I wonder if ten Hag and his staff were shocked to see that he has regressed when they got to United, or if he never rated him that high in the first place.

Between September 1st -18th we play 6 games. Between October 2nd - 30th we play 9 games. And between November 3rd - 12th we play 4 games.

He'll play plenty.

I can't see him getting much game time alongside Casemiro, who for all his strengths is not a playmaker by any stretch. Donny doesn't have the passing range to take on that role either, needs someone alongside him to progress the game.

Unfortunately his reselling value dropped big time as well. Would only assume probably Ajax would take him for some 10 mill back if ever. Was a weird transfer in the first place, everyone here made me believe he's more than what he's a decent system player for a dominating team in a poor league. Yeah I am aware of some of his better games in the CL as well:-)

Hope to see him starting in one of our next two games with only three days apart.

His link up and late runs to the box will be very useful when there are 2-3 opposition players marking both Sancho and Antony

Disagree. His value has already plummeted and whatever it is, it' depends on if he wants to leave and accept a reduced salary elsewhere.
Best thing that can happen is ETH can get something out of him and he is somewhat useful for us until he fecks off.

Think he'll more likely start in the Europa League game next week. Needs to do well in those games before he can be trusted with a PL start. We can't start him vs Arsenal, and away at Leicester is not an easy game despite their league position after 4 games, and it's imperative we keep our winning run going.

So he sat and watched as the other 5 midfielders finished the match. Must be buzzing

He'll probably start benefitting once the team is up to speed with ETH's style - until then I guess he'll play Europa games.

Has anyone here mentioned that glorious tweet last week of Bruno's family and his son....who looks almost exactly what you'd imagine a Donny mini-me to look like?

Thats another manager thats come in and hasnt thrown him into the side (and the latest one being his former manager who got the best out of him previously).

Id be very very surprised if hes here after next years Summer transfer window. If he is, im expecting hes turned it around which would be great for us.

Slow down guys, I think he will work his way in and have a use, ETH saw him with confidence and he's probably a shell of himself but I have faith we can restore him somewhat - He will be useful in the low block games where we have a lot of the ball with players like Eriksen etc but he needs the right game to start or come on and play well and build from there, we started poorly and I think that's why we haven't been able to blood some of our squad players as much as we would have liked, even people like Garnacho I would have expected more "10 mins off the bench", looking forward to our Europa game against Sheriff on the 15th, the Sociedad one we will play strong and make sure we get 3 points.

Hopefully you are right but I don't see it, I fail to see a role or a strength that he can leverage.

When does his contract run out? 2 yrs left? A 4+1 yr contract?

If so, we will have to sell him by next summer regardless.

Of course we should see how ETH uses him (if at all) before reaching our final conclusion.

But regardless of outcome, at the end of the season we should definitely know if he's going to be with us for the foreseeable future.

Admittedly a lot of what I am basing that on is from his Ajax days but I don't see that a player loses a load of ability, they lose form and belief and ETH clearly helped instill a lot of that initially and we know he won't throw players in until they are fully ready (See Casemiro or Ronaldo without a pre-season)

Sometimes players have purple patches, they look promising for a couple of seasons and then go back to their normal self. A random example would be Javi Garcia or Raul Garcia, there are also players that are just not movable like Podolski, who never really played at his Köln or German national team level outside of them. But yeah, hopefully it's just a matter of confidence.

Don't think anyone still believes Donny can succeed at United but this season is another chance for him. Probably more in Europa League group stage games and cups, but it's still a chance.

I literally forgot that he is still here until i saw this thread at top. Damn, surely ETH will find some use of him.
As people said before; if he will not play under ETH then time to cut losses

Yeah probably last chance. His third season for us (and that includes a loan to Everton who didnt really use him either)

It is clear now he is not that good of a player. Everyone said Ole doesn't know how to use technical players, Donny will bench Bruno.

I mean he can barely even get on, at least under Ole he got 5 mins.

Can we now safely assume that he still won't play even with Ten Hag as manager?

Seriously I would play him instead of Bruno - cannot contribute any less than Bruno currently and would have a more positive impact on those around him.
Bruno is working hard and playing some good passes. Right now he deserves to start

Copium.

If any manager was going to pick him, it's ETH. He brought in Eriksen and prefers to play him as our #8. He's playing Bruno as our #10. VDB has no chance. ETH had 5 midfielders on the pitch at the end of the Leicester game. VDB was still on the bench. That says it all. If he's lucky, he gets to play in some irrelevant Europa League games. He will be gone next summer.

He'll play at 10 in the Europa League group games I expect but would take a serious turnaround from here for much beyond that.

Donny is a lot like Firminho so if he doesn't play when when the attacking system actually starts coming together then its time for him to be worried. Bruno is similar to Rashford in that his general movement and interplay is poor but will come up with something out of nothing when it counts, that isn't a player you can rely on longterm for the type of football ETH wants.

The grief Solskjaer got on here over Donny was ridiculous.
