Where do people think he will play? I don't see how he starts / if he does, will Chillwell be happy playing second fiddle?

I haven't watched him that much but whenever I did he was quality. Expect him to bench Chillwell.
Left cb in a 3 or left wing back, just like he did for Brighton last year when he won their fans & players player of the season.
What I meant in the OP was do you expect him to nail down one of those positions? Do you think Chillwell will be happy being second choice?
Chilwell was in the reserve Xl for our double friendly vs Udinese. He's likely going to take his time recovering from his injury and frankly even before that he was good but not untouchable good.
The price is slightly mind-boggling for a number of factors. He's had one good season in the Prem, we've seen a significant number of players having an exceptional first season before fading.
The price tag is huge considering he's a LB. I get that full-backs are becoming vital parts of teams especially with the way Chelsea play but they already have Chilwell who's one of the best LBs in that league. Obviously if Chilwell didn't have injury issues, I doubt they would have signed him. But what if both are fully fit for the whole season, I can't see Chilwell being happy with 15-20 games and I can't see a £62m signing being on the bench for the majority of the season. I've heard that he can play LCB but you don't spend that much an then play him in a secondary position where he's barely featured.

I think initially at least it’s going to depend on whether we bring in another CB or not. If we somehow pull off the Fofana signing I think he’ll rotate with Chilly. If we don’t sign Fofana then he’ll be our starting LCB.
No idea and no. Him and Chilly on the left flank is an interesting thought.
We saw what happened to Chelsea's season when we lost Chilly and James. We need depth and Cookie is versatile.
Spending this much on Cucurella just tells me Chelsea aren’t sure/confident about where things are with Chilwell’s recovery. There’s no denying it’s a huge overpay but I guess it is what it is.

Think he's absolutely quality. Lot of money for a LB but genuinely think he'll establish himself as one of the best around.

Happy for Brighton. They’ve done well there.
He's a better player than Chilwell IMO and will start. Chilwell is also injury prone seemingly? So again, not helpful for him. But Cucurella might play as LCB in a 3 with Koulibaly and Thiago Silva, and then Reece James at RWB and Chilwell LWB.

If I was a Chelsea player I'd just be quietly gutted every day.
I'd rather we don't revise history because we got a shiny new toy. Chilwell was one of our best players in the early months of last season. His injury and that of James was the major reason our form went down the drain and we never recovered that momentum.
I like Cucurella and I think he's much better than Emerson and gives us more than Alonso, even if a bit overpaid for. Competition is key to success especially at a big club, so with Chilwell's continuous recovery from injury in mind signing Cucurella is a great move. Let's just appreciate it in that sense and not go overboard downplaying the importance and talent of Chilwell. Peace.

I guess we'll see if he turns out to be the next Luke Ayling but I personally doubt it.
Roque Santa Cruz springs to mind. Didn't he get nearly 20 goals at Blackburn one season? Joined City during their heydey and fell off the face of the earth.

He had a really good spell after Tuchel changed to inverted fullbacks but he also had a really good start before reverting to inconsistentcy for the rest of that first season, lets not forget Marcos got the nod early on under TT and at the start of last season. Was the spell last season a genuine breakthrough to world class level or another purple patch? We'll never truly know now but it's irrelevant in this context as we're unlikely to see close to that version for atleast a season.
Think Chilwell was going through something early on, Tuchel alluded to it at the time, and I remember Chilwell speaking about his mental health struggles towards the end of his time in Leicester.

you’ll love him he can play seamlessly as LCB, LB or LWB. He has a fantastic attitude and will always look to progress. He will be very popular!

Outside CB in a back three is a totally different ball game. Many ways to use those players in an attacking sense. Many of Azpi's best attacking contributions came in that area and then there was Wilders overlapping centre backs for example.

I am ignorant when it comes to Brighton players. Is he this good or is this some sort of „selling within the league“ tax coupled with Chelsea being desperate or why did we (Bayern) get de Ligt for less?

2) he had only been there 1 season and thus had 4 years left on his contract
3) they didn’t want to sell

5) Clubs know we are desperate for defenders therefore try and fleece us.
They've also over paid because they didnt want Brighton to have a buy option on Colwill. Its almost like buying two players for the price of one.
