He is such frustrating as a No.9 considering that he cannot hold the ball, cannot win (or even challenge) for aerial duels. But he is fecking rapid, times his runs perfectly and lethal in front of goal. 2 nice goals, and a beautiful assist. I think that he was easily man of the match today.

After his two goals, he started running hard and physically challenging opponents. His issues are in his head.

Absolutely. It was striking how different he was in terms of his commitment pre and post scoring. Really challenging conundrum for ten Hag to try and navigate, because when Rashford is feeling it he's really useful.

Two games at home against the scousers and Arsenal and he’s got 3 goals and an assist.

You simply can’t argue against that
This.

However, he needs to win some fecking headers and hold up the ball when we are transitioning from defense to offense.

Is there an argument that Sancho should be dropped in future big games? If we are going to play on transitions I can't see anything better than:

Rashford Martial Antony
Think you definitely have a point there. Sancho is the more intricate of the 3 for sure, but probably lacks the explosiveness out of all our attacking options.

Rashford is much better in quick transitions, but Sancho has an edge when we build up a little slower.

His lack of pressing while being a striker vs a winger was odd, it felt like he was told not to press too much as a striker and save up his energy for his runs. The moment he moved to the left it seemed like he was given the okay to push more. It wasn't like he was getting told by the players to press harder too much, it was like they all knew he was told to wait

I can't yet trust him and I think in longer run we would be better with one striker that is more clinical. However, definitly surprised me and I'm happy with that. May it continue every game.

Marcus Rashford playing like he did today really is a blast from the past and that's still not his best. Today he just showed his great runs and decent finishing. Still waiting for him to unleash his long range wicked shot, 1on1 play and great vision and passing. Hopefully Ten Hag finds it.

As of now it all seems matter of keeping the player motivated and confident which seemed to be a big issue past two seasons.

His big-game record is ridiculous btw.

Great seeing him smile again after his goals rather than the nonsense with the corner flag when he scored against Liverpool.

Doing well so far.

I think he can benefit mentally from the new players coming in and the manager. Dressing room was in a slump with too many looking across at other players. He has a chance to resurrect his United career and England selection chances, I hope he can grasp it.

Yeah, it was interesting to see him to be too passive when played up top and finding the power and right time to press as a winger. Certainly has the aggression in him as he showed, so let's hope he can find it on regular basis. Wish he challenged more balls and stay on his toes rather than his heels when we are not in possession.

Why can't he win, or even just contest an actual header? He just jumps up nowhere near it.

He’s not a number 9. He’s playing there because needs must, but he’s not a back to goal player and never has been.

He's awful as a CF but my word he's one of the most dangerous players around when there's space in behind and he's coming off the wing.

Looks like we have our Marcus back. He probably misses both of those chances last year or the first couple of games.

Confusing performance today. When he was playing as the 9 he looked lethargic , didn't close down, gave the ball away ,looked pretty bad tbf. However still scores two goals and shows glimpses of a real player and it paper overs the cracks. There is a player in there , but tbh there were moments today I was questioning that.

Not really. He’s been shite for a significant period. I say significant, an actual long period…. A couple of goals against arsenal won’t change my mind. If he keeps this up than fair. His overall performance however could do with massive improvement.
And an assist, and a goal v Liverpool, assist v Leicester, but sure man, you double down.

Is that even a thing are have you just made that up? His performance thread says nothing of the sort so let's stop creating problems where they don't exist.
I have seen these posters in other players' threads. I am just proactive, they will come to here as well if the purple patch continues for a few games.

Just sit back and hold tight.

If you’re actually arguing against Marcus rashford massively under performing for a significant period than I’d seek help.
Three matches of productivity and you’re throwing out this kind of arrogance. Baffling.

He's insanely productive when he's firing from out wide.

We need Martial(or Ronaldo to be fully match-fit), so he can be used out wide.

But I've always been a fan of his despite how much he can frustrate.

For all the shit he's been given (including from myself), he's has scored or assisted 5 out of 7 of our non own goals scored this season. Still think he will find it difficult against deeper sides, but that's pretty good to be fair.

What more can you ask for from a forward. Clinical & involved in decisive. 9/10

long May it continue. Still a little concern about his impact in games where we have a lot of the ball. But for a counter attacking game he’s the perfect forward

He definitely under performed last season as did many of the squad.

The year before he got 20 goals and 12 assists from the left. That's not under performing whatsoever. If Antony or Sancho does that this season you will be singing their praises.

This game was tailored for him. Had space to attack, made a great assist and 2 perfectly taken goals. It was obvious after 1st goal he's full of confidence and eager to play.

It's weird to judge his performance and think he didn't really play all that well, but he was a part of 3 goals, so he must have.

It's some of those in between bits that confuse me, moments where he should maybe press 5 or 10 yards but just doesn't look arsed and is walking then Bruno or someone runs past him to press and it ends up creating an a gap and an easy out in behind them. Then he goes and chases the goalkeeper down 40 yards for no reason for a ball he's never going to get.

Got any quotes of that happening? Find it very hard to believe people are calling for him to get a new contract in other threads when his own thread is filled with people saying he played "average" kinda sounds like b.s tbh.

I didn’t say he was bad the season before last. You’d be hard pressed to find me saying a bad word about rashford before 2020. An entire season most definitely counts as a significant period though, which is what I meant. And he was absolutely terrible for a good year, throw in a lack of effort and a very transparent social media team and I’m afraid it’s just not acceptable for United. Apparently though, scoring three goals and assisting two now means all is fine, rashford is great. Anyone who questioned him is a moron. Regs has been sitting on the “I told you so’s” for this thread for presumably over 400 days. Around the last time Marcus Rashford had any consistency in performance and productivity.
Not a dig at you at all but it’s really fecking weird that after a result like that, one of the first things a United fan would think of doing is to point score over other United fans. Let alone over fully justified criticisms.

I will always stick up for Marcus because he's a red and has done well for us many many times.

Last season was terrible for him but bar that one season his numbers have actually been good.

His big game record for us is scarily good too. Just go see how many goals he's scored v Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. You might be shocked.

Started well all things considered, I believe he has five goal contributions in the last four. If he can get back the hunger, the intensity and the work rate in addition to the output he will be a useful player to have around.

Big game from him today. Seems like he was instructed on how to be a CF and it was quite clear. Offered himself for short passes to play off, decent hold-up on one or two occasion, and his running in behind is always a threat.

He’ll never be a natural at it, but good to see him try and bring something to the team.

I hope people are not falling for this again. The way forward is sancho, Antony and another striker.
We should have broken the bank for Haaland in 2020 man.

I know about his record but you must also know in order for us to get back to the levels we strive for he needs to do much much much more than he is currently doing and that we all expected him to have progressed a lot more than he has. Top players don’t put out the shit he put out for over a year. As an academy player he was given a lot more leeway too. I really really hope he doesn’t think “he’s back” and that he actually realises he can do much much more.
