Bring him back as DoF. Even if Murtough miraculously brings in a couple of players this window has been inadequate.

He was brought into asses the situation on how to build a strong foundation, not to be a manger because he isn’t a manager! Another feck up from this joke of a club!
No he wasn't. He was brought in primarily to rescue top 4 - we needed someone who was available and willing to accept the job on interim basis and there weren't that many options - it sounded like he talked a good game in the interview process to convince the club he'd be able to turn it round on the pitch. His expertise in behind the scenes role was just a bonus and afterthought to the club, evidenced by the fact they only offered him a consultancy role for a few days a month and didn't actually bother keeping him on in the end.

It was a mistake not make use of his expertise, but it certainly wasn't the primary reason he was hired in the first place.

I must have been on a different site when people were throwing sand on his recommendations for wide scale overhaul. "8-10 transfers" was the common joke. The funniest thing are some who didn't mind talking about Rangnick all summer, well after his departure suddenly have a problem with the thread existing.

True, we didn’t have many options. But we did have one option — Conte. We should have gone with Conte.

However, if the idea of Conte was intolerable to many, Ralf as interim manager made perfect sense. We should have kept him on in the consultant role that we desperately need. It’s pretty clear we’re in shambolic hands with Arnold, Murtough and Fletcher.

Conte was not available at the time Ole was sacked. The club persisted with Ole after City/Liverpool thinking he could turn it round when everyone in the whole world knew he couldn't turn it round. By the time the club was forced to sack Ole, Conte was already at Spurs.

As for why we didn't sack Ole earlier and get Conte in, the club want yes men unfortunately. They didn't want Conte kicking up a fuss publicly at the club's incompetence in the transfer market.

Liverpool had a director of football, a recruitment department, and a manager, who had input into how to assemble the squad. They had this since 2011 and the results were largely poor until they hired Klopp and until Edwards moved up.

The issue was not simply "structure", it was whether the people involved could do a great job or not.
In United’s case, we don’t have the structure or the people to execute. It’s arguing semantics though.

Wrong man at the wrong place at the wrong time. If The Glazers has any sense they would sack this Murtough and bring back Ralf as the DOF.

So basically Murtough is that pathologically thick that he hired a guy renowned for developing the strategy of a club, but then gave him the remit that feeding the dividends and getting top 4 was in fact the priority, then sacked him when it didn’t work out. Meanwhile, all of the observations Ralf made are coming crashing down on us this window after Murtough’s ineptitude at developing the strategy of the club becomes apparent.

Ralf had it very right in his analysis of Manchester United. The problem with the team is the mentality of players. There needs to be an overhaul to stop the rot. Bringing in new players to integrate in this team will simply allow the rot to spread to the new players. This is why overhaul is needed and big changes made. Your team cant be allowed to have DDG, Shaw, Maguire, Fred, Dalot, Martial, AWB, Mctominay and a sulking Ronaldo bedding in with your new signings. They will simply be corrupted and all these players need to be replaced with immediate effect. That central midfield is killing you honestly and the lack of pace Sancho has needs to be balanced out with a new explosive fullback/wingback who can beat a man. Ronaldo is your best player, however having an unhappy star will only hinder ETH greatly. I am shocked that Maguire remained your captain, I would have sold him and replaced him right away if I was in ETH shoes. Henderson should be recalled and made starting GK. DDG is simply not good enough for those wages he is on. The lack of pace Shaw has is worrying, a explosive wingback/fullback will help Rashford tremendously and not leave him in no mans land as he usually is these days. Malacia must start surely.
I would absolutely remove Maguire from the team, irrelevant of what he cost you.

However, the main worry is your owners. A great club as United does not deserve leeches as owners. Was my main worry with Boehly coming in, but I feel you can see the mentality difference from the owners. Yours are simply not good enough, your fans should take a stand and get them out ASAP.

ETH could’ve needed an Rangnick as an advisor and allied.

We all agree Rangnick did a poor job as manager, but his evaluation of the situation was spot on. United needs an “open heart surgery”.

I think it’s impossible to succeed as manager in United with all sort of clowns behind the scenes. Our transfers and transfers strategy sucks and it has become more and more obvious our transfer problems isn’t related to the manager.

This is speculation to be fair, but I do get the feeling ETH wasn't enthused by the prospect of Ralf having influence when he joined. From what was reported ETH refused to meet with Ralf in person and only granted him a phone call, and when asked about Ralf in an interview he seemed a bit dismissive.

I also suspect this narrative that the club had no targets so ETH has been reluctantly forced to identify transfer targets himself is blatantly false. I think ETH saw an opportunity to have more control over transfers than he ever could have dreamed this summer and has took it, to the point where the club's targets and Ralf reccomendations have been largely dismissed so ETH can pick and choose players he's worked with or is familiar with from Eredivisie. Timber/Martinez instead of long term target Pau Torres being an example.

With Ralf here I get the feeling ETH would have less influence which would benefit us, but ETH wouldn't see it that way. His attitude is going to be since he's the one who has to work with the players, he should have most influence on who is signed.

Yeah I wish we would realise our mistake before it's too late, kicked out just for daring to tell the truth about inadequate recruitment

fecking woeful that they've let his 6 months of exposing these frauds go to waste by ignoring him and letting them do it again to the new manager.
Yeah that decision has sent us back to square one and no sign of appointing a proper one

if you think Ragnick did a poor job as manager...where do you think ETH would finish with current squad? He'd struggle to finish 6th. (it's obviously the players not the managers)

Just think of how much money could have been saved if the club hadn't gone in for all these ridiculous signings over the years, these managers that were poles apart in their ideas, and if it had a sensible plan. That clip of Ralf doing the rounds just illustrates the point.

It's telling that none of the managers that followed Sir Alex have anything nice to say about the way in which the club operates, other than Ole (who probably is too loyal/polite to say anything publicly). I'm pretty much almost beyond criticizing managers anymore at this point as it's clear as day where the real problem is.

Here is a thing. United fans can't decide on anything. We have set of supporters whom will not protest no matter what because "it's not the United way". We have green and yellow group but the movement never gained enough momentum, whenever something comes up Glazers just makes a distraction (i.e super league & Ceo resignment). Then we have tourists, they're happy regardless of the situation.
Unless United relegated, there won't be change.

I give it 6 weeks before Ten Hag starts throwing out the same lines Rangnick was. No one wanted to hear it at the time but maybe now we got the manager we wanted people will wake up.
Can't wait to hear it and let's see if he ends up saying too much for these leeches

I’m not ETH Out, but some of his comments bigging-up these wasters in our squad is concerning. If it’s true that he snubbed his nose at RR and he fails to turn things around, he’s going to look like the biggest clown. Unless the Glazer-scum take drastic action like replacing Arnold and/or Murtough, or these numbnuts really open the purse strings in the next few weeks, I fear ETH is just going to be another casualty. On the flip side, I’m sure Fergie’s favourite son Fletcher is just waiting to swoop in and dazzle us all.

As I recall he said he wouldn't have taken the temporary manager job without the consultancy role, I think the club planned to cancel it all along and just lied to him.

Yeah don't be too proud to pick up phone Erik because he already had six months of dealing with these utter cowards
Amen to that. But people like Arnold and Murtough are probably going to stone-wall that. They’ve proven themselves to be some of the most conceited and dumbest people around.

Maybe give Ralf a call.
Doubt Rangnick would answer that call. The club shafted him, as well as many others. For the life of me I don't know why such a clown like Murtough is in charge of the football side of things when there are men such as Rangnick who have experience in building up clubs. And what the feck is Fletcher doing? This club is a circus. Totally inexperienced men who have no idea what they're doing at the top and at the very top there are leeches on the other side of the ocean who don't give a feck about anything except their yearly dividends.

Don't blame him for not answering that call, this club deserves to rot away for ignoring his advice.

Was so excited by this appointment but him leaving has probably ended any hopes of club being revived.

I wouldn’t go that far. Hanlon’s razor in action here. The club is completely inept.

Meanwhile they reportedly tried to get ETH to retain Phelan, mastermind behind that 2020 disaster summer. Priorities much. Everything from the current regime makes it unlikely they weren't active participants of Woodward's, from terrible contract renewals to disastrous squadbuilding knowledge. Was pretty laughable to suggest Woodward tied their hands in the old trafford basement and forced them to go along with his bad decisions.

I can’t even watch those videos of Ralf man it makes me so sad that we had the perfect guy (+ Paul Mitchell) to modernise and we fecked him and contractually shut him down for telling the truth, that is genuinely mental.

Nevermind ETH wasting all summer before quickly learning after two games what Ralf was saying back in May, really just sums this whole club up there is never any forward progression, first port of call has to be sacking Murtough.

The businessmen behind the scenes have no interest in actually running a football club, that's too expensive. They want to instead do the bare minimum and scrape top 4, as that's the most effective way of making the owners money. Rangnick never stood a chance here, as what Van Gaal said about us is true, we're not a football club under this ownership.

At least his believes it now.

I guess it was not Ten Hag rejecting Rangnick's ideas outright, Ten Hag really wanted to see for himself and observe the team and make his own judgement, he said so in his first press conference, he also wanted to coach the team in the best way he could, inspire them and give them confidence and all, however, like Rangnick, he has seen enough and aside from the new players he signed, I can't tell who would be safe for the long term, not even Bruno & Sancho.
