I can't see that happening at all. I doubt Messi will score 16 goals in one season in the champions league nowadays, might even take him 3 seasons to get that. Ronaldo can afford to miss one year.
He absolutely cannot afford to miss one year and he knows it. It would probably take Messi 2 seasons but the point is if Ronaldo misses a year then he will be almost 40 by the time the next one rolls around. Who knows what his form will be like then or which top club will be willing to employ a 39/40 year old poacher? Hence his desperation to get as much as he can now.

I reckon we would happily mutually terminate his contract but for pressure from sponsors to keep him onboard.

Goldbridge was busy saying the club gave him permission and is now claiming we are trying to force him out. Forcing a player desperate to leave out.
That’ll all be forgotten next time he’s brought up.
Goldbridge would rather engage in conspiracy theories than admit he was wrong or criticise Ronaldo.

That’s the key thing here. Footballers watching from the stands can and do leave early all the time, I’m sure. Pissing off before the end of a match you were playing in is basically unheard of.
Apparently he did something similar at Juventus after getting subbed.

Let us hope for the same outcome in this sorry situation
Actually, I double-checked as I remembered it being an acrimonious split: actually spent another two years bitching around with the 80s version of Laporta and once his contract expired he joined Real.

So don't hope for that, other than a 40yo Ronaldo at City or Liverpool.

Messi had 5 CL goals last season. And he's not getting any younger, either. And he's still on the field with Neymar and Mbappe.

And yeah, United absolutely could and would sign him for a single season only to play in the CL.

Even when Ten Hag comes out and calls it unacceptable, this dweeb embrrasses himself by insisting his conspiracy rants were true.

What new signings have United made that will make them a challenger for the league? If anything Spurs & Arsenal have gone ahead of you with their signings. Malacia is literally the only signing that makes sense in terms of overcoming a weakness. Eriksen & Martinez don't cover your gaping holes in CM, RW & RB.

Ronaldo may have every bad quality out there, but one thing he's not short of is self-confidence.
Transfer window isn’t over yet and it’s a process. Would love Ten Hag to be a success since a lot of our rivals really underestimate the power of our club these days.

United with a top manager can easily win trophies period. Even with a toxic one we finished 2nd and won trophies not too long ago. We haven’t had a proper manager for literally 4 years now that’s been the problem.

Chelsea funnily enough are on the decline can almost promise that now their sugar daddy is gone.

Stay. At least he'll provide some insight on ETH. This is an acid test for our manager.
ETH is now reported to have just said Ronaldo’s conduct was not acceptable for everyone on the team. Good on ETH, rip Ronaldo a new one.

Would be great if another poll said "Should Ronaldo be at Utd next season"

I just realised that United went from 112 goals in all comps in 2019/20, to 120 goals in all comps in 2020/21 to 70 goals in all comps in 2021/22. This is why I don't understand (and have never understood) this tortured rhetoric about United being unable to cope without Ronaldo or the idea that his goals are somehow crucial to the team. By every available metric he's made the team worse.

I still marvel how a whole bunch of rats have come out of the wood work to claim cr7 is a dressing room cancer and is sapping morale. Without any actual evidence to back them up over the span of his 15 year career. Wanting someone to leave should never make you desire to wantonly rewrite history and reality itself
this... absolutely

I think most elite athletes have "somewhat" inflated opinions of themselves. Don't tell me Cantona didn't! But to be honest, I really don't know any more than anyone else. Do you have your employer's best interests at heart or are you in the job for yourself? Just because it's football and they are wildly well paid, in the end there is no difference.

But I do wish Ronaldo would let his skills on the field do the talking
Arrogance in itself isn't a bad trait to have as a footballer. With Ronaldo it goes further than that though. Any player that believes he can basically do what he wants with title to no repercussions in my opinion shouldn't be part of the squad. Under a manager like Ole or Ralf he could get way with it but under someone like ETH it's only going to end one way and that's badly. He needs to go for his own sake and for the sake of the team. I really don't think that's debatable unless ETH is given instructions that Ronaldo has to play which would open up an even bigger can of worms going forward. Personally I think the negatives by far outweigh the positives.

The waining star who doesn't believe in his own mortality. Lived life as a genius on the pitch, bit of a simpleton off it and got away with it due to talent. It feels like he wants away and is at once trying to challenge ETH as the new coach with his silly antics. Just get rid as soon as possible.

Juventus were glad to be rid of him and now united look to do the same. There’s a reason hardly any other clubs worth their salt want him.

I'm actually furious with him.

The timing of this is unbelievably selfish, We've got what I believe on the little I know and have seen so far, is a great manager and coach, it's a chance to finally have a proper rebuild and go again, some players out, new players in, positive environment with everyone pulling in the same direction, changes to the hierarchy, it feels like this might finally be the start into the right direction that we've been absolutely crying out for for years, and he does this and causes all this noise and negativity. I can't believe it.

He's not the future of or for United anyway and the future is what we're trying to lay the foundations of right now.

Get him gone ASAP.

Legacy well and truly tarnished.

Ronnie is on 500k/week, presumably minus 25% for United missing out on the CL. He should act like a man and perform for his club which pays his wages. No other club wants him, or at least no other club can justify taking on that wage liability.

There may well be a club in January who's still in the CL and who will need a striker. He won't be cup tied and can join that club then.

I don't necessarily disagree but what I'd like is ETH to be able to talk Ronaldo round. I'm sure SAF did it with some players: give them one chance but if they didn't commit then showed them the door

The CR7 circus is distracting to the team. Trouble is no-one will take him on his wages, so we are stuck with his wages. Bit of a quandary for ETH. I reckon he will be on the bench on Sunday . If he starts then I think ETH will have lost, CR7 proving he is bigger than the club, and that is unacceptable

ETH just got there. He doesn't have credit in the bank yet to pull that off

Talk him round how, exactly? Tell him it’s not cool to create a massive drama every time he’ll dropped or subbed off? How do you even have that discussion? How do you know he’ll accept that he might get sidelined over the course of the season? We all know how his mind works by now. Ronaldo is absolutely convinced he should start every and finish every game he wants and anyone who disagrees with him is a fool.

Yeah, I'd rather we didn't risk jeopardising ten Hag's debut season by fooling ourselves into thinking Ronaldo might have a sudden and drastic personality shift. Best for both parties that we part ways.

Of course he does. Hes the manager. Its not a case of credit, its a case of one person being the manager and the other being the person who takes orders from the manager. The only reason the manager wouldn't have the credit is if his manager says so. In which case I imagine EtH would tell them to feck off.

Exactly.
I especially like what ETH explained, simple and clear, the plan and roadmap,
1. Construct the team and only add new players who are the right ones; if impossible to find, develop by ourselves
2. Has a good concept
3. Grow and develop as a team (playing and management) with togetherness
