I’m sure if someone came up with a YouTube video of a church scoring goals, there’d be people on the Caf wanting us to sign it :D
If someone kicked a ball against a traffic light and it bounced off nicely, we’d be shouting to sign it up!

United are going to have to pay over the odds now that the buzz has increased and the season is upon us.

United still has a lot to learn about running like a top club, panic will increase and they will end up with another Maguire situation.

It’s 2nd time I’ve brought it up. You avoided the question about 5 times. Just saying.

It’s a very relevant point as they both had a great first season in the premier league and were the same level of “proven” and performed very similarly statistically. The point being the jury is still out on Toney to do the same in his second season. Going from Brentford to Utd is just as big gamble if we are looking to pay £60m for him. That’s more outrageous than spending 40m on a promising youngster.
I avoided it because it's one of the most stupidest comparison I have ever seen. Pukki is 32 and will be retired by the time we see them back in PL again while Toney is one of the actual options we are considering.
Every transfer is a risk but it's much less of a risk to get Toney for 50-60 now than a kid for 40 from Austrian league. This kid won't help us this year. Period.

Can't believe I have to explain this atleast 4 times.

My god. Im talking about you avoiding your suggestion of signing a proven striker for 40m. It’s all good and well moaning about a potential signing and it’s cost without having a better alternative suggestion.

The best you came back with is sign Toney for £60m cause he’s proven in your eyes despite only having one good season in the prem rather than sign Sesko for £40m. I can’t believe we have to keep going over this.

RBS literally did it with the player in question…

Seems to work fine for them. They also make a profit on players every season. seems like a very handy model.
Not exactly. Liefering, RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig have the same owner. Liefering is used for RB Salzburg U18s loans.

Let's agree to disagree and move on. You think it's okay to spend 40m on an unproven kid while I don't. Let the time tell who is right and wrong.

And you think it’s better to sign a much older and still unproven striker for 60m. Yeah I’ll disagree and move on.

It's United, United can never sign a player at that age that's coming from somewhere in Europe for less than 30m, on top of that. There's clubs interested, no buyout clause. You have Dortmund, Leipzig, Chelsea, United, PSG I think 40m is the minimum you'd pay honestly and even if you are buying potential you are paying more as a PL club, and forward position.

Chelsea just signed a 18 year old Villa defender for 20m. This is not 2017-2018 anymore, young prospects go for a lot of money these days. Sesko is a great prospect and he's 19. For that position there's what? Haaland, Nunez had a good year and look at what Liverpool paid. Not saying Sesko is anywhere near the same level right now but Nunez is 23, Haaland is 22. Sesko only just turned 19.

Would we sign a player like Greenwood for the same money if he didn't do what he did right? we'd probably be paying 70m, so I think it's genuinely warranted. He's in the mould of a Lewandowski, has all the attributes to be a top striker but of course its not certain but you take that risk.

Buying the player isn't my issue. Spending 40m this year on that kid won't help us this season - that's my point. I would rather spend 50 -60 on guys like Toney than sesko , because we are woefully short this year in striking department.

Normally I’d take football games with a pinch of salt, but I’m fully convinced of the value of FM data. They nail it so often. When I use to play it I bought so many youngsters when I’d never heard of them in real life. I’d hear about them in real life about 2 years later. Their scouting and research is amazing.

But yeah the fact he’s regarded as a potential world class talent on there is a good sign!
Still waiting for To Madeira, Cherno Samba and Tonton Zola Moukoko to get their chances.

It's all about perceptions though and I did mention like "Toney".

In any case, just to justify my point (Source is Athletic)

His expected goals (xG) number of 12.63 was the fourth-highest among forwards in the division. He also managed the second-highest expected assists (xA) figure for his position, 8.38
He was ninth in xg but a third of that xg related to penalties per fbref. Better to look at non penalty xg. In that crazy championship season he had, he scored a huge amount of penalties and way over-performed his xG. Toney is not a bad player but he’s not the one if you want goals.

his fee is high, but due to his position and our needs it's always going to be, even for a player with such limited action. In recent seasons we've had short terms deals for older players such as Ibra, Ighalo, Cavani and Ronaldo, we need to start building and looks towards the future. Number 9's are a dying breed, Liverpool and City have basically played without one until this season where they have recruited well. I think if we leave this, this lad's price will increase,. We've seen that with Rice and Neves, but players now at a much higher rate than when we were linked just a couple of seasons ago. It's a risk, all signings are to a degree, but if we want top 4, we can't go into a season with Ronnie and Martial as our strikers, and that's even if Ronnie doesn't feck off.

Yeah instead of short term fixes let's look at a long term one who obviously isn't the finished article but has got raw talent.

Next year he'll me 80m and we'll be without any forwards.

I'd rather spend 60m on sesko than 40m on toney, infact id stick with martial over spending 40m on toney.

Yeah lets disagree.

With Chelsea rumoured to be in for Auba, they may have the edge over us where they can secure a deal for Sesko and loan him back to Salzburg while still having Auba as a short-term option. It makes sense for Sesko where he isn’t thrown into the limelight straight away and could develop a further year without the pressure.

We could do the exact same thing with Ronaldo

This is madness. Toney will never be good enough for Utd. Sesko is young but he looks miles more talented and like he could become genuinely brilliant. I’d honestly take him at £60 million over Toney for the same price.

I doubt RB Salzburg will sell this teenage sensation for £40m. If Utd are seriously interested better to just pay up even £60m and move on. I know wait till next season after he scores 40 goals and the price doubles and then Real Madrid or Bayern Munich enter the race. What a mess United are in now they're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

As for Toney, I wouldn’t pay even £30m. He’s average and we have them in abundance.

60 million great British pounds on Ivan Toney. Have you gone completely bonkers?

He's a name I put forward in the thread on strikers, but there's no way I could justify that.

We are only 2 days from PL. If we had gone in early , we could have got him for less. We will overpay for any player we sign now.

Again, Toney was an example. I said players who can come in and do the job immediately rather kids for future.

I'm not sure there are loads of compelling options. Who would we nail our colours to the mast and think they're going to score lots of goals for us for sure?

I'm sure this kid can "do a job." Is he going to score 20 PL goals...not a chance. Doubtful even 15. 10 would be good. But he'll be an option that can provide something and he has massive upside. Spending 60 million on someone that's just okay, squad filler, wouldn't be a good long term plan.

If you’re good enough you’re old enough. I’d rather sign someone with the right attributes to make an impact. From what I’ve seen Sesko has attributes that mean he can contribute immediately.

No, we don't have the back up players. Nobody that is at his level. I've heard people talking about Belotti alot and basically, he's just not good enough. There is a reason he has spent so long at Torino and why clubs are not rushing to sign him now.
Apart from Roma that is! Good old Jose!

Are we buying a backup here or a starter?

If buying a backup is it not best to follow Man City's lead and buy a prospect from South America for £15m like Alvarez, who will be less of a gamble?

It does make you wonder why we haven't already gone for this player already, if he is/was already on United's radar. It was so obvious we needed players in the attacking department with Cavani leaving (and Greenwood). Could this not have been addressed sooner?

I can't get over the mention of Toney. I realize that it was likely a random mention but it's like suggesting Richie Lambert, Danny Ings or a better option Chris Wood.

Also would've cost a fraction of the price we are being quoted now before Adeyemi was sold.

Strongest ability of Toney is taking penalties. Fine, but we don’t need reinforcement in this department, Bruno and Ronaldo are decent enough taking them, any improvement here will be just marginal

Nkunku comes to mind first, but there were many, I just don't remember, we get linked to so many players, who can keep track.
Moussa Diaby, Coman, Digne, Rabiot, Soumare, Sakho, Guendouzi, Moussa Dembele, Edouard and Adli as well as Nkunku came through PSG’s academy as did Anelka and Evra further back mate.
