Do you consider that Rabiot is a midfielder that normally averages 83.6% of his passes?
Do I consider that we are buying a player who is coming from another league, who had barely better stats than a player we already think is shit, coming to a league where the game is significantly tougher week in week out to be a 15m upgrade.

That’s his worst season I thought rather than ‘normally’? Apparently the whole teams stats were affected…just what I heard, can’t confirm.
Yeah, it was his worst season by some distance and the other midfielders were as bad.

It doesn;t matter if he's better than mctominay, He's not been good enough for a premier league team for the last 3 years.

Is this guy as good as Liverpool's midfield, City's, Spurs', Arsenal's?

Because that is who we have to beat.
What's so great about Spurs and Arsenals midfield btw? Maybe Rabiot would improve their CM options IF not start for them?

Oh no he had one terrible season which I will rely on completely, and plays in a league that isn't a PL, so he's definitely worse than Scott fecking Mctominay.

Do you judge players on a single season when you ahve more than one season to judge them? Do you draw strong conclusions on that when the stats don't match with the rest of their careers?

They both finished well ahead of us last year, and if we want to be back in CL football, we have to beat them.
Ah they finished ahead of us in our worst ever PL season, so their midfields are amazing. Got it.

What if, and this might be a nightmare, Rabiot are replacing Fred, and not McTominay?
Rabiot and Fred are similar in styles and their roles through the years. Fred and Rabiot are both left-footed, how many teams are playing 2 left-footed players in their central midfield? Fred was taken of early in the second half yesterday, even if it was McTominay who was easily the more useless one. What if Ten Hag wants to replace Fred and keep McTominay in the starting eleven?

We hired ETH because of his tactics whom unlike ... LVG's .... are cutting edge.
I am not so sure about that to be honest. LVG is the founder of that philosophy. Pep, Xavi, Arteta are all in the same school with variation in execution.

I feel like those posting stats about McTominay are really doing a discredit to stats.

This one really is really clear based on eye test.

Rabiot looks so much better than McTominay. Firstly he is better positionally by a mile, looks like he actually has a plan on what he is going to do both in possession and out of it, he is a better tackler, he is also probably slightly better than McTominay at driving away from initial challenges to break the lines which is probably Scott's best attribute.

Some forget that we're in a period of transition now and not very attractive to shiny new world class toys, so semi polished to scuffed is what we can get at the moment.
The only way we can tempt shiny new world class toys to join us is by offering ridiculous wages that nobody else will pay, and we're moving away from that because we end up being stuck with overpaid shiny new toys when they don't perform for us and nobody wants to pay them.
I don't think that anyone can possibly forget that we are in a period of transition, we've been in it for almost a decade..!

If we're getting him we're getting him. So at this point, has he had any kind of preseason? Is he ready to contribute or will we be waiting 3 weeks for him to be up to speed?
Has had 22 mins was subbed off after coming in as a sub

Basing players off one season is always flawed. We have to look at the overall profile of the player and decide whether or not we can get the best out of them and whether they can improve us.

Luckily for Rabiot, we are starting from the position of an almost blank slate. Our midfield is so fecking dreadful that he really has a chance opportunity here to come in and improve us.

Judging from ability alone this is actually angering me a bit more than the Arnautovic rumour (I know he's a tool but he can actually be really good footballer on his day). Rabiot is just bang average. Still a lot younger at least.

Different players but yeah. The same applies to all their midfielders, in terms of feeling Juventus are right watching them play is excrutiating, the issue is that it's all of them without exception.

At least, no one will be complaining about his passing stats if we're interested.

Don't laugh, Arsenal might. Arsenal is linked with Arthur back in January.

Exacly and I'm skeptical about Rabiot but he isn't McTominay.

I think the thing we have to remember is that the best teams don’t necessarily have eleven world beaters. Liverpool have dominated many teams over the last few years with bloody Jordan Henderson. If ETH sees Rabiot’s profile of player as one that will improve the collective then I’ll back his judgement.

Hopefully we’ll also be adding a touch of class with FDJ next to him too. Add in Eriksen and that’s quite a transformation

Any idea why we're not going for Tielemans anymore? I'd feel a little bit better about it if we panic sign him instead.

My point is two fold 1) Some of our signings will not be top class players but ones who can at some point help us challenge for top 4 and 2) Some of them may even be players who aren't doing well but the club feels they have much greater potential

Had a quick look through the Juventus forum. They absolutely hate everyone in their squad it seems like apart from their shiny new toy who we all detested (Pogba)

sorry those are actually decent players that we don't want to sell!

By the way I'm not saying Rabiot is totally shit just that perfomance/wages do not match at all!
At Juventus he is getting paid almost 200k/week way too much for what he can offer.
He doesn't tackle, he isn't a deep passer, scores way too less, he isn't aggressive.
Hi best attributes? he is handsome so team general handsomeness would go up. Sometimes he somehow wake up and does wonder goals but that's like once every 2months
