Exactly.
I especially like what ETH explained, simple and clear, the plan and roadmap,
1. Construct the team and only add new players who are the right ones; if impossible to find, develop by ourselves
2. Has a good concept
3. Grow and develop as a team (playing and management) with togetherness
100%

We should get rid and sign a #9 who either already at, or just coming into, the prime of his career. Someone who will press and work for the team, but also bang in 20 league goals per season.

If we can't find a player like that, then we will unfortunately have to keep him.

Im all for asking scouts to find players, but strikers coming to their prime is common knowledge and if we cant think of any its probably unreasonable to demand that.

Sadly the second part of your post will probably happen :(

Would it be cheaper to keep paying him 350k a week?
You tell me?

Ultimately the club will want a replacement. Without one why forgo a transfer fee?

Additionally Ronaldo would likely want paying out wouldn’t he? Even more so if he can’t find another club.

I'm no economist, but it sounds like terminating the contract would be best for both parties. We won't get a transfer fee regardless, and we would end up paying £350k a week to a player who might cause more problems than solutions.

I wanted Ronaldo out the moment he started shaking his head or slip out of the pitch once he got substituted. No matter how good a player is that is bad as players need to get rest and tactics sometimes need to be changed. Its unacceptable when things are done by a 37 year old player whose considered as a club legend by some idiots. That makes the manager look silly, it adds toxicity in the dressing room as players would start thinking that such behaviour is acceptable. We've seen that happening throughout the past year. Bruno is complaining more and delivering less, Maguire's skin had become so thin that you can almost see his bones and now Dalot of all players is walking away at half time. So yes Ronaldo should be sold irrespective of what he does on the pitch and something needs to be done so we'll stop this United legend myth.

However I am not so sure that we should allow him to go on free. We've got too many players who think that United owe them a living. Sanchez took his pound of flesh when he moved to Inter, Henderson is shitting on our club which is an early attempt to force himself out of the club and Ronaldo is throwing the dummy out as well. So in my opinion United should be quite vocal about it. If Ronaldo wants to go then he'll bring 20m on the table by a certain date and he's out. We won't allow him to go on free and we're certainly not allow him to ruin our already shambolic transfer summer window by him walking out during the last day. Be honest with the guy and make it public. That would throw the ball in his own court as not leaving means that no one values him enough (including himself who can pitch that sum himself) and we're doing him a favour for keeping him here

I m not worry about CF options. Martial is starting to find some of his old good Martial back.

United has been strongly linked with the promising upcoming Sesko. And Patrick Schick is still at Bayer Leverkusen. Not a top club like Bayern who will never sell theirs best players.

So really good CF replacement for Ronaldo are realistic to get out there. If Ronaldo is leaving.

I m more worry for Frenkie De Jong transfer saga. Hope it doesn't take so long. Too long and he is not coming. Then really short time left to find alternative for De Jong. It will lift the price of De Jong alternative option up. Because the seller club know United is in need to alternative option. Late in the transfer window is not the most ideal time to do transfer.

United XI line up might be really good. I m satisfy with the current XI line up. But United is lacking the squad depth quality? Why. To be honest. None of United youngster a ready and good enough to strenght and boost United champion league chance.

All of Hannibal, Zidane, Savage, Diallo and Chong. Sorry to say. They are good, but not top class talent at their age. Good but not good enough.

If United can get Sesko. Then CF options are good without Ronaldo. Not RW and CM squad depth. Because with 433. Eriksen is a starter, not a squad depth player. Then United have just youngster there in central midfield. Worry.

So who pays Ronaldo out? We’d be liable unless you think he’s going to happily waver that when he doesn’t even have another club to take him?

Sounds far fetched to me

I just realised that United went from 112 goals in all comps in 2019/20, to 120 goals in all comps in 2020/21 to 70 goals in all comps in 2021/22. This is why I don't understand (and have never understood) this tortured rhetoric about United being unable to cope without Ronaldo or the idea that his goals are somehow crucial to the team. By every available metric he's made the team worse.
Wow. Show this argument to all these Ronaldo fanboys and blind media who make it seems like Ronaldo is paramount to us scoring goals. This only shows that he has indeed affected our team output negatively. This team is capable of scoring loads of goals but spent last year bending to Ronaldo's will at the expense of the group.

Yes, agreed. I don't know who is out there really, aside from the obvious (and probably impossible to acquire) options (Schick, Lautaro, Osimhen etc).

I do know that relying on Martial (one league goal in the last 18 months) would be a mistake, good preseason or not. So it looks like it will have to be Ronaldo.

Had Greenwood been available,I wouldn’t have had any issue with Ronaldo being sold this summer. But Greenwoods un availability and our wafer thin options up top mean that we have to keep him for another season.Let him throw his toys out of the pram, but we can’t afford to oblige him.Let’s keep him for another season,I”m sure he will be professional once the season kicks off…

In theory we could reach an agreement with him to terminate the contract.

As in - mutually agreed termination, he's a free agent (but he loses a year's wages from United).

For a "smaller" club, like - say - Sporting it would make a big difference if he were a free agent: whatever transfer fee United would be entitled to (market price) would be a lot of money to them.

(Just speculating wildly, of course.)

Oh of course but I don’t see any player agreeing to that without a club lined up?
Would mean he gives up a couple of dozen millions. No way in hell, if Utd want to get rid of him they'll have to pay him out. Better option might be to give him a little extra to make him happy again for a season and collect the 20 goals. Let him destroy Europa League.

No, that's true. If there isn't any interest - as in zero - he obviously wouldn't want that.

It's also possible that he's keen on the money (that year of wages) for all I know. But you'd think that if he's desperate to get out, he'd be willing to take a hit financially.

I see we've reached the stage where Roanldo is to blame for the war in Ukraine, the rising cost of living and fuel prices in the UK... it's Rooney/Carrick all over again

The players who scored those goals in 20/21 were Bruno (28), Rashford (21), Cavani (17), Greenwood (12), McTominay (7), Martial (7), Pogba (6), and James (5). That's 103 out of the 120 goals. Of those players, Cavani, Pogba, and James have left the club, and Greenwood is on the outs, so that's 40 goals gone. In that sense, the team is not "capable" of scoring those goals because it's not the same team anymore.

I don't know that anyone legitimately thinks that if not for Ronaldo, Rashford was going to have a great season. Fernandes' goal contribution dropped dramatically, but half of that drop was simply not being the penalty taker.

I love how people simplistically talk about taking "goals out of the team" when talking about individual players

As if team goals are just down to the individual - and not result of dynamics, style, tactics, systems, fluidity, form, morale, partnerships, patterns etc etc

I suspect a Ronaldo with no transfer fee and reduced wages (reportedly he is willing to do this) suddenly becomes an attractive option for many clubs. The sky reporters were discussing this yesterday and said that Ronaldo with a £15m fee plus his wages is a £65m investment. You won't see many teams take that plunge now, no matter how many shirts he could sell.

The only buzzword missing here is synergies but I guess that's too mid 00s.
Goals aren't all down to the individual, but if you remove all the individuals that have a history of scoring goals and replace them with individuals who do not have such a history, you are going to score less goals.

club>ronaldo.
Keep him, happy or not, as he has no real suitors anyways so I cannot see where he thinks he would be.
He will play and he will want to score and be "the king"
If we get a reasonable transfer fee (which we wont) then we can send him packing. We paid for 2 years (3 really) and dammit we get it.

Martial's reportedly done his hamstring mate. We knew it would come, so yeah, we need a quality replacement in pronto.

Let's not forget we'll be losing Ronaldo and Cavani in the same window

Yes, that's clearly possible.

For something like a possible Sporting deal (which he seemingly doesn't want, that should be said), this would be a very plausible scenario.

Ronaldo is a billionaire so why doesn't he not just buy out his man utd contract - he is then free to go wherever he wants and we can use the money towards getting a new striker

What's even funnier is people would have you believe that if you remove Ronaldo from our team last season you can automatically remove 24 goal, which would put us at 46 goals total.

Seeing that Martial is injured he surely has to stay as we've run out of attackers.

Juventus removed Ronaldo from their team last summer and they went from a 77-goal season in which he scored 29 goals, to a 57 goal season. that's a 20 goal deficit. Real Madrid removed Ronaldo from their team four years ago and they went from a 94-goal season in which he scored 26 goals, to a 63 goal season. That's a 31 goal deficit.

That's actually a pretty solid relationship between "take Ronaldo out of your team" and "lose a shit ton of goals."

When Juventus added Ronaldo to their team in 2018 they went from a 87-goal season to a 70 goal season, when he came to United we went from 73 goals to 57. So there's also a solid relationship between "add Ronaldo to your team" and "don't score as many goals".

This is a good counter. It just tells us that it's more than just 1 player affecting a team's performances positively or negatively
