The start of a bundesliga season is like the last 5 minutes of a game of monopoly. One guy has 95% of the shit and anybody still around with the cheek to call themselves a competitor will be hoovered up momentarily. At this point aside from completely changing the rules of the game or perhaps a house fire then the win is inevitable.

I went to watch Hertha Berlin last year. It was a fantastic experience but the standard was laughable.

For context, I sometimes go and watch Bradford City and I honestly believe the standard in the English League One is on a par with, if not above the lower ranked teams in the Bundesliga.
Thats funny because Frankfurt finished 11th in the league last year and won the EL, beating West Ham from the mighty EPL twice on the road.

I'm already curious how this thread looks in case Frankfurt should win the Super Cup against Real...

I think that the last 2 games from Bayern made Leipzig and Dortmund again active on the transfermarket... Leipzig buying Raum and probably Werner (and keeping Laimer), Dortmund with Modeste and now trying to get Hudson-Odoi... - before they probably thought that Bayern would have problems without Lewy...

I am not so sure about that. Raum and Werner have been long ongoing transfers and that Dortmund would sign an experienced stopgap appeared obvious after Haller's diagnosis.

Not selling Laimer to me looks more like Bayern not going all in then Leipzig deciding it, only the interest in Hudson-Odoi might be caused by that.

The clubs should just ignore Bayern and the bundesliga and whoever finishes 2nd they celebrate on the pitch with a trophy end of the season.

I'm not sure what happens if someone actually manages to finish above Bayern, but bare with me, I only came up with this idea 2 seconds ago after reading this thread.
That would actually be hilarious. We need to petition for this.

Ten in a row for Bayern, and nobody looks anywhere remotely close to challenging them this generation. They've won 18 of the last 24 Bundesliga titles. It has become a meaningless feat. I wouldn't be totally shocked if they go on to win twenty in a row. The only way to compete with them anymore is if some club becomes the German City/PSG. The fact that a country with that kind of football pedigree has only one real top-tier club is kind of pathetic, to be honest. The Bundesliga is a huge disappointment. If anything, it's impressive that the other clubs have such high attendances and such devoted fans, because it must be an odd feeling to be that passionate about your local team in a league that has been won ten years in a row by the same club. You'd think the other clubs' fans would get bored of it.

It's a systemic error. The tournament mode in the big leagues rewards those who are already at the top with more money so that the gaps are ever growing. The Bundesliga further cemented the status quo by implementing 50 + 1 so that now there's absolutely no route to catch up with Bayern. The EPL would most likely have similar issues with such a rule in place.

And this is going to be a problem for football in general. If it goes on like this, the ESL will be inevitable.

Any possibility of the modern German league evolving into a competitive one ended the day Bayern announced the signing of Goetze from Dortmund a few days before playing them in a CL final, just a meek acceptance of their role as a feeder team for the big clubs around Europe.

I think one of the reasons why fans of this generation have been pushed so hard towards supporting star individuals rather than clubs is this lack of competitveness, super clubs putting up hirtheto unreachable points and goals totals with benches and stands full of players who would be starting for their rivals. It is shit.

I always wonder why people think fans of clubs care about who wins the title? Fans from Freiburg, Union Berlin, Frankfurt etc wouldn't really care who wins the league since they won't ever be in the running for it. For them the league is still exciting because of how competitive it is at the level where clubs fight got Europe.

Very few, if any, fans from those clubs would prefer to get rid of the 50+1 run, and lose control of their club for having the slight chance of winning the title. Though I don't support a particular club in the BL myself and so am interested in the title chase every year, I would never support removing the 50+1 rule, it's like selling your soul to the devil.

Also, in these 10 years of Bayern dominating, I don't think there's been a decrease in crowd attendance or TV money so this whole notion of people not caring is not true. There's more risk of people not going to games if you have greedy owners taking over and increasing ticket prices.

First the news were leaked a few days before Dortmund's semi final match against Real Madrid not before the final. Don't think Bayern leaked the news to help Real to reach the final.
Goetze was injured anyway.
Goetze wasn't a success at Munich and returned to Dortmund after just 3 years.

Nothing would have changed, if Bayern hadn't signed him.

Dortmund struggled mainly to hire the right manager after Klopp left. Little bit like United after SAF left.

I'm really disliking the fact that I'm feeling this, but I'm now more and more leaning towards that outcome as well.

Fair enough, fake memory to fit my biases.

I don't think it matters that he was injured, the result of the match or how he did at Bayern. To the outsider it looks like a period of time when they had the possibility of challenging Bayern on equal terms and Bayern just crushed that thought. Took their bright young star and then Lewandowski and latterly Hummels soon after. Akin to Utd being able to go to Arsenal in 98 and take Henry and Vieria off them.

Nothing would have changed, if Bayern hadn't signed him.

Maybe, maybe not but football would be in a far healthier position if teams like that Dortmund era, the Monaco team who went to a CL final, the Ajax of a few years back actually had the opportunity to evolve and bring something new to the competition instead of just being ripped up as soon as possible.

"The PL’s sporting advantage has been bought by foreign money"..

The English Premier League was better than Bundesliga even before Etihad, Saudis or Glazers.
UEFA Country ranking (2000's decade)

England outperformed Germany 9 times out of 10 and, arguably already was the BEST league in the world.
As AC Milan supporter I've always been more concerned to face the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool than any german team except FC Bayern maybe... (maybe because we eliminated Bayern every single time we met them)

I just finished watching Freiburg vs Bochum, and it was one of the most enjoyable games I've watched in awhile. It had many things from skill, fights, 43 attempts on goal overall, moments of individual brilliance of both sides. Thought Freigburg would go several goals ahead, given the consummate ease with which they were carving out opportunities, but Riemann had other ideas, barring his one but ultimately decisive error. Then the roles reversed with Bochum having 3-4 chances within a 2 minute span. Bochum responded to the previous drubbing with great determination, and off the second half alone would feel they maybe could have gotten a point. Credit to Freiburg though, and Christian Streich.

He raises some good points.

But at the end of the day Bayern will destroy their way to another title. That is not a healthy league.

That is without a doubt correct but today’s game highlights that it is a very entertaining league (when you ignore the title fight… :nervous:).

Bayern are probably in the top 3-5 teams in Europe but the next best team is not even in top 10, hence there's so much difference and no title fight.

It's Germany so the football will always be good and the team ownership situation is great.

I just think that if Bayern continue this perhaps even historical great German clubs' fans will eventually say feck it.

There is no healthy league. And no bearable solution for the problems.

All said that when Schweinsteiger, then Lahm and Alonso and last Robbery left, the run is over and they will need to rebuild but in difference to others they just continue and other players grow into the roles!

I used to watch it in the 90s. It was not turd! They had those cinematographic slow motion replays of slide tackles and fouls. So, who's Bayern main rival this season?

On paper it should be Dortmund with Leipzig and then Leverkusen completing the CL spots. But Dortmund is prone to lose points against bad teams and that simply doesn’t happen to Bayern. Therefore, there is no real „main rival“.

Absolutely brilliant game of football, Gregoritsch should've had 3, Pedersen hitting the bar and all hell breaking lose. Then Bochum came and have their all and Flekken saving SCF on couple occasions. How this game ended 1-0 is beyond me.

What a weird way of trying to defend your league's honor. The BDL would be proud.

It's not my league, I'm not defending them, precisely because of their non-competitive nature. I barely saw Barcelona and Real in the last few years in La Liga. Only follow PSG-OM in France, Bayern's games in BL, the few derby's in Serie A and the top 4-6 in PL. Other games are only occasionally watchable, but the quality is tremendous between the superclubs and the rest.
The other 4 leagues aside from PL are so uncompetitive primarily because of money. The world talents before the big money came to PL were not so concentrated in few superclubs and one superleague(PL).
The likes of Roma, Lazio, Dortmund, Marseille, Monaco, Valencia, Bremen were genuinely enjoyable and could mount title challenges. Right now everything needs a miracle(Leicester), the giants bottling it(PSG) or both.
