He's been training with the first team a while now, he has a chance of being on the bench tonight.

I was hoping Garnacho & Iqbal get game time tonight but we'll see, we usually struggle vs Spanish teams in Europe.

Love seeing youngsters given a chance and it’s what United have always been about. This is why I’d have liked Garner to stay seeing as he was the closest thing we had in the entire squad to a deep lying playmaker.

The likes of Laird, Mengi, formerly Garner, Zidane, Mejbri, Shoretire and McNeil have all shown a lot of potential and I’d rather have them in the squad ahead of a lot of first teamera we’ve had over the past 12-18 months.

There seems to be at least one breakout “star” when a new manager takes over us. Let’s hope he gets some game time

Love that. I think we should take the Europa League with a grain of salt and use those matches to rotate and give youngsters a chance. Hopefully we get to see Iqbal and Garnacho play tonight.

No he wasn't, Eriksen is and Garner is a deep lying box to box but anyway McNeil has an incredible goal scoring record but I don't think he's ready to step up at all but I didn't think Rashford was at the time so be great if he proved me wrong

Is he the one that looks like a Garnacho clone. Also this reminds me how irritating it is that player pages don't have player height. Then when you google that shit it's in centimeters.

I did wonder what the boy wonder was up to. Anyone here watch the youth teams? Hows he been doing? Ready for a step up?

This lad might make it as a star. Probably the best goal scorer ive seen in our youth ranks...ever?

Has all the tools required to be a top top top striker. Lets hope he develops.

His record at the youth level seemed to be even more impressive than Greenwood.
It's very similar, but Greenwood did a good portion of his scoring record at an earlier age, making Greenwood's the more impressive. Look at their age 16 seasons.

This lad gives me Lewandowski vibes. Hope he gets a chance.

With our striking situation, he could be 1-2 injuries away from actually getting some meaningful minutes for the 1st team.

Throwing in random youngsters like Garnacho and McNeil did not help us getting a result. Ten Hag looked clueless from the moment he took off Eriksen

Difficult circumstances to get involved in, good for the lad getting a taste though.

I feel he was more interested in seeing the players getting minutes and managing the first 11. Once we get past the 11 it's pretty grim.

Yes but why now? We looked broken, they were never going to impress in this game. It felt like I throw them in and hope it sticks.

You'd have to ask EtH that one. I'd guess that he knew it was going to be a loss so why not give the kids some time. Long as he gets us out of that group this loss means nothing. It just shrinks their room for error with the other games.

Didn't Fergie do the same sometimes?

I m sure Garnacho and McNeill will feature again in the EL.

Great chance for an academy striker to break through, consider the senior options are all defective in one way or another.

Because young people learn from challenges, obstacles and failures as much if not more so than from easy opportunities.

I usually get tired of hearing how our youngsters need to bulk up and go out on loans for 20 years before being ready; but is he strong enough to hold his own in the PL?
He looks a bit on the physically weak side when I see him, but I'm hopefully wrong.

In a way these EL games do us a favor because it allows EtH to try to find some role players from the kids. Biggest role shortages are midfield depth and striker, so the opportunity should be there if one of them shows he can handle it.

Iqbal in particular I'd like to see out there. No idea where he is in his grasp of the positional rules and such, but if he can show some press resistance and some good decisions maybe he can help us out at some point.

The forwards too of course and in particular Garnacho I want to see. But what we need is a finisher. Someone who can be counted on when the chances are hard to come by in some of these tight games that are ahead.

I want to be wrong but I’m not sure about this player. He reminds me of Wilson and Will Keane at youth level. Greenwood in truth was a far superior prospect and he had his own struggles adapting to the first team. McNeill will make it in the game no doubt about it but I’m not sure it’ll ever be at PL level unless he works his way back up or does something surprising in the EL cameos.

You're bang on the money in my opinion. Those who don't watch the youth probably assume he is something special, much like the hype that someone like Chong received a few years back. Decent young player, but I'd be very surprised if he made it with us.

Yeah but for every hyped player there is a dark horse who emerges unexpectedly. Rashy was supposed to be behind Wilson and Keane yet there he is. McTominay is another one who emerged when no one thought he would. It's soo hard to predict how youth player's career will pan out. I for one was sure that Angel Gomes would go on to become our main playmaker.

Yeah, it's all a guessing game really. As well as talent, you need a lot of luck and to be in the right place at the right time. I was a big fan of Gomes too. He was above the likes of Garner and Chong and maybe equal to Laird in my hierarchy at the time. All behind Greenwood of course. I was excited by what he could become in a deeper role for us à la Thiago and De Jong. Strange to see such a highly technical player leave the club so soon. Maybe he can still find a way back to the very top clubs.

Seemed a strange game to be throwing on youngsters for their debuts. Throw them on when we’re 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go, not when we’re 1-0 down in an important tie.

No I don’t know them, why would or should I know them? I heard about Garnacho but I never saw him play, McNeil was a complete unknown.
I wouldn’t rely on 2 teenagers with zero experience at this level to try to turn around a game that was completely dead at that stage. For me it felt like he threw in the towel. In the grand scheme it probably doesn’t matter as I expect utd to finish second either way but for me Ten Hag had a bad game.
