No talk of levers. No deferred payments. Less hate or self-loathing of your own club. I always remember every start of every season was discussions of transfers and optimism.

Now the favourite pastime is to moan that the sky is falling. It cant be healthy.

One of the takeaways of Fever Pitch (movie) is that we love football because every season in August is like a re-boot or hot starting your life. A form of escapism and yet it felt real. The rollercoaster of life -- the elation, anger, hope, disappointment all packed into 10months. Then the great thing is we can re-boot and start again every august.

But we seem to have 50% of the folks here, being miserable gits that seem to be casing the destination rather than enjoying the journey. Maybe its the social media generation where affirmation and instant gratification are the primary objectives.

Thats changed. In that sense, the old days are much better, and certainly a lot healthier mentally -- filled with hope, ambition and optimism.
I know, right!

I mean... you can choose to be positive or refrain from writing pessimistic things and in the end be disappointed (a few times). It seems like some people are protecting themselves from disappointment by being constantly pessimistic and are actively spreading their negativity.

The transfer window is still open, the Frenkie saga is (I hope) for some reason still open. The (few) new guys look decent and up. Ten Hag looks a proper manager...

Of course I understand expectations neednt be too high, but come on, no need to be all doom and gloom.

In a way it's a pity to get so much informatijn fed to you. Back in the day I was just looking at the squad at the start of the season and that was it, no dragging drama's.

And worst of all is to read how people just randomly believe everything that is thrown on the internet.

I think its the age of fear so they need to post negativity to find people to pacify them or they could be reaching out fr help indirectly or unintentionally.

I much preferred the teletext days. Some times deals just happened without warning, cole ti United for example. Now people make a living just on making up transfer rumours or putting their spin on someone else’s opinion. Many times stories are picked up or even made up from what they read in forums. It’s all a bit much.

What?! The sun came up again? I thought when I closed my eyes last night that was it! But no, we have another day of this!

Barca can register all their signings now
I’m glad you’ve cleared that up.

This claims otherwise, but it sounds too crazy to be true:

According to 'El Partidazo de COPE', Barca are still unable to register their new signings in La Liga. The reason for this is that Barcelona are violating the league's financial fair play rules with their current wage bill. Jules kounde signed the contract with FC Barcelona until 2027.1

It’s been a huge test this transfer. You need grit and determination to stay in the game. There have been times when I questioned myself, when my resolve was pushed to the limit.

But I’m still here, and I still believe. Maybe that makes me a fool, but I will go down with the ship if need be.

The upside is that its so much easier to connect as we do here.

People just need to look for the positives in life rather than use the negativity to wrap themselves up like some security blanket.

It's odd that you mention Fever Pitch. Let's just say that the book doesn't exactly support your teary-eyed nostalgia towards the football fans of the good old days.

What impressed me most was just how much most of the men around me hated, really hated, being there. As far as I could tell, nobody seemed to enjoy, in the way that I understood the word, anything that happened during the entire afternoon. Within minutes of the kick-off there was real anger ('You're a DISGRACE, Gould. He's a DISGRACE!' 'A hundred quid a week? A HUNDRED QUID A WEEK! They should give that to me for watching you.'); as the game went on, the anger turned into outrage, and then seemed to curdle into sullen, silent discontent. Yes, yes, I know all the jokes. What else could I have expected at Highbury? But I went to Chelsea and to Tottenham and to Rangers, and saw the same thing: that the natural state of the football fan is bitter disappointment, no matter what the score.
In case someone isn't familiar with the book: the game he's talking about took place in 1968.

Stumbled across this tweet. This ain’t good news! Apparently Harry Redknapp has been told from someone at the very top at Utd that de Jong wants to go to Chelsea. :( I’m wondering if it’s Fergie who’s told him this.

Apparently haven't they cocked up their lever money? They thought they had enough to register everybody, but it turns out they're around €100m or €150m short?
Not sure how they managed that, but anyone who says United are a poorly run club really need to take a look at Barca!

Oh no... big Harry has spoken! :(

Because i'm absolutely certain that someone at United has spoken to him and told him that we aint getting him. Yep, makes total sense!

I’m still dubious about it mate but it would be very strange for Redknapp to say that and be completely bullshitting. He’s saying some one high up at Utd has told him this. My guess is Fergie.

Was the interview conducted through his car window?

I think its how they did their calculations of how much revenue they will receive/book from the Levers.

Yep.
Harry Redknapp I think would have been told something quite credible if he's putting it out right now so openly.

If someone from the very top of Utd is telling things to people who go out and blab it to the media, then that guy needs to be sacked first and foremost.

Sounds like he’s in a bottle!

Normally I’d take opinions with a pinch of salt but the fact he says it with so much conviction that he knows for an absolute fact he wants to go to Chelsea is concerning. He would look like a real idiot if he just made it all up and he went to Utd.

Still hopeful though!

It’s ‘arry. He’s trying to inflate the odds on us so he can make a few quid.

Why would Fergie speak out the transfer knowing that it would get back to the press? He's not doing any favours for anyone there is it.

Also, if he wanted to go to Chelsea, then we'd have backed off as soon as their interest became apparent. I'm literally believing nothing until it comes from United or reputable reporters, thats both positive and negative stuff

Obviously we want reliable updates from tier 1, but when someone who’s quite established in the game says something like that, it’s worrying.

He’s got nothing to gain for bullshitting about it as he doesn’t really have a dog in the fight.

Im taking what Redknapp says more seriously than all the tweets we’ve been seeing.

If that's De Jong's decision and 'Arry of all people knows about it, then you have to assume that United are also aware. If so, I'd expect us to start very publicly backing away from the saga soon (presumably via some "never wanted him anyway", "we actually preferred Neves all along" type briefings to the press). Let's wait and see.

I was just guessing it was Fergie due to his good relationship with Harry.

But whoever it is, I’m not doubting Harry has spoken to someone high up in the hierarchy.
