Even if he’s an elite manager, I just can’t see how he gets that squad into the top 4. First XI has glaring weaknesses and the depth isn’t there. An atrocious window so far and nothing appears to be imminent. As a bare minimum he needs 1 more DM and 1 more forward. That’s just to make us in some way balanced and competitive for a top 4 battle.

Not sure about the timeline. I. distinctly remember seeing us linked with him, watching very impressive highlights and then seeing him go to city what seemed like a month or two later. Quite possible City were already in advanced stages

Rangnick's claim of giving united a shortlist was well after that Jan window though
A five second google would tell you you’re dead wrong about Alvarez. He signed for City in January ffs. When Rangnick was the United manager. The shortlist Rangnick claimed was blocked was for the winter transfer window. You’re intent on blaming ETH for blocking those transfers when he was still the manager of Ajax. Which is mental. You’ve completely misremembered the sequence of events.

What on earth has Ronaldo done to deserve not being given a run out like this?

A 60 minute run out for the CF who got us 20+ goals last season. Can we just, please, stop fecking around and put pride to one side. The alternative is Elanga as a false 9 for feck's sake. I can't with this club anymore.

Folk are giving too much cover to Ten Hag. We've chased after De Jong to no avail, chased after Antony to no avail, he doesn't have an alternative to De Jong so we're stuck with Fred and McTominay and his alternative to Antony is Ziyech for heaven's sake.

And WHERE is the RB?!?

The board, Murtough, Arnold, Fletcher et al are PATHETICALLY incompetent but that does not absolve Ten Hag of his faults and his persistence with specific targets. If you can't make it happen with Neves cos' he "isn't the right player" then you ain't gonna make it happen with McTominay either, mate. This isn't the Eredivisie.

Digging one's grave here and Murtough, Arnold, Glazers are handing him the shovel.

Deadly.

What's the issue?

Not starting our best CF or Ten Hag going after specific players who aren't attainable for us, doesn't want alternatives and thus us having to fall back on McTominay and Elanga?

You think Ziyech is viable option for us?

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
We finally got a proper manager, someone capable of being a successor to Sir Alex and we go and have the worst transfer window ever. We get the right manager and give him one of the worst squads we've had in years and certainly weaker than last year. Such a massive shame we just can't do anything right.

It’s better than last year actually. Before last season started, our core players had overplayed for so much. Without a proper break and pre-season, they were almost directly thrown into new season. Their form dropped and injuries spread among them. Almost most players who left this summer had not played much or not at all last season. The biggest loss compared to last season in early stage is Greenwood though, but we have Rashford now.

I think we underestimate the impact of the loss of Greenwood, just because we aren't supposed to talk about him. We had been grooming him for 4 seasons now just to be the main striker at United.

Then poof! in the beginning of a new season. No Plan B to turn to.

At least for me, I didn’t. I remember I had a post at the beginning that loss of him is disastrous. I feel many have the similar view but as you said it doesn’t look good to talk about it extensively.
Our early stage of last season were good. He made big impact, but the steep drop was so sudden and seemly no way to turn around. It’s no coincidence as we know some info now. I speculate the divided dress room was formed at that time.
Still, as you implied, the loss if him is indeed huge as we all see. We are still unable to find replacement.

It's an incredible loss. He was the big star of tomorrow's Manchester United. Add to that the lesser losses of Rashfords and Martial's level and we've gone from "one Sancho away from a dream Frontline" to "just Sancho".

I had expected Charlie McNeil to step up by now but clearly, the academy coaches don't think he is ready. To have a kid with a scoring record like McNeil had --- he would have been the natural replacement for Greenwood.
He still has a window of opportunity left being only 18. Greenwood was already in the 1st team at that age.

But stats and eye tests are quite different things.

True. Has McNeil trained with first team? I haven’t seen a video with him in the first team training yet, but there aren’t many video available though.

Searched for the training videos but he doesn't appear in any of them. I suspect he will now that Martial hasn't recovered from his hamstring issue. He has to go on loan either this upcoming season or definitely the season after. Potential Jaime Vardy plus (better all-round play)

LVG went to Rashford in similar situation (also Martial picked up some injuries). ETH probably will fancy a similar move ;)

I am just not sure if McNeil is the sort of player ETH fancies.
I think ETH likes to have option of target CF who is physical, mobile, flexible to switch positions cross and vertical. That role is an integral part of press, counter-press, draw defenders out in final third. I don’t know if McNeil is ready in a brutal EPL game, even Garnacho is unknown for it but he did show traits he is probably not far away from last Sunday’s game.

There is a Ronaldo pic in one of the other threads and McNeil is in it so I think he's training with them.

Aha, that means ETH has already planned and worked on the potential lifting of some youngsters to develop and contribute in that position. LVG lifted Rashford in the situation he had no forward to pick just several days before the match day.

If so, martial's legacy will be that of being a gateway or enabler. First rashford and now another new striker?

What on earth has Ronaldo done to deserve not being given a run out like this?
Besides skipping out on almost our entire pre-season, whoring himself out to every club in Europe and leaving the stadion early in his first and only game so far?

How would the fans feel if we went in to the second season only after Dutch and Eridivisie players as well ?

The part where he went on strike and didn't turn up for pre-season training or the tour? Publically getting his agent to do his bidding and offering himself to just about every club in Europe so he could leave? Leaving the one pre-season friendly he did turn up to early?

The guy is toxic, and not at all worth the effort. He'll probably get 20-30 minutes off the bench vs Brighton purely down to the circumstances, but he is by no means the answer. We need a new striker.

I remember everyone saying exactly the same thing about Ralf Rangnick and then proceed to pile on him at the end of the season.
Because he was exceptionally shit probably...

I don’t understand the criticism. We’ve so far signed Malacia who looks brilliant down the left hand side, Eriksen who almost had two assists in his first minutes on the pitch and Martinez who looked like an improvement in defence.

I can’t believe people are criticising signings, who are improvements on current squad members, just because they come from a certain league, club or country.

:lol: You’ve clearly lost the plot haven’t you? He’s literally said he wants to leave the club and skipped preseason. If you want a new regime to build culture and structure… diva behaviours CANNOT be tolerated. He doesn’t want to be here when ETH is trying to build long term success. He deserves nothing less than the boot. I’d be saying the same thing if it were any of the legends of this club. You are NOT bigger than the club. Feck all those that think so.

He deserves nothing less than the boot yet Ten Hag wants him to stay?

And you think playing Elanga as a false 9 is the preferable option?

Are you guys children or scorned lovers? He wants to leave, he's not leaving as the coach wants him to stay thus start playing him instead of Elanga up top.

This is why we really need to be patient with ten Hag. Hope fans don’t jump on him after a poor run of results. We need to give him time. I‘m aiming for 6th just to try and curb disappointment. That and some nice football whilst showing he improves players. Hopefully next summer we can back him fully then.
