We need him plus a no. 6 and to think that a DM was the actual priority this season. What a mess

ETH doesn't really play with a DM
He is soon going to find out how challenging the toughest league in the world can be. A prime Matic or Kante would have prevented both goals yesterday.

Lets first hope Frenkie signs. Fingers crossed.

Where the feck have you got 450,000 per week from?

That’s what he would receive this season at Barcelona including his deferred wages.
Hence why won’t leave before getting his 17 million.
So we must suppose that he won't be coming anytime soon if at all. I have to say that looking at yesterdays midfield performance we're going to need a lot more than FDJ to fix it.

UNCONDITIONALLY.

I’m glad to hear you would walk away over broken glass and hot coals from 17 million but the vast vast majority of the world absolutely wouldn’t leave that kind of money on the table.
You make it sound as though he's going to get it while he's still breathing.

Caicedo ran rings around McTominay yesterday, right now, he would definitely improve our midfield.
Any midfield pairing in the league would.
The sad thing is I’ve lost count of the number of times our opponents midfield have absolutely bossed us and it’s felt like their midfielders would improve our team. That’s how bad ours is.

I remember Neves and Moutinho completely out schooling ours in a league game it was embarsssing.

This saga is tiresome, can we just move on from this?
The idea of him was fun whilst it lasted but this has dragged on far too long and we need to sign a midfielder ASAP and we are running out of time.

Right now, I think 10% is optimistic.
If he saw that dismal display yesterday, that would surely be the final nail in the coffin.
optimism is the only weapon/choice we have now. Its depressing being a United fan since ‘13

The 450k should have been euros not £

I hate how we spend endless summers chasing unattainable targets. Shades of Bale and Fabregas on this one.

I would love FDJ, but I don't think he's a player I would rest an entire transfer window on. The frustrating thing about out midfield right now is how many targets other clubs have signed in midfield that clearly are streets ahead of Fred and McTominay, yet we seem hellbent on only signing the next Modric in there, or blowing the entire budget on Rice.

Guimaraes, Neves, Ndidi, Tielemans, JWP, Bissouma (already sold I know), McGinn, Douglas Luiz would walk into our midfield. You could probably list another 20-30 names across the top European leagues.

I just don't get it. This transfer for FDJ has been stalling all summer, clearly he never wanted to leave Barca. We should have moved on. What manager gets every player they want? We tried, he didn't want to move, let's go and sign any two of probably our top 10 targets this summer and it will still be a massive upgrade on what we have. But instead, it looks like we'll wait till deadline day for FDJ.

Yes. It’s time to drop the de Jong chase before he makes a complete fool of EtH and United. Just get on with getting some decent ( or even half decent ) players who actually want to come here. No time to look for super stars they have already gone for this window. By the way, when I say half decent I don’t mean has been like over the hil ex West Ham players. We could be deep in relegation trouble by Christmas and get ripped off for any decent players.

The only thing criminal about this chase, is that we didn't sign another midfielder to pair him with already.

Rabiot. Ruiz. Neves.

We should have brought in someone at this stage ALREADY. Then continue to FDJ chase.

There is absolutely no excuse not to rebuild our entire central midfield and get rid of Fred by next summer.

Frenkie De Jong: Barcelona midfielder 'wants to stay' says club president Laporta

Oh dear.
I'm not sure that's such big news, Laporta isn't to be trusted and said the same all along. Usually followed by a line like 'but we'll need to sell him because La Liga is being mean to us and insists we fulfill the FFP rules that apply for all the other teams".

If you were him knowing a footballer’s career is short, would you join this shitshow? I think even if you’re a United supporter you probably wouldn’t. Plenty of better options.

Between him wanting to stay, the Chelsea interest and now the Rabiot move this one is done for us.

Frenkie De Jong: Barcelona midfielder 'wants to stay' says club president Laporta

Oh dear.
There’s nothing new here, it’s the ongoing game from Laporta. But, the clock is ticking and he really needs to squeeze the pressure now. Of course he wants Frenkie to stay, but on a heavily reduced salary. Frenkie rightly has said he’ll continue on his current contract thank you very much, but of course Barca wont allow that to happen. They have 3 weeks to either get De Jong to break and sign a new contract, or to ship him out. There are no other options. The pendulum swings.

Can we just end this tiresome thing? Either he comes or stays, I genuinely couldn't give a shit anymore. This turned out more exhausting than the Sneijder saga. Steer away from Dutch footballers.

Bissouma, Tielmans and Eriksen could all have been signed for about £60 million. In no way world class but infinitely better than McFred. We need quality squad depth in midfield so FdJ could still have been actively pursued but without the pressure of knowing that it’s him or bust.

Our wage bill due to no CL and players leaving has probably reduced by about £80 million a year. Why isn’t that being reinvested back into the squad On top of the annual transfer budget?

Later on we'll have PSG again, tomorrow it's AC Milan or Juve, after that anyone's guess. Ajax maybe?
It'll be PSG later, then PSG will say no... then it'll be Juve or maybe even someone like Dortmund.

Then we'll have a direct swap with City for Silva. It's pretty clear that we're the only club seriously in for him as it stands

At this point people are just having fun with muppetry in this thread, right? Surely no one actually believes we'll sign him.

I believe we'll sign him, have done from the start, but a lot of it is just enjoying the chat and muppetry! Best part of transfer season for sure!

It's just a case of rinse and repeat daily.
Journalists ask every time the same questions and get the same answers. And it works, because people still klick, read and talk about the same information known for months. Easy money.
