Nope my love for united has faded over the last 5 years. However watching only united gets my blood pumping in a way watching no other team can. I'm invested! I appreciate other games for their players, managers, tactics etc but there's no feeling towards it, for example Chelsea v Spurs... good game , plethora of goals, heated moments but for me, there was no feeling to it. I used to put united ahead of everything and schedule my time around our games. Nowadays if I'm about, I'll watch the game. Preferred going to brunch with the missus.

Yes absolutely. Find myself disinterested in football in general. In fact I'm watching our games but since they are so shit that the rest of football becomes intolerable to me too.

For a new fans what would then be a reason to start supporting United currently? McTominay and Fred press resistance? Dalot aimless long balls and crosses? Bruno wasting pass after pass? DeGea playing out from the back?
Being born in, or having family links to - Manchester.

Until I was 30 it did affect me, quite a lot. After 30, no, I don't give a single flying feck about it, especially after overcoming more difficult stuff in life.

There are a lot of good things happening around us, football shouldn't be one to break our moods, not in a million years. I can watch other games and enjoy them with no issues.

Hell yes. I grew up not being able to wait for next United game. August was my favorite month as EPL was starting. As I live in USA, Saturday/Sunday mornings used to be amazing. Coffee, breakfast and United playing and usually beating someone while playing entertaining football.

First 4-6 years after Alex left were hard but at least there was a freaking hope that things will eventually get better.

This year is the worst as I had that hope again but now hope died. I don't think we will be any good any time soon.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not heart broken not winning stuff. Teams can go through terrible spell and through dynasties that win a lot. Currently we are so broken that no one can actually say with any certainty what is the path forward. We tried different coaches, different systems, different players and nothing - nothing works.

This season just started and we are already total sh1t. This just sucks so badly. Once a gigantic football club, now a continuous laughing stock.

What’s really putting me off is how the competitive side of football almost entirely boils down to the clubs as businesses.

United shambles and City’s successful really rams that home.

I find myself enjoying being a neutral about other games more. I appreciate the talent in other teams more.

It’s the opposite for me. I enjoy watching football outside of United more. I enjoy watching football as a sport, and with how brutal United matches are you can sometimes forget how good the sport can actually be.

meh this season has that perverted pain feel to it where we can keep watching to see how bad this is gonna get. Cause right now it has the makings of a season that could go literally anywhere from relegation to top half.

I am Estonian and our clubs have struggled against Faroe Island & Iceland clubs in European football & our national team went a year without a win.
So this what is going around in United atm is nothing.

Watching United became pure masochism, but I rarely miss the games. And yes, my football interest is drastically lower in few last years.

No because I believe this coach will be the right one and I’m excited for the long hall. I expect a few bumps in the road

Yes, most definitely. We used to laugh at the likes of Spurs and now they're towering above us in both strength and mentality. Fecking depressing.

Absolutely. Waited all summer for the new season to start, but our shitheads killed my desire to even watch Chelsea vs Spurs yesterday.

Can't be bothered watching other teams until we get it together, which is a matter of if, not when.

It definitely affects my desire to watch other teams. Case in point, I flicked Spurs vs Chelsea on yesterday, watched bits of it and then turned it off at HT because I just had no interest in it.

If we're honest, modern-day football is a pretty tumescent, tactical sport at times if you're a genuine neutral with nobody to root for. The fact we're not fighting for anything means I have little to no interest in watching our rivals.

No, I love football outside United.
United games are a tough watch obviously.
I think I can see a trajectory to what is happening at United. We have to hit rock bottom first, and we are on our way. It feels close. This year is different. Most fans are not blaming the manager. And even when we blame the players, we know where the real rot is in this club. It feels like the beginning of a fundamental change in worldview. And at the end of this is the departure of the Glazers, if not this year then certainly in the next three, and then we will have our club back.

Apart from that, I do love the sport. So I watched the Chelsea-Spurs game yesterday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the antics on the touchline.
It affects me wanting to watch United haha

But no other games I will watch no problem, I still appreciate good football
Serious question, if (for example) you only watch Chelsea games (because you enjoy watching them and United are too hard to watch) and find yourself starting to back Chelsea to win, are you still a United fan?

I’m not being a top red, I’ve been thinking about watching other teams, but have always been a United fan rather than a football fan previously so don’t know what I’m doing.

Agree football is far less entertaining now in general. I think it’s in part due to much improved team defending.

Second season in a row it is happening to me. All these years, despite our form and results, i would watch other games, watch all highlights next day and spend some time on web during the week to see what is happening in PL and around Europe.
At this moment i don't do anything of that. I watch United of course and read about us and that is it. I didn't even have any desire to watch Chelsea-Spurs.

So am i the only one whos desire in football (not counting United games) is at rock bottom at the moment?
I would say it’s certainly taken my love and excitement of Utd games away. But I’m more relaxed watching some of the rivals play because I’m no longer tense hoping they fail because we are so far away it’s not even competitive.

It’s definitely making weekend football less exciting than it used to be.

I am talking about desire to watch other games and love for football in general. Not about love for United and desire for watching our games. That thing can't change.
Sorry if I misunderstood the question. I’ve always been addicted to football so personally for me I just can’t not watch. However I do find it difficult to watch city/Liverpool without feeling depressed at how far away we are from that level

When I paid for sky and whatnot then yes it affected me, when united lose it used to piss me off I was paying £85 a month to watch the utter dross/shambles.

Cancelled my plan, Went to the dark side got a fire stick and knowing not one penny of my money goes to football makes me not really care.

For a long time…… I’ve started to get the feeling… should I sit for 90 minutes and watch us be crap or do something productive for me even if it’s just a walk.

The turning point was Vs Brighton. I actually should have gone and did something for business, but thought no do that tomorrow, watched United and it was utter crap. Needles to say the following day I had to reject business that I would have accepted if I did what I should have done on the Sunday.

So vs Brentford, late kickoff I was thinking by the time this is done I can go have a walk but then the coffee shop will be closed. Anyways decided to watch anyways, needless to say at half time I was out the door.

I don't know about the others, I will still watch every United game I can, but obviously I'm not enjoying the way things are going at the moment. The OP was asking if it affects our desire to watch football but I will always like watching good football and big games no matter who is playing. United will always be my priority but I can enjoy other games of football no problem.

In fact it can be very enjoyable being a neutral watching a good game of ball

I know a few fans who are thinking of giving up watching them. I won't though, even if we get relegated.

Yeah this basically. I'm enjoying football the sport a lot more now that there's no pressure around United needing to be good.

No.
Was planning on going to OT this season but will wait and see on that one but I'll watch any other game.
Hoping for A Pool/City/Chelsea/Leeds etc loss is now the substitute for a Utd win unfortunately.
That and me fantasy team.

Eh? Why the feck would I want Chelsea to win, unless they were playing Liverpool.

I hate football outside of MUFC. I was introduced to this game by MUFC, back in the early 90’s. Never enjoyed it that much watching and seeing what other men can do with a football.
inside of MUFC it is different. I feel the pride, the hunger, desire and belonging.
But sadly I’ve not watched any football match (I’m in South east Asia) dealt out by MUFC for the better part of 8 months now. Frankly speaking Maguire, Shaw, AWB and to a lesser extent McFRed and Ole were the prime reasons but lately the entire team reeks of complacency and lack of will. It is too easy and too obvious to see. You can even detect the lack of effort from the get go. Had it not been Ronaldo last season I’d have totally lost interest after 5 games last season. There are too many negative emotions, it’s just not worth going through the pain. I find this forum a little bit weird in that there are so many fans still positively buzzing and passionate to defend the club, I really do appreciate your passion. But pretty soon I will also lose interest in voicing out or even having an argument or discussion about this. #irrelevant

I dont like football that much apart from United. The sport is pretty rotten. I still watch United games because its something to talk about with friends and I grew up supporting them. That said, the current bunch aren't worth supporting. I still support the club but I don't care about most of this team.

Me too. I wrote this season off, just wanting to support ETH and let him get started making his imprint. But it's also hard, I never expected a start like this especially after a pretty decent pres-season.

Meanwhile I have enjoyed the random Wolves vs Leeds game a lot more.

Yes. I only enjoy watching United, and when things are this awful, I have to just pull away. I’m not really interested in other teams, I’m afraid. If I can’t watch United for the sake of the care of the self and what vestiges of sanity still cling to me, I do other things. Not football.
