a player that didn't want to join. Forget the embarrassing part because honestly I don't care, but it's somewhat negligent to waste most of the summer trying to sign a player without assurances that he wants to join. Only time will tell.

The other aspect of this is Barca want both Azpi and Alonso from Chelsea. Who knows what kind of tinkering could be done to make the deal more attractive?

It's not though. Because the issue of Barca and FDJ has been going on for weeks. It had been reported a number of times that Chelsea were waiting and monitoring the issues to see if they can be resolved. They must have received some encouragement in that it could be resolved, hence they've officially started negotiating. It's not like Chelsea have magically done something that we weren't able to. Still no guarantee Chelsea can get him as well. But all along, both Utd and Chelsea had no control over the speed of this transfer.

I hope chelsea do Barca in this de Jong saga and make them believe we will pay them 100 mn euros for his signing and his deferred wages but make sure it will never reach them.

De Jong will stay there and they can't able to register their players like raphinha kounde and lewa. Any one can dream.
