Colwill is supposedly going the other way too. Yet another talented youth CB not getting a sniff at Chelsea

Well at least Brighton are losing a key player days before the season! He's a good player though, Chelsea will have 2 excellent wing backs in him and James.

So that's Koulibaly, Sterling and Cucurella for Chelsea. They won't go for Frenkie too. They still need a striker too.

As annoyed as I am at losing Colwill, there’s already Mount, James as starters and CHO and RLC as rotational pieces. Now you have Gallagher and Broja joining the first team this season, so 2 new academy players joining the first team.

I’m annoyed as feck about Colwill but in recent years no one can accuse Chelsea of not integrating academy players. There’s just so many excellent ones, people tend to focus on the ones that don’t get a chance and lose sight of the ones that do.

Weird signing considering he'll be behind Chilwell. For 50 million you'd expect him to start surely?

I’ve not got any memories that stand out about this guy, but is he worth £52m? He’s surely primarily going to be a sub behind chilwell? Unless he’s someone who can play in a back 3?

Like with Neco Williams, there's another PL club spending £20m on a Championship level player.

He will compete with Chilwell. I imagine they will rotate once Ben has made a full recovery.

Obviously he’ll get some minutes but chilwell is surely still first choice. Big PL games, champs league games you would expect chilwell to start when fit.

I wonder what the most expensive signing has been who was brought in to provide “cover”. It’s surely this one?

Ben has not recovered yet. That puts Marc starting for now. I can’t see Tuchel putting Chilwell out there until he is fit. If Marc trains better than Ben, he will start. To compete in all comps, teams need this kind of depth. Boehly has said when he was buying the team he would invest to make the team competitive in all competitions.

Its amazing how we have produced Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori and Levi Cowill yet somehow kept the worst one in T.Chalobah.

Chilwell is a much better player though so if they're both fit surely he starts every week?
I dont think he's much better than Cucurella at all.
If anything Cucurella is better. Lets see how Chilwell recovers from his injury too.

Really weird one from City’s point of view. Looked like they had it all wrapped up and all of a sudden it just went dead
City didnt want to pay 50m. They had it wrapped up with the player, not Brighton. They tried to low ball them and were not close to the asking price. It was pay 50m or move on. Chelsea went in and offered 50m. Quite easy.

What I like most about him is the aggression he plays with. He’s quite different to Chilly in that respect and I think it’ll see him preferred in certain big games against top teams.

I think Chilwell's a much better player than Cucurella personally but we'll see how they both get on. Chilwell's injury isn't an easy one to recover from.

Yep I get that, just really strange that they balked at the fee, seemed like a super Pep signing.

Colwill need play time at this stage more than anything. Why we want to keep such talent on our bench. Of course some argue why not give him chance. He is not ready yet especially play for top 6 team he surely not. Good luck for his new challenge.

Whether he’s ready right now isn’t the the question. With reasonable playing time he could very quickly develop into the sort of player Chelsea would drop £60m on. Buy back clause, if true, somewhat eases that annoyance but we’ve now lost 3 brilliant CBs in consecutive windows. That’s depressing, regardless whether people think he’s ready for Chelsea or not.
