It’ll probably be like Varane where he’ll be one of our best and most important players next season. For me the same thing applies though, I just don’t enjoy these short term mega wage signings. They rarely ever live up to the hype or expense and are only here because we are paying him more than Madrid were willing to. I don’t ever expect him to be a fancy player but I do expect him to become one of our fittest and hardest working players. He was nowhere close to that tonight obviously.

I was there tonight about 10 rows back in N1411 and Quesadilla made a little run and put a cross in right infront of me and he looked so slow and awkward, there seems to be nothing in him even over 10 yards. His arse might rival Shaw's for biggest in the squad. If Shaw looked that big and he often did he'd be getting stick for it.

He has not looked convincing. Right now it looks like Real Madrid, and Casemiro's bank account, got the better of the deal by far.
Madrid robbed us regardless of what Casmeiro does here. 70m for a 30 years old player is ultimate stupidity that only Man United can do. We spend a lot, but we spend a lot in an idiotic way that hurts the team in the long run and that's why we never get results worthy of such money spent. For that stupid amount of money we could have signed a longer term option.

Still, I think he has enough quality to benefit the team for one or two years. He's good. No doubt about it. There's no question his quality. He will never be good enough at this age for such stupid price tag though, and in 2-3 years we will end up with a 70m deadwood whom we will struggle to move on due to his salary.

I'll let you all off as you've only seen him play one full game for us at this point, but come back to me in a couple of months and you'll have realised my prediction was completely accurate. He's finished at this level and we are in big trouble if we plan on making him our first choice DM.
Can’t possibly tell you just how relieved I am right now. Was stirring in bed all night wondering if Replenish would let me off easy

This guy is finished, Madrid sold us a dud.
He was extremely important to us in the CL last season and was MotM in his last game for Madrid this season.
He doesn't suit the type of football Ten Hag wants to play
You assume United would force a player on EtH. There is no evidence of this. Infact it seems the opposite is true.

Unfortunately, my assessments of previous players were on a different forum where I'm well know for my accurate predictions and judgement of footballing ability. Otherwise I'd quote the evidence here.
I’m a bit of a player assesser myself … I especially enjoy observing young players trying to make a name for themselves … Do you have any opinions on Peter, Arribas or Latassa (all 3 from Real Madrid)?

there was a reason Real Madrid let him go
but there's a reason Madrid let him go.
What was his pre season with Madrid? Genuine question. Did he actually take part?
He was MotM in his last game for Madrid this year. He was an important contributor to our success last year. The overwhelming majority of Madridistas were pissed off that we sold him with no replacement, leaving our DM light once again.
The drop off in his performance levels as compared to Madrid are so big I think it's clear he's just not fully comfortable in the team yet. He spent the guts of the last 10 years at one club playing. He needs time here
THIS!
A DM needs time to understand his teammates’ runs so he can cover for them. He is still adjusting and United only have themselves to blame for buying him so late.
He seems extremely slow and erratic, his passing has been dross. Worried this might has been a huge mistake.
A great DM is one who is never noticed by the audience. Casemiro is a supporting actor, a helper, a platform for artists like Modric. His job has always been to keep things ticking over with short, safe passes in possession and to become the first line of tackling when we are out of possession. He just needs a little time to settle and assess his teammates’ playing style.

Andrei Kanchelskis made me fall in love with Unite
Anybody doubting Casemiro is mental. The guy is clearly lacking fitness and match rhythm. The tricky part is getting him up to speed while keeping the team performing - that's why they pay ETH the big bucks. He'll be more than fine in a few weeks I reckon. The guy is class.

It's unbelievable that posters are writing off Casemiro already - after we have Madrid fans posting here about how important he was to their team barely a few months ago.

You need to remember their names in a few months' time. It's just dumb. It's like they think they are being so clever for making such premature infantile comments. Embarassing. He's 30, not 40y.o

Can you imagine if their bosses judged them on their first hour at the job?

It’s the caf. If a player doesn’t immediately put in 10/10 performances, he’s a bust and should be binned.

No matter that he’s coming from a different league, isn’t match fit, and his first start coming with a team with an unfamiliar lineup with other players similarly short of match practice/fitness.

The dumbing down of the Caf.

I thought he wasn't nearly as bad as other people seem to think tonight. Pretty much everything we did decently in the first half involved him (Eriksen's cross to Cristiano for the offside goal for instance). 2nd half he faded, which is not shocking, though I don't totally understand why he wouldn't be fit. He got ready for the Madrid season, was apparently the man of the match in the Super Cup and has had a few weeks. They say you can't simulate match fitness, but that seems absurd?

Obviously paying 60M for a 30 year old DM after Madrid bought a great 22 year old is amazing. You can do this once when you spend like us and there's a new manager with a gaping hole in the squad, but we really shouldn't do it ever again. The RB, GK, #8 and #9 we need we have to be brave on and buy younger, less accomplished players with their best years ahead of them.

Why Scott McTominay deserves his place in United’s starting XI ahead of Casemiro

The reasons McTominay plays ahead of Casemiro are linked to a word — “automatisms” — that Ten Hag used before United’s victory over Leicester City last week.
A term commonly used by managers with experience in German football (Ten Hag is a former Bayern Munich reserve-team coach), “automatisms” refer to open-play patterns that are repeatedly practised in training until they become automatic, akin to muscle memory.

There are defensive automatisms (often regarding team pressing) and attacking ones (often concerned with spacing and combination play when attacking the penalty area). Most important is how they are practised as a collective, with Player A often performing an action that leads to Player B performing the next action in the sequence.

“You want to get into routines. The XI did well so we keep going,” said Ten Hag. The longer a player trains and plays under Ten Hag, the more time they have to get accustomed to his automatisms.
McTominay has greater knowledge of the automatisms required in Ten Hag’s side than Casemiro.

some fans’ opinions about a player change from one performance to the other. It’s his first start and he is clearly lacking match fitness. He’ll get up to speed for sure. I’d like to see him
getting introduced to the team playing in the premier league, probably instead of mctominay. ETH seems to be doing this gradually

I like Peter but sadly he has no opportunities, at least he could play against teams from the bottom. Before Asensio who is leaving next year.

If he's had a pre season with Madrid then, plus training with us and some minutes, it's very strange to look so out of shape.

I'm not writing him off. It's just odd he looks that immobile.

That was a shocking performance really. Not surprised because he's been very poor in his first few weeks here.

Meh performance, off the pace, we might see some moments of quality in a defensive positioning (Fred's horrible back pass, Case was alert and was in position inside the box), also some nice passes through the lines and all that, we also saw misplaced passes, easily dribbled past/ran past, overall he really wasn't anywhere near a "Best DM" level, hopefully it is just the time he needs to gel with the team, for now, McTominay starts ahead of him, sadly.

Wasn't half as bad as some make it out to be. Wasn't brilliant and he looked slow at times but off the ball his aggression was good.

Reckon we should give a long rope to signings from abroad who have come in very late into the window and had little to no pre season with the rest of the team.

In this instance it includes Casemiero and Anthony. They will have very little rhythm and play time behind them and the very best of them will only be visible next year. But they will improve week on week, as the chemistry with the squad builds up

He’s actually really solid defensively. Apart from Martinez our most solid player I thought in the tackles when he came on.

Casemiro did absolutely fine. Probably had our best shot of the game too since nobody else was shooting.

Is he not used to people closing him down that quickly? Just looks like the pace of the game is too fast for him. Probably because when there's Modric and Kroos in the team, you tend to have a fraction more time and space with the ball, I don't know, I'm speculating.
Defensively he looked okay, shielded he defense well.

He was literally playing against a fairly average la liga team! I don't think that should present a new challenge to him....

That's not what I said, I was talking about him not having Kroos and Modric around him and as a result being closed down a lot quicker. Our players do get exposed in possession anyway, on top of it if I was the opposition, I'd be thinking, "what are you going to do if I close you down, pass it to Fred?"

Anyone doubting Casemiro must have been doubting Varane last season as well. Anyone will look bad playing with Maguire and last night`s version of Fred
Quality in players like him always shows eventually even if it takes a little more time than expected

Looked a little off the pace but Sociedad were bang at it and even with his rustiness he was still quite good.

I hope we get to see him in a match from the start with the best players around him. He shielded the defence well but he had a woeful cb pair behind him at the beginning and fred as the link up between mid and attack.
Look at McTominay now compared to last season. Having Eriksen beside him and Varane and Martinez behind means the world.

Just looks a bit rusty and off the pace to me.

Will revisit in a few weeks and see where we are at.

That said it’s the Caf so we should all be going crazy and demanding Ten Hags head I imagine.
