Ole apparently wanted to sign him in 2020 for 4.5m

The guy we didn’t sign from Ecuador in 2021? It was a mistake not to

Why didn't we get him and just loan him to somewhere like you know, Brighton.

Wasn’t it we didn’t want to pay the £4 million fee ?

Just such a United thing to do, we could have signed him for £4 million but because he’s not a commercial star or an established PL star we don’t bother then go in once they’re worth more than 10 times the original amount, I fecking hate how we’re run so fecking much.

He didn't fit into Ed Woodward's Disney land.

Just sums up this club in a nutshell.

Ridiculously cheap, clearly we have a complete blind spot when it comes to CDM
Just a bizarre choice over all, dirt cheap and we still passed on him, maybe someone thought he won't make it but surely it was worth taking a punt at that price.

So if he signed he’d be playing right now? We can’t even develop James Garner

Rather we buy him now.
They will want at least £30m I reckon, quite honestly with Bissouma gone can't see them letting him leave anyway.

It's easy to say we should have done this or that in hindsight. Look at Pellistri. Signing a young lad from South America isn't a sure fire success. Perhaps, just perhaps, going to a good football club where he plays and that has a good manager and structure has been crucial to his development, and if he had come here initially it wouldn't have worked out so cleanly for him.

I don't buy the complaints about how inept we are for not buying him earlier. You can apply this argument to all top teams who buy players for big money.

But you do have to look at our scouts and wonder don't you?

Yet more rubbish leaking out from the club. If they want him they can literally get him right now. Especially now with Garner on the market. They could easily involve him in a deal. Potter loves players like Garner.

Love us to sign this guy and Antony and none of the old donkeys we have been linked with lately.

Let's hope that cnuty family who own us give us some money back for the purchases.

They didn't sign him because they had never heard of him.

That's pretty damning on the club scouting system.

Brighton wouldn’t have taken him on loan. They wanted him with the hope to sell on for high profit, which they will eventually.

What scouting system
That too.

We just have to accept we're likely in a relegation battle this season and hope the manager is good enough to build something that works over the course of the season by salvaging a few of the current jokers and bringing through some young players

Do people really think Brighton would sell him for £30m? They sold White for £50m and Cucurella for £60m, this guy may be sold next year for about £60m (will have 2 years left on his contract).

Do you? This feels like the club identified the player but for some reason didn’t go for him?

There definitely feels like there’s something within our set up that drags deals out or second guesses recruitment

The potential signing of Caicedo was pushed by United's head of South American scouting, Jose Mayorga, from what I learned at the time of the speculation. It was the scouting team led by Mayorga in South America, that was completely sold on the player. It was then reported that Woodward and Judge felt the deal was too complicated due to the number of agents involved. That gave Brighton the advantage due to having dealt with the same agents in previous transfers.

The interesting thing about Jose Mayorga is that he seems to be someone that has filled the void of the outgoing Marcel Bout in a head of recruitment capacity. So it'll be interesting to see how influential the Colombian will be in forthcoming transfer Windows.
