Would you not just bench him and move on if they're not going to buy him?

Taking the piss out of a player like that will likely result him in taking the piss when he does get subbed on. Why would he try hard if they're intentionally messing him about? Even if he is a twat.

Anything that forces Barcelona to suffer the consequences for their reckless and arrogant behaviour can only be applauded

This is fantastic if true. Only Athletico can muster up something so petty as this! It's great to see.

As others have said before. Anything to feck over Barce is a plus in my book!

Antoine Griezmann transfer clause sees furious Barcelona 'swindled out of £50million'

So apparently there's a clause in his contract that if he plays more than 30 minutes a game they have to make the deal permanent and so far atleti have made sure to give him no more than 29 minutes.

Is this true, if so it's genuinely one of the most bizarre and comedic things around .
This is actually beautiful to see!

Basically they can play him for less than 30 minutes for 2 games and then a full game every 3rd game. As long as he doesn’t play 30+ mins in 50% or more games.

At the moment he’s on 0 out of 2 games.

A transfer tug-of-war except both clubs want rid of him.

there's nothing in that article about it being 30 mins a game

the clause is 50% of game-time...

so Atleti are just being cautious by bringing him on with 30m to go

I think it's bad faith.
Sure. But Barca are saying that to their own players about their signed contracts. Atletico would be mad to trigger them paying Barca 50m + for him. Not sure if Atletico would be happy to terminate the loan, but there is no chance Barca would accept that and having to cover his wages. If it were two different parties you could make a case for a termination of the loan.

There is?

The contractual situation is a complex one, but broken down to its simplest form Atletico would have to pay the aforementioned figure providing Griezmann plays more than 30 minutes of football in 50 per-cent of games this season - hence the reason the France international has been introduced in the 62nd minute of both fixtures so far this term.

At the moment he is 30 of 39. That's 76%.
- 30 out of 37 last season.
- 0 of 2 this season.

Unethical, clubs will think twice before making these kind of deals with Atletico.

Does Lionel Hutz draw up these contracts for Barcelona?
Lionel Hutz won a surprising amount of cases in the Simpsons, despite his wild incompetence.

This is a absolutely wild loophole though. "First year paralegal would spot this loophole "

ARE there other clubs stupid enough to make this kind of deal with Athletico?

Problem with political organizations: PR points vs Reality. Barca pushed through a badly crafted deal so they could tell their voting members and supporters “we got x amount of millions. We iz jeanuses”. Then reality sets in. Athletico sees they don’t want to be on the hook for the player, and the contract gives them a way to accomplish that.

Meanwhile Barca probably has no plan for not getting that money.
