The current contract that is the one that is legally valid.
You've said it a dozen or more times now, it's a shit excuse and I don't know if you believe it but if you do, wow...

Can't pay? Rewrite the contract and it's all ok?

Run out of cash again? Rewrite the contract again.

It's such an easy (lazy) 'out'. If it was United, I'd be slating them.

Their is very public issues with Barcelona and braithwhite, FDJ, and pique and I would not doubt their are more.

Braithwhite is refusing to leave until his wages are paid.

Barcelona are racing to be able to register their players in the league. This whole situation is complete joke.
Barcelona want to sell or give the letter of freedom to Braithwaite. The player to leave Barcelona wants to collect the 2 years of contract that he has left.
This is very different from how Barcelona doesn't pay their players.
Anyway it is still being negotiated, to draw conclusions you have to wait until the end of the market.

FdJ ended his contract in 2024 and was extended until 2026 with new figures. These figures are being paid when on the date indicated in the contract.
These are facts.

When is the last time anyone did this and won anything?

(and no, it was not Barcelona 08/09)
Barcelona isn’t entitled to win trophies, and frankly they don’t deserve to be in contention for them while they are in this financial mess.

they could’ve rebranded themselves as a Spanish Dortmund for 5-10 years while they chipped away at their debt.

They could build a squad that consistently finishes top 3 in La Liga through youth players and cheap/free transfers from players who would take a pay cut to play there. With young stars like Fati and Gavi, and free veterans like Kessie and Christensen, they could achieve that level consistently. Do that, and sell the young stars when you have to until the finances clear up. They wouldn’t be winning trophies apart from the occasional Copa del Rey, but they would be on the road to a better future.

A club offers a player a million a week, he signs.

can't pay and agree a new contract at £500k per week.

pay for one week, then can't pay. We agree a new contract at £200k per week.

Pay for one week then can't pay so rewrite, etc etc etc. Always "deferring" rather than not paying.

Factually paid per the latest contract version. But it's just a shite way of acting (grown up kids playing real life FIFA) and nothing will change the mind of 99% of non Barca fans.

(Edit. It was United and my mate said "we've met current contract", I'd tell him he's an idiot")

They are going to publicly beg Pique to take a wage cut, aren't they?

Well, don't accept and stay or go to another club.

Pretty sure Pique will make sure he'll get Laporta's endorsement when he leaves the club... He has the club by the bollocks.
Piqué comes from a wealthy family. He also has a lot of different businesses. He doesn't need the money. But he does want to be Barca's president one day so I think he will help the club. He already had a meeting with Laporta to talk about it.

He has a lot of money, he doesn’t need any more, that would be selfish.

Of course. In fact he should give some to barca to help register and then offer to pay Bernardo Silva"s wages. As a true Barca fan would do. Clearly if he doesn't do that, that shows how greedy he is. Unlike the barca fan who is not at all greedy when he wants the club to sign Raphinha/Lewa/Silva etc.

In fact I think they should all be paid a flat 10000€ per week. I mean that's a lot and enough anyway. Except the new players who should be paid what they ask. And then a season later can revert to 10000€/week like the rest as they truly love the club.

Piqué is no ordinary player. His grand father was Barca's president and he wants to be president some day. The presidency is won in democratic elections. It's a great opportunity for him to promote his image.

The big question here is: Does Barca as a club really have that world wide following? They were always a big club, but not as exceptional as in the last 10-15 years, which correlates quite strongly with the Messi era. And it correlates with the development that many fans are more fans of individual players than of clubs.

So in other words, does Barca have the following or do their superstars?
Barca as a brand do for sure:

Although their situation is laughable, imagine if our owners showed half their passion and backed our new Manager

Don't confuse self interest and a desire for self advancement with passion.

Sure, they have a lot of followers. But how many of them are fans who would actually carry the club through dark times without true superstars and big success? Would they create enough revenue to be able to return to the top (like it happened with Liverpool and might happen similarly to United)? I still have doubts about that, and obviously even some Barca fans posting here have similar thoughts.

End of the day the DoF/President is an employee of the club. I don't see anything wrong with trying to be the best out there, if in turn it makes the club better? Atleast they are trying to get things done?

How do you want a team and players to function with that circumstances?
What circumstances you mean exactly? The false and lying social media narrative barca doesn't pay their players? Astonishing, how many people bite on such bullshit. I always wonder how those "journalists" get any klicks and traffic to make a living with defamation. Then I read those kind of posts. Maybe you should go and watch some training videos barca posts daily. There you can see how the team "functions".

The Athletic had an article about Barcelona's finances and interviewed various agents of players, who said there was an atmosphere of distrust due to a belief that the club has leaked contract information in the past.

But they're gambling the club's future away for quick fixes now. He's just looking out for himself.

What i find most bizarre about this situation is how the Barcelona fans are responding. I'd be absolutely disgusted at my club and the owner for what they are doing.

Why don't teams that play them protest? It would send a strong message.

What are other teams supposed to protest?

I mean, if what Barcelona are doing is certain to bring them financial ruin, I'm not going to protest them. I'm going to encourage them to keep at it.

Similar to the outrage against the ESL. I'm fed up of how morally corrupt football is and how owners and clubs get away with shite like this.

I'm surprised too, I don't like Liverpool but I wouldn't want their club to go into financial ruin due to an incompetent and morally corrupt owner. This is a football issue as much as it is a Barcelona issue.

The difference is that Barcelona do not have an owner. They are owned by the socios. They voted for Laporta. He put these "levers" up for a vote and they voted in favor of them too. It's not happening to them; they are making it happen.

It's kinda bizarre, I mean those wage caps exist to protect clubs from themselves and Barca just circumvents it by selling away their future earnings to artificially raise their wage budget. To me, it just looks like they delayed the inevitable crash by doing this.

It's got nothing to do with other teams, but if Spain has a footballer's association (something equivalent to PFA) they should absolutely be taking Barca to task over this.

Signing players, then publicly putting pressure on them to accept lower wages by playing the card that the club is on the verge of financial catastrophe, all the while signing expensive players and splashing tons of cash on other players...
It's immoral. And in my opinion, it should be illegal too.

According an article from Marca, 60% of signings in La Liga haven't been registered yet. Not great.

Yes, by owner I mean people running the club. It's a bad look for football and La Liga.

It has a lot to do with other teams because they compete in a league system which consists of salary limits and a world football system consisting of FFP. Also they're signing targets from other teams / selling teams are worried they might not get their money.

Exactly, it just makes a mockery of rules when you can circumvent them by doing shit like this.

I'm surprised that there is no evidence of agents advising their players against a transfer to Spain. In your opinion, do the clubs have to fall on their faces first or will it all work out (for this transfer period)?

I don't think many players will end up not registered.
A lot of them are Spanish, or have lived in Spain for a while, and sometimes are on loan or transfering from one Spanish club to another.

Yes, the means is not right but you cannot deny the intention to provide their manager with the best resources. We have the means but lack that intent.

Barca are guaranteed CL football every season basically. The league is weak compared to the PL. The climate out there is much nicer and its a better lifestyles than England and Barca are still a massive draw for various other reasons.

United haven't been at the top for over a decard, we aren't in the CL. We have to persuade players to join us over other better clubs in Europe let alone better clubs in England.

Its not even remotely fair when it comes to the two.

While I agree with your 1st paragraph, the point would be that United have let the situation get here wrt to the bolded part. That lack of intent along with incompetence and you have us right now.

What you are forgetting is that United are currently competing in the most competitive league in the world, with 2 of the best teams in the world and another 3 teams that are very strong and well financed as well. Barca are still basically in a two horse race most seasons. Even if the likes of Atletico Madrid have a good season, they are usually not going to kick on and replace Barca/RM at the top outside of that one season. Its much easier to fall into obscurity in England at the moment.

We have also spent a fortune over the past decade. Its just been poorly spent. That being said, Barca have blown us out of the water in the wasted money stakes.

United need to spend sensibly for a few years and incrementally build under a top class manager. We have that manager and now we need some patience. Throwing £200m+ around this window wouldn't be any guarantee of any success.

Barca are playing a silly game and I fear it will backfire but only time will tell.

I wait a bit before forming an opinion. Their strategy could be proven right but it also could be proven wrong in the mid to long term. What I'm pretty sure of is that nobody posting here has the necessary background information to judge right now.

- Selling of future revenue: Could make sense if they believe the short term impact enables them to grow at a rate that outperforms the interests they have to pay but it could also severely limit their growth potential if it doesn't
- Signing players for huge fees but trying to postpone salary payments: Could make sense because a transfer fee buys you a player license which from an accouting perspective is an intangible asset, so no immediate costs involved. Instead those are scheduled over the contract duration. What they do affect is the cash flow but to my knowledge these kind of deals usually involve a bank loan that allows the buyer to pay in rates while the seller receives everything immediately. But it would make sense to buy players and lower the salaries of the ones who are already there since a) they are still on higher contracts and b) in contrast to transfer fees, wages a) are actual costs and b) don't have any resale value

What I always find a bit funny is the stuff about competitiveness. This sport has been about spending power for decades. It's never been a fair competition. I'm very much for a universal salary cap (not bound to your revenue but a general one) but that's not going to happen because the other big clubs are just like Barcelona: They try to stay at the top by every means possible because they now that you can't catch up once you've lost that spot for a few years.
